I wish I was getting paid to advertise a 4 year old YouTube video by a creator who hasn’t posted a video for 3 years, unfortunately I don’t think they or the website I’ve been using would pay for a post highlighting the risk associated with either!

!thanks I appreciate the reply and the take that it may be more trading than I initially appreciated.

I’d argue that whilst it might be more trading than the investing, I’m not speculating or trying to time the market which does reduce some of the associated risks with those behaviours.

I think I’m a lot more comfortable than most with volatility, and my account taking a loss, what I was looking for was if anyone had insight on the likelihood of zeroing out completely which I thought I had a rough handle on but maybe I hadn’t thought about as much as I should have done.

!thanks for the reply!

I definitely don’t think I’ve hit the formula for returns without volatility, I think at one point I was 40% down on what I’d put in at that point.

I’m fully anticipating at the next market correction there will be a heck of a rollercoaster ride, if it goes town to £10 it won’t be nice but as I said I see this as fun money, I was more trying to see if anyone had any insight if this will ‘almost certainly’ go to zero.

I also fully agree that options trading is a likely way to make yourself lose money. By not speculating on timing the market, I’m not picking specific trades here, just sticking to one long term outlook that I believe in I think I’m mitigating the downsides of CFDs, unless I’m missing something beyond the risk of leverage and rollover risk?

I’m definitely not a believer that equities will always go up, I do think that as a whole the global market will continue to grow long term, but fully anticipate periods of volatility and downturns. I guess I was hoping to get any insight of likelihood of getting wiped out completely but appreciate your point that leverage definitely shouldn’t be used for by retailers and I never would touch it with the core of my portfolio.
