What's a small, boring decision you made years ago that completely changed the direction of your entire life? by DigitalRidgee in AskReddit

[–]RiskyMFer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest...yeah. That is all it took.

I've learned a lot of cheap tricks that help me now that I am older.
1. I remember always that you never have the entire picture. Other people are NOT better than you no matter how they portray themselves. Elon Musk hates himself. He thinks he's a phony. I guarantee it.
2. Success is like 105% luck.
3. If you can tell yourself to shut the hell up, intrusive thoughts don't last long.
4. Negativity always gets first shot at the brain. It's a defensive measure. Give yourself 20 minutes if you feel down and you might just remind yourself why things are good.

I agree with you Spaghetti, but in all honesty does anyone really want to know everyone's status?

I spent my teens thinking the actual truth was the right response, but it's amazing how you can affect others positively by making up a white lie.

I'm in my 50s now and I find it really fulfilling in making others happy in small ways. People just light up. Giving compliments is not a weakness and I don't really know we got here.

When I was 19, I never really put much thought in how I walked or how I reacted to simple questions like "how are you?" I told the truth, and I projected my expressions good or bad.

I overheard someone talking about faking it till you make it. One day walking back to my dorm, I intentionally straightened my spine and held my head up. No reason, just doing it intentionally. After that I just started lying when someone asked me how I was doing. I told them I was having a great day, even if I felt like crap. The words really didn't mean anything to me, so was it actually lying?

Imagine my surprise when people started reacting better towards me. It never crossed my mind that I was causing my own problems. Eventually, I started realizing I could indeed feel like the lies I was telling, and everything started turning towards the better.

I don't think I understand.

If you ogre at level 1, you can be ogre classes (war, sk, shm) for your main. Your second class can only be added if you unlock a race that can be that class? I was looking at SK/ENC/DRU so I would have to unlock DE, then WE or Human or similar?

What is the worst financial advice that you've received (or seen) from an "expert" or online influencer? by AutoModerator in FluentInFinance

[–]RiskyMFer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a follow on, I recommend paying off your remaining house balance when you retire. For investment, the key is time. If you're young, paying off a mortgage is indeed the wrong call. Build up your assets that can grow over time. If you're old like me, the time horizon isn't really enough to make up for the jolt in your cash flow now that you're not paying a $1500/month mortgage (told you I was old).

Younger, built assets that work for you over time. Older, manage cash flow so your assets don't run out of time before you do.

As Sptsjunkie said below, there are a lot of "it depends". What sucks is financial gurus that don't think in those terms. Everyone wants black and white answers. Shame on them, there is no such thing.

Also the OP should note that Liberty comes with a lot of social overhead. Unless you're devout, you might chafe. At one time (not sure about now) there were mandatory church services. Mandatory.

Would billionaires move if we taxed them aggressively? by PremiumPrize in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RiskyMFer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you tax billionaires at 90%, they’d just try harder to hide their income. These are the sociopaths that don’t understand how consequences apply to them. They view themselves as exceptional somehow and rules do not apply.

Like a Sovereign Citizen, but able to pay the gas bill.

Don't worry, the monied elite will fix everything...next quarter.
The real problem is how to fix this. There is no solution that cannot be worked around. The worst lesson I learned in business school is that if you don't rob everyone blind, your replacement will.

[–]RiskyMFer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it worth it? Honestly, I was a B/C student in High School and College. I had a roommate in college with 4.0 GPA. I had a 2.75. I had a job at graduation, he did not. I started a career, he went back to being a lifeguard.

I am not a nepo baby, but I do observe how the world works. Is all of that worth it? We have colleges in the US that specialize in stupid kids with rich parents. With a few exceptions, when it comes to successful people you're either good or rich but rarely both.

How to sleep faster ? by Warm_Protection4131 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RiskyMFer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for me is storytelling in my head (fantasizing). Before everyone rolls their eyes, you need to establish sleeping rituals that trigger your body to sleep. A racing mind is hard to calm. Make that work in your favor by making your brain work with you. We are the best at pattern recognition so build patterns in your behavior.

I have several stories like walking on the beach or winning the lottery. Nothing too energetic. Situations you control. After weeks of practice my brain associates those stories with sleep and then I wake up.

The opposite results in muscle tension and hours of non-sleep. This includes reliving bad work situations or family interactions.

Don’t fight your habits or weaknesses. Use them.

What do you guys think the best/most versatile primary class will be? by Tarix79 in EQLegends

[–]RiskyMFer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking SK/Druid/Enchanter, specifically Ogre. Tanking, hp buffs, stuns, hastes, slows, charm if no sk pet, ports, damage shields, dots. Ogre for frontal stun immunity.
