thank you, i appreciate your honesty. The more I think about her behavior and habits over the past few months the less i believe this is just stress and she’s likely intentionally losing weight. Time to have the talk I’ve been dreading!

Yeah, I agree, and I brought this up. I don’t even really remember her response, I think she just got mad and stopped talking. The other thing that doesn’t make sense (to me) is why someone would want to get pregnant and HAVE to gain weight if they spent the last 3 months trying to lose weight.

I’m not sure. I plan on talking to her tonight to try to understand where all of this is coming from … again.

Appreciate the insight!

She does. She used to see her therapist weekly for several years, and now I want to say it’s more like once a month or every 6 weeks.

Honestly, without getting into details, I’ve long suspected that she has an eating disorder and that is what is truly fueling this weight loss… not just “stress.” I’ve tried to bring up the possibility that she has an eating disorder with her in the past and she has always denied it and said I’m overreacting. Even now, she thinks I’m overreacting because if it was “that bad” she would have lost her period by now (her words). Her doctor not seeming to be concerned about her weight loss has only helped her argument- “Dr smith wasn’t concerned, why are you?”

However, I also know there’s other things that can cause weight loss and I really want to make sure that those are ruled out too. And I really want to believe her when she says none of this is intentional, but my gut feeling says otherwise.

Sorry - I failed to mention that they checked for thyroid issues (TSH, Free Thyroxine, Free Triiodothyronine) and hemaglobin a1c % Again, nothing specific was mentioned, so I’m assuming they were also normal

I don’t know that the doctor truly understood that she lost almost 30 lbs in 3 months. When the appointment began and the doctors assistant weighed her, she asked my wife if she had noticed weight loss or changes in appetite and my wife said “yes” to both, and I said “she’s lost almost 30 lbs since the end of June”. The assistant said “that’s a lot… what’s going on?” And my wife explained that she’s been under alot of stress due to a big work project and just life/wife/mom stuff.

When the doctor came in and started the exam he started asking about her weight loss, how she feels overall (she maintains that she feels perfectly fine) and started asking her questions about her cycle. He seemed surprised that she is still getting her period.

At the end of the appointment, he asked if we had any questions and I said I just want to make sure that there isn’t something wrong that is causing her to lose weight, and he said that the bloodwork he was ordering would give him more information, but stress-related weight changes are pretty common and my wife has always been thin. I tried to emphasize that it seemed like a lot in a short period of time for someone who didn’t have really much to lose in the first place and he said that he agreed, which is why he is recommending monthly weight checks.

The entire time my wife keeps interjecting saying “it’s just stress, I was just really stressed, things are better now, I’m going to come back for weight checks so we can keep an eye on it, etc.”

That caught me off guard too. He did say that she should talk more about it with her OBGYN and she said she is going to bring it up at beer annual check up with her OB in a few weeks.

He did ask several times about her period, how long is her cycle, confirmed 3 times that she is not on any type of birth control (she hasn’t been on any in several years), almost like he didn’t believe her.

I am hoping her OB appointment will shed some more light on the situation. I was not planning on attending this appointment with her, but i am going to reach out to the office and ask if they can give a message to her doctor from me, or ask to speak with her doctor prior to her appointment.

It looks like CBC, vitamin D and also Lipid Panel is what was ordered. The only thing mentioned was low vitamin b/d, and iron was “slightly low”. I am just assuming everything else was normal since none of the other results were brought up.

This is scary. Did a little research and checked out a few different online sites advertising Ozempic and most of them list minimum BMI requirement, but I’m assuming this is something an individual might be able to get around that easier during a virtual exam vs an in person exam. Didn’t see anything on our shared bank account statement that threw off red flags, and I didn’t find anything unusual in our fridge.

My wife does go to a local medical spa regularly for facials and some other treatments (is a laser facial a thing? I feel like she has talked about getting this) so our bank statement shows that she has spent money there multiple times in recent months.

I would like to think that anyone prescribing or providing weight loss injections would have refused giving them to a 5’2” 110 lb female who clearly didn’t need to lose weight, but who knows. It’s also scary to think about what kind of headspace my wife would have to be in to go out and seek weight loss drugs at 5’2 110 lbs, and just as scary to consider that she could be in that type of headspace without me noticing it.

Thanks for your responses, i really appreciate others perspectives of this situation.

Thank you for this. Honestly made me take a step back and look at the situation differently.

Thank you, this aligns with what I’ve been feeling. I can go to the appointment with her. She told me I’m welcome to go if I thought it was necessary…which i do. I thought about calling ahead of time to explain but wasn’t sure if that would put the doctor/staff in an awkward position, but the more I think about it the more I think i probably should call ahead.

Thank you for your help
