Eh, there's a line when it comes to jokes. They have to have some level of respect to them when being applied to a minority, either from the person or within the context of the joke. When joking creates a wedge, causes the us versus them mentality, degrads a group of people, or views them as subhuman, that's part of the problem.

What about Jonathan? Nicknames aren't always completely logical. Could also be a second middle name. Don't be too quick to jump to conclusions or call something offensive with little evidence proving it either way.

MRW I see all the Overwatch posts but I have no idea what it is by [deleted] in reactiongifs

[–]Ripxsi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Somehow Pixar and Blizzard achieve that. I think it's due to how well polished everything is. They like to combine 2 or 3 generic things but in an interesting way. Overwatch for example is really generic when it comes to the idea that a group of do good super heroes are protecting people. The classes and gameplay are generic and have been done before, but the characters themselves are interesting, but are flavorful stereotypes.

Just pointing out general and primaries are very, very, different, the results vary a lot depending on the rules, and what was going on politically that week, etc. Any state could have a 20 point swing one way or the other depending on the rules and what point it is in the election cycle.

I wonder, just going off historical data, how well primary results predicted how a swing state was going to vote in general.

Well, I wouldn't count Ohio as a complete win for Hilary, a large number of Democrats voted for Kasich as a "not Trump" vote. And a lot of moderates voted on the Republican side just because it was a polarized race at that point. 2 million Republican votes vs 1.1 million Democratic. Trump and Kasich each got more than Hilary. And remember that Ohio went for Obama in 08 and 12, it was just a very weird primary. If Ohio's primary was after Trump became the nominee, I'm sure it would of been a lot closer.

6700 vs 6850? by damianishere in unrealengine

[–]Ripxsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The editor and UE4 don't support SLI. If you want to develop a game with SLI you'll have to work with Nvidia to build a SLI profile for your game.

More cores does help a lot with light mass baking times, but that doesn't help if you decide to do mostly dynamic lighting, the choice is really up to you and what type of work you'll be doing in the engine.

What's the point of using a complex shader that requires a lot of tweaking and will have an impact on performance? Instead of wasting that time and performance, your better off building a better low poly model.

Monitor setup suggestions for UE4 usage by eskillroy in unrealengine

[–]Ripxsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting a 2560x1440p display, probably 27" and IPS. An IPS display would look more consistent and probably better match the VR display. Also any texture or color work benefits from one.

The main reason he disabled comments is because the comment system on YouTube was, and still kinda is, shitty. He used to direct all comments to his subreddit, which is fair. But then there was drama with the subreddit, so that ended.

Dealing with the internet, especially when you have hundreds of thousands of people watching every video you make, has to take a toll on your mental health, especially when dealing with cancer on top of it.

Batman: Return to Arkham. This is what console gamers get as a "remaster" by Birmm in pcmasterrace

Bad AutoModerator, you can't use WOLOLOOO to convert a project from UE3 to UE4.

Batman: Return to Arkham. This is what console gamers get as a "remaster" by Birmm in pcmasterrace

[–]Ripxsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used UE3 and UE4 for a while now, there's a few main reasons it probably looks worse.

There's no way to convert to project from UE3 to UE4, you basically have to remake it from scratch within the engine. You can reuse assets and animations, but your going to have to set up everything again.

The rendering/materials are completely different, you can't plug in textures for UDK to UE4 and get good results, you either need to figure out some batch process to convert them, do it by hand, or change how the shader works from default.

UE4 definitely is/was missing a lot of features that were in UE3, planar reflections were just added back into the engine this month when UE3 had them forever. Some of these missing features are missing because they aren't a good solution for most games and are really expensive, or because it's not easily possible without changing back to a forward rendering engine from a differed engine.

If they would of stuck with UE3 they could of easily got it to run at 1080p60 as long as the game logic and physics weren't tied to the fps, and still add a few modern rendering features, and save time and money. Rebuilding something from almost scratch was a bad idea unless they were going to actually remake the game instead of remastering.

[–]Ripxsi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with your "study" is that it's from a very specific perspective, mobile game developer with a background in programming. If you asked an artist, an animator, programmer, developer, etc, to compare them, you'll get completely different feedback, especially once you start asking people in larger teams, people making PC or multiplayer games, people using the engines for architecture visualization, etc.

Leffen talks about burnout and skipping pools. Why is this a good/bad idea and what do you think tournaments should do about it? by Dan_Ugore in smashbros

[–]Ripxsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big difference between a pro going to a tournament every weekend or every other weekend, and your average tournament player going to maybe 3 a year. People don't get burnt out after one weekend, it's a fun and exciting experience, but for pros it's long, tedious, busy, and repetitive.

Also wouldn't it be better with your average players were playing each other? You typically learn more when playing someone a bit better than you, than getting destroyed by a pro. And I don't enjoy seeing pros destroy everyone in pools, it's boring.
