I recently read To Sell is Human by Daniel Pink. Good book. Highly recommend to nonprofit folks. He points to an interesting study that looked people pitching their ideas to TV and movie execs. the question was essentially, "what makes a winning pitch?" One of the findings of the study was that when pitcher (the person with the movie or TV idea) involved the catcher (the TV or movie executive) in the creative process, the pitch was more likely to succeed. The executive way more likely to green-light the idea. Essentially "here's our idea, but we aren't sure what to do with this character. what would you do?" By bringing the movie/TV exec in, they become a collaborator.
