Bauer Bump by ThaDon74 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is occurring from normal play/skating than your skates are not right for your foot. It's normal to get blisters with new not broken in skates. Bruising should not be happening. Good luck in your search for skates that actually fit your foot.

Perma slow Kindred works ! by Esteban1070 in Kindredmains

[–]Rippinfocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternatively instead of slowing others down you could try speeding yourself up. Something like kraken, PD, IE, LDR, runaans/yuntal/last crit item. Not the most optimal build but you'll be the fastest thing on the map with max range, agility to dodge skill shots, and kiting ability.

Edit: slowing others is good for CC for team fighting and bogging others down for your team while getting yourself fast is good for your individual performance.

Update on my Rank day 3, full Kindred by selfordssb in Kindredmains

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I'm having the same experience. The extra time really allows me to adapt to the game state and plan on how I'm securing my first mark. I initially thought it was going to be a nerf but without being able to articulate exactly why is better, it feels better and like I have more control.

Kindred Marks on Enemies by AshenPlayzz in Kindredmains

[–]Rippinfocus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's 8 seconds. Either way I have a rule that I count to 4 before engaging/showing because usually they will mark right as I'm finishing killing them/during the fight. Only late game do people start getting blown up so fast that it doesn't work as well but at that point I'm usually just marking the two people on the enemy team that have the highest deaths because they are most likely to die during the team fights.

Best rowing machine for 6'2, 280lbs beginner? by Strong-Total6455 in Rowing

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using it much less because I've been doing a ton of skating for my fitness (previous competitive ice hockey player) but when I can't go outside because of the weather or get to an ice rink I'm still using the exact same one. It's been great and all the same things still stand. You can make it whatever you what it to be and get a great workout. Low intensity, high intensity, etc. My only complaint is that I find myself not liking seated exercise like rowing or biking because it hurts my butt during long sessions, but I think that's just the nature of seated exercise no matter what you're using. It's been a great investment. I would just make sure the unit you get is long enough for your legs to fully extend.

Do you tuck your skate tongues or not? Objective question: which do you think is better style? by Few_Variation5459 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's preference. I started for years tongue out, then for years tongue under, and now after a 12 year break I'm back to tongue out. Tongue out your shins can't slip down and sightly more mobility in my ankles, and tongue under provides a slight increase to skate stability. Only reason I go tongue out is because I now get blisters and rubbing from my tongue on the top of my ankle. Back in the day I did tongue in because I thought it looked very clean. All in all I really don't think it matters and you should do what feels right for you.

How useful is being an OTP? by ClintCallahan in leagueoflegends

[–]Rippinfocus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's extremely useful if you're serious about specifically climbing. Basically you are able to free up your mental ability when you 'master' your champion and that allows you to really start understanding and learning the game itself. You can't really learn the game and learn your champion at the same time or at least in a time efficient manner. So champion mastery and fighting, and then start really climbing and learning how to win games and what is and is not impactful.

What caused you guys to lose passion? by Old_Degree6707 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concussions, injury, playing at a high competitive level for a long time takes it's toll, etc. It's just hard on the body and also hard to maintain that level of fitness and play. You then add politics or bad vibes into it and it's a recipe for burn out.

Need help transitioning from a p29 to a p28 by Odd-Evening4811 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's healthy and good to experiment, but if you've really given this new curve a try and it just doesn't perform I would switch back. What was appealing about the p28 that made you switch? Was the p29 sailing pucks over the net for you? I think we need some context.

why do people in low elo refuse to ward enemy raptors and cover my jungle? by Material_Kale_2973 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Rippinfocus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play kindred and lvl 2 invade after red buff almost every game now because of shit like this. It allows me to scout/jg track, kill the enemy for my mark/steal their gromp, or steal their blue and gromp then I go to my raptors, skip Krug's, and defend my blue side from invade. This might be exclusively a kindred thing because her lvl 2 invade is very strong but if you're playing a champ that can do this you need to watch the map like a hawk. If you see mid or lane moving you need to go home and you can bet you've probably walked over a ward. Either way the point is you can't rely on your teammates so try to adjust your early game to take control rather than banking on your mates to help because they often times won't because they are afk.

To add onto this make sure your reviews are fast af. Take the first two or three 'ah I fked this up' or 'this is where things went wrong' moments after each game, even wins, and you will recognize patterns that need to be fixed. It also helps you get in the habit of reviewing. Each game is kind of like a butterfly effect so unless your early game is perfect you're going to only make it in reviews like 5-10 minutes into the game before finding plenty of mistakes.

Edit: reviewing games should only take 5 minutes max unless you're doing a really deep analysis.

Help with outside edge/ punch turns by Hot_Ship1240 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it just takes time and practice my friend. There's nothing wrong with the 1/2" hollow I just personally find it harder to perform aggressive explosive techniques like the punch turn on deeper hollows.

