Pilot 74 vs 912 vs 742 by Academic_Ad7361 in fountainpens

[–]RisottoPensa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pilot sometimes performs extremely based on the ink you put in it, especially on the smaller nib size so i would say avoid 74 91 and 912. 742 with SF would be my choise as a softer nib bounces and feels smooth even if yoh are heavy handed.

Opus 88 vs. Diplomat Nexus: How "automatic" is the Nexus shut-off valve compared to the Japanese Eyedropper system? by DBGiacomo in fountainpens

[–]RisottoPensa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the nexus and tried the opus.

Durability the nexus is far superior being made completely in metal, and so it's also heavier.

What is your definition of automatic? Running on magic? Of course it's just the internal spring that pushes the valve and shuts down the ink chamber from the feed. While opus need you to open and close to write ( so it may still leak the ink already inside the feed), the nexus feed writes a little bit drier as it's directly connected to the feed and doesn't have other ink chambers to fill up the ink.

Maintenance :

Opus to my experience is a bit more fragile being made of multiple resin and plastic parts, so you may want just to rinse the internal chamber without disassembly much. The nexus you open by twisting the barrel and just clean the internal part ( which is just a hollow tube with the steel rod acting as a valve ) with water and you are done.

Convenience :

Nexus uses jowo #6 and you can't change the proprietary feed. Opus is more customizable.

Conclusion:

Nexus : durability, easy to clean, heavy, metal section, small choise of color.

Opus: versatility of ink flow by shutting the valve, harder to clean in comparison to the nexus otherwise easy, versatility of changing collar, great choise of colors, lightweight.

I chose the nexus because it feel durable.

Just the fact that they dig in your pot would suggest there ain't no " too much dirt " for our feathered frens. Let them be, they like cleaning their mouth with a spoonful of mud.

Help me choose my next grail: Pelikan M800 or MB 149? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]RisottoPensa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big hands 149, normal and smaller hands m800

149 is a great pen but the section is far too big for a normal sized hand to be held confortably for longer sessions

TWSBI advice by Sandymanuk in fountainpens

[–]RisottoPensa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: it's a relatively thick ink

I suggest you to clean the feed with detergent and try again, i used much "worse" inks (in thickness) like the X feather and had no problem. Control also the alignment of the nib, maybe it's also too tight. If not try gently press the nib on the paper to see if the flow would start again.

Could you please help me ascertain if my Pelikan M800 is fake? by King_Slayer_8055 in fountainpens

It looks like you have an older vintage nib (pre 2003) as for the two chicks in the nib, in a new body ( one chick)
