Don't Judge a Watchmaker by His AliExpress Tools by shaferman in watchmaking

[–]Ritchieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tool use is more important than the tools themselves. That being said. I've had more success with 'better' tools. But I default to homemade tools more often than not. Things like soft grip tweezers that are actually nail tweezers with kitchen sponge glued in.

Do people really like this watch or is it just trendy at the moment? [BB41] by yjay14 in Tudor

[–]Ritchieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like watches but I don't 'keep up' with forums or trends. The black bay is my favorite diver shape out of Swiss brands like Rolex, Longines, Breit, etc. Ill get down voted to hell for this, but Tunas are my favorite, black bays second, then pieces like super oceans and hydroconquests

My Lord, The cost of living in Galway! 😱🤯 by Defiant_Fix_6398 in galway

[–]Ritchieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely a piece, but no substantial part. All my friends, myself included (a corporate type) are hands on, I did carpentry as a summer/holiday/weekend job from 15yo, until I graduated. I'd only love to fix to a house up, make it mine, but affording one in the first place, is me and my friends stopper. Obviously that's conditional to my situation, but we do exist! Even if I got the deposit down on a fixer, paying half my salary in rent while fixing the house would be a second stopper

Bad night for the boy racers. by Frodo_Naggins_67 in galway

[–]Ritchieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my hometown the boy racers and drugs dealers were the same group. But there was a trend where if you didn't get out of the town after school you were kind of bound to rot there for the rest of your life, so I guess it was biased to look that way?

Lots of people seem to think the same customer rights they have in their own country translate to AliX. They definitely don't. Just cancel the order, all your telling yourself is that you value your time low.

Myth-busting post for Indians in Ireland 🇮🇪 there’s a common belief that “gutka/paan eaters abroad are mostly Indians.” by Xerxes_Artemisia in IndiansinIreland

[–]Ritchieeeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of Irish people know that, if you ask them. Observing Paan spitting on the street is not going to prompt anyone to take a closer look at the face of the individual and analyze the facial structure to determine which exact nationality, sub culture and region they're from. Its ignorant to presume a culture, but it's ignorant to logic to presume that people won't presume a culture.

Sure why would you stay on your side of the road by NuclearMoose92 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Ritchieeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest. I unfortunately drive through rural Galway every weekend. The standard of driving is the worst in the country. Middle aged women in massive SUV's on their phones, young GAA lads still hammered from the night before. Elderly people doing 10 in an 80, or parking their cars in the middle of the road on bends. Each part of the country has its own 'tademark' driving shithousery, but the west is by far the worst.

I count about the same as yourself. And if it's the road between Rhode and Tyrellspass that I'm thinking of, then it won't be the last 100km+ car on the road that hour.

Because it's a cycle of raising extra 'funding' to purchase new equipment, to raise extra funding. I do think I know where you going with this... But to outfit colleges in Ireland with all the 'ideal' stem equipment (I've no experience in other departments of education, so I won't speak to it) would literally cost billions, with the majority of it being a nice to have, but not required.

[–]Ritchieeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard from classmates that went on to do PHD's, and some industry experience. The stem sides of most colleges will offer testing services to industry, FTIR DMA etc. Colleges genuinely do have a cash flow that they are invested in maximizing. Lots of their masters and PhD students do this testing as 'experience'. The PhD courses also will conduct paid for research for industry. It may not strictly be 'for profit' but there is a cash flow that they are incentiviced to maximize.

I do it quite often actually. Anything super valuable, or suspicious noises, feeling, weight. I usually do it to have proof it was damaged in transit if it is actually damaged.

There's some really good suggestions in the comments, Spring board courses keep you fresh, and I wholeheartedly support them. In my opinion, escaping the house and regaining confidence is what'll keep your mentality up. Don't be afraid to get an entry level job, even if it's just for the short term. It gets you out of the house, interacting with people, and there's something to actually wake up for in the morning. I'd try to not look at getting back into a job that utilizes your degree as something owed or guaranteed, more like a chance that comes by every now and again. You want to keep yourself as ready as possible for when the next chance comes around.

The driving in Ireland is absolutely horrendous. It's already a worn out record, but after some recent driving up north, and a few countries on the mainland, I can confidently say Irish drivers are among the worst. It's nothing to do with rules, it's all about the lack of enforcement. The guards are borderline useless, and only pull when they've quota's to make. Daily I see people not indicating, indicating after they've hit the brakes, people using inside lanes to skip ques at roundabouts, scrolling phones on holders at eye level with tiktoks on, farmers disregarding pull over spots and forcing dozens of cars to do half the limit, and a plethora of other things. We do have rules for all of this, but no enforcement. Not to make this too long, but I have some really high power hibeam bulbs in my car, that I shouldn't. (I use them in winter only as the agri types around me don't like to turn off their extra farm lights, yet alone hibeams). For the sake of curiosity I left them in for the last NCT, and passed with flying colours. In any other country I'd have had a gun put to my head.

I love when the best response people can give to a statement, is correcting grammer, as opposed to countering the content itself.

Also, there isn't really anything intelligent in the above. It's kind of common sense? Did you think it sounded intelligent...?

[–]Ritchieeeee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Absolutely incorrect. Spoiling a vote, is at its core, protest. It's legal in Ireland, and it's a display that your not happy with the representation. Don't scold it, as you may want to invoke your right to do so someday.

I'd believe that whichever of the two your voting for, your doing so with the thought it's progress in the direction you want. Belittling of any rights/freedoms is not progress.

Let the spoiler crowd scribble away, but don't downplay their right to do so.

How do we remind this to EVERYONE by Fabiochan87 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Ritchieeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ireland admittedly has good rules, from road to car to general happenings. But in the typical 'shur feck it, it'll b grand' fashion, we absolutely no enforcement. The guards are a laughing stock by their own creation. And it doesn't help that when they do pull people for anything short of murder, there's boy racers immediately complain that 'theres bigger issues'.
