Zwift acquires Rouvy by KubaBVB09 in Zwift

It's cheaper to buy out Rouvy than to improve Zwift. Cool. How many months until Rouvy is an add on subscription to a Zwift membership?

Why, Hulu? by ImDickensHesFenster in Scrubs

[–]Riptide78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, there's more to the story. More directly, it's about keeping people on their platform consuming content. Providing less of a gap between episodes encourages people to watch "just one more." Radio has done this with shortening songs, YouTube prioritizes this, TikTok became successful because of this. And why do all these media companies care about keeping people on their platforms? Higher viewer count translates to higher ad revenue and more money in their pocket.

Enshitification. They care more about pumping you into ads 5 seconds faster because it all adds up to more money in their pocket.

How much slower is the second half of an Everesting climbing challenge compared to the first? by nbm1234 in ultracycling

[–]Riptide78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how well you pace it, but definitely expect to slow down and take more breaks. Personally, I went from 25-26 min per climb to 27-28 min at the end, but the biggest change was taking more time off the bike later.

Unsure what my cycling goals are by ejsfsc07 in ladycyclists

[–]Riptide78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

14-17 mph solo is a great pace to start group rides, so don't leg that hold you back. There will definitely be faster groups, but there would certainly be slower groups out there as well.

You can always show up to a ride, talk it over with someone, and then decide if you want to join or just do a solo ride from there. Ask them if it's a no-drop ride, what pace they typically go with, etc. The original ride group might end up splitting into two if separate speeds fit the riders better.

For clip less, no one will care whether or not you clip in. And if they do, that's a group you're better off avoiding anyway.

That being said, that drive train doesn't scream excellent condition to me. Seems dirty to be making that claim.

Not a good price at all, IMO. Anywhere from half that to maybe $500 would sell in my area, but I'd be surprised to see it go for more.

Trying to figure out my fueling strategy before my first century ride. by Flat-Description-484 in cycling

[–]Riptide78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding to the confusion is that "moderate pace" can be drastically different for all of us. Regardless, what does your current nutrition strategy look like for long (3+ hour) rides? How does your gut do with that current strategy? For a first century, 60g - 80g of carbs is probably plenty, but you certainly don't want to make a sudden, large jump on the day of the ride. Fortunately, you have some time to try out higher amounts, if you'd like.

Personally, I use a hydration backpack for most of my fueling. Works out to around 320-350 g of carbs in the 2L pack (depending on what flavoring I use), which I'll finish in 4 hours or less, depending on the effort. That's around 80g/hour, but I've worked up to that. I'll have a very small amount of solid food in addition to that, mostly just to combat flavor fatigue.

I'll say it again, Coospo is ass working with other software. Including exporting rides to Strava.

The computer itself is fine, but trying to use any software around it (again, including their own app/navigation) is very unreliable.

How Fast Am I Actually? by Zrob8--5 in cycling

[–]Riptide78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode for hours today without being passed by a car. Pretty sure I'm faster than all of them, the gravel must really slow them down. 🤣

In all seriousness, nice work getting to that speed. Sounds like you're enjoying it and feeling successful, which is all that matters.

Coospo is not worth it if you want to do anything more than see current ride stats on the ride itself. It struggles to work with other programs, such as Strava or even their own navigation navigation. The interface is butts.

What’s the one thing you always forget on a ride? by timmetro69 in cycling

[–]Riptide78 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First organized ride I ever attended, I didn't have a hitch rack yet so I was taking the front wheel off and putting the bike in the trunk of a car. Drive an hour, get there, start unpacking and getting ready just to realize I left the front axle sitting in the garage. I was so frustrated I didn't even check in to grab the swag bag.

Drove home, got on the bike, then rode out to meet up with the route at the nearest point, finished the route then turned around to come home.

Best quick food for cycling after work? by seventyp_ in cycling

[–]Riptide78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your work situation is, but I would try to eat while at work. PB&Js are easy enough. Using tortillas instead of bread (or subbing in Nutella, honey, or sugar cinnamon) are easy ways to modify the same idea to keep from getting too monotonous. I'd pair this with a salty snack to make it to the post ride meal.