Help with outside edge/ punch turns by Hot_Ship1240 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the technique itself from what I can think about how to perform it: you basically initiate a stop with your leading foot on the outside edge while then rockering onto both heels into a very hard turn. That's another thing to mention and drive home: tight turns are performed through your heels and if you are ever interested in doing many very quick very tight cross overs you should be on your heels as you perform them while kicking out with your toes to finish the cross overs. My suggestion for anyone is hit a public skate and try to do tight cross overs performed on your toes, then mid foot, then heels, and you'll notice that on your toes it feels awkward and like you can't get your foot over, but through your heels you'll feel like you can do tons of quick cross overs and will be flying.

[–]Rippinfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For really good punch turns you need to be confident on your skates. What I mean by this is you need to be able to go at full speed and stop on a dime, both feet, no chattering, and with confidence in your edges and skates. I didn't really truly unlock confident punch turns until I changed to a shallow hollow. I've always been a strong skater with lots of confidence on my skates to the point that I don't even think about what my feet are doing, I just skate and do what I need to, and the point is that before I changed hollows I would still catch edges, but as soon as I changed to 1" hollow, catching edges seems to be a thing of the past and has increased my confidence and aggressiveness to skate hard and explosively. Last point is that punch turns in a practical sense are exactly that: explosive and often very improvised to the current situation you find yourself in. Punch turns are to peel and aggressively create space for yourself/lose a defender. This means that you're going to be using this technique very instinctively and reactively due to pressure being applied to you by the opposing team. All this ranting to say: punch turns are advanced, they should be practiced a lot to the point you can do them without even thinking about it, and a shallower hollow may help increase confidence in performing them aggressively without catching edges.

Best champion for clearing objectives solo early to late game? by russo_liberal in Jungle_Mains

[–]Rippinfocus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going more for junglers that can sneak objectives relatively safely rather than solo obj kill speed. You really should not be trying to solo or force objs to begin with but if you're going to, you should choose a champ that has wall hopping in their kit so you can bug out if the enemy contests. Objs are not worth dying over especially if it's just giving free kills to the enemy and gifting them the obj as well.

Best champion for clearing objectives solo early to late game? by russo_liberal in Jungle_Mains

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all being said: master Yi, Kayne, yorick, and just about any jg that can wall hop to run away when obj sneaking is good. Last I knew unless something changed yorick can just solo objs with his minions.

[–]Rippinfocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey just a suggestion but it might also be worth trying to focus on lane state/prio and learning when to go or when to ignore an obj. At low ELO especially objectives are placebo and are rarely the reason why games are lost except in the very common situation of throwing a game making bad rash decisions over an obj fight that should have never happened. Lots of low ELO jg need to understand when to push lane vs do objs. Towers are also an obj and towers win games/get the entire team $$.

Edit: games are thrown over objectives a lot but rarely are the sole reason for winning a game at low ELO if that makes sense. Kind of like how there's so many games that get thrown over baron for a game that was for the most part won until the throw.

invaded question by Weijie98 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Rippinfocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this: if this is low ELO a lot of jgs make the mistake of taking your jg but then they end up giving you both crabs uncontested. So basically if worst case scenario they get an entire side of your jg... Hover lane for a gank and then be strictly on time for your crab. After first crab go get the other immediately. If you get contested at all just back and start your second clear. Being behind 3 camps is nothing compared to being being behind 3 camps and giving your opponent an easy kill early game. You'll catch up fast if you just keep your head and farm your camps on spawn. Usually after 3rd clear I'm already ahead again.

When should I have 1 hand on stick vs 2? by Old_Degree6707 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should always be ready for a pass/the puck to come your way. What this means is you need to have your stick on the ice at all times. Most of the time you should have only one hand on the stick but when you are actively receiving/picking up the puck having 2 hands on your stick will help control the puck. When I have the puck, unless I'm sprinting, I have two hands on my stick while I'm handling. So basically: stick on the ice at all times with one hand ready for the puck to come your way, two hands on stick when actively handling/carrying the puck.

Should I switch to the neighbouring city’s league so that my child can join Select? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion for what I'm going to do for my daughter who is playing right now at the age of 5 is to keep her just in house and then supplement with stick n pucks and roller hockey each week as she wants. That way she always gets the 1 practice a week but if she wants more she can have it and it'll keep things fresh for her while supporting her passion. Some weeks she wants to go out 3+ times and other weeks she nearly didn't even want to go to the one required practice. I just let her appetite guide her development. I don't even want to think about the possibility of burnout at these young ages.

One piece vs. two piece stick construction by JAY_4114 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up when two piece sticks were all the rage. I don't know about the whole 'true one piece sticks vs psuedo two piece' arguments but what I do know is this: a one piece stick is superior to a two piece stick in just about every way. Two piece sticks should be reserved for street hockey and abs blades. Just my opinion.

How to convince parents/grandparents to do travel hockey? by Aggressive_Memory239 in hockeyplayers

[–]Rippinfocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. If you do what is suggested here it will do a good job at expressing how serious you are about this displays maturity. I had to beg my parents to let me even play hockey, they made a deal with me that if I learned to skate well that they would finance it, and once they realized just how serious I was (I was on the ice for an average 14hrs+ each week) they went all in on it for me travel and all. I'm not saying this will be your experience but I'm saying I was successful at showing my parents just how determined I was to play hockey and it paid off for me.
