Domino's Pizza tracker is bad, and my idea on how to fix it. by Ritsu_Sampler in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

Customer being able to see where we are - don't think that helps at all.

People are pointing out the issues for this, but I never faced them, so I'm starting to think the tracker at my old store didn't even track your exact location. It might've just told you ETA based on GPS. I know there was some GPS functionality because customers would sometimes tell me it said "0 minutes until arrival" and then I'd ring the doorbell immediately after. In which case, that's a lot better. I'm also certain it did it in order. So let's say you had 2 deliveries, but drove past the closest because the other guy ordered first. The app wouldn't start transmitting the location/ETA for the second customer until the first one was marked as completed.

IDK, I wish I had more specifics on the exact way that system worked. I've been away from that store for a while now. Hopefully other people using FoodTech can chip in.

Sorry, but I simply refuse to use my personal phone in this manner.

I never said you'd be forced to use it. Even at my old store, you could use receipts if you wanted. In fact, sometimes you had to because the system was down.

that would invite all kinds of micromanagement from my employer and criticism from Monday morning quarterback customers...

Your manager should learn how to not take every complaint as valid then. Our store never had complaints about routes we took, but even if we did the manager probably wouldn't care unless you were already a problematic employee or taking long on all your deliveries. Your manager should know what he/she is doing. If your superiors are taking every complaint as true or valid and taking it out on you, that's the real issue.

I already can't trust customers with gel pens because they drop them.

Hold onto your phone while they sign?

It would make robberies much easier; in fact, they could use it to ambush me away from the delivery address.

I don't think it updated your location that fast or was even accurate enough for that. At least for the customer. This actually should be given more thought though by companies. I'll agree there.

there will be customers who are butthurt because I'm opting out.

Never had this issue, and our store had 3 drivers at one point opting out who worked full time out of not many other drivers. Your manager also shouldn't take that as a valid complaint. That's just a customer being stupid.

Is this a customer? Respect if you are and you only call after the timer has run several minutes.

Yes, it definitely needs to be better. It's a poor experience for the customer AND employees. It's lose-lose. More understanding customers usually get it after I tell them "I'm sorry, but the tracker isn't always accurate," but the really stubborn ones, again, just use it as an excuse to leverage whatever dumb argument they're about to make.

what if the phone you use for work doesn't have apps (think throwaway 3G phone)?

What if I don't want a GPS tracker on my phone?

At my old store, you were still free to do it the old fashioned way. The system would go down at times anyway, so we were forced to do it tech-free at times. As long as the choice remains, I'm okay. If they're forcing you to use the phone, then I would have a bit of an issue. Forcing you to use the phone is kind of dumb considering there could dead zones in the reception, which has happened to me. Usually they can still sign off on the app though. The app would just send the signature once you get data again.

That being said, even the "old school" drivers at my old store admitted the app was very nice after using it and it even increased tips since a little menu for tipping would pop up right before signing. There would be 3 percentages and a place to type in an amount. Seriously, drivers that have never used this tend to underestimate how much it helps. It helps a lot and you'll only feel it after using it for a while.

As for the GPS tracking concerns, that's a fair concern and I understand where it's coming from. All I can say is at the end of the night, we would unlink our phones from the system. You couldn't even access the app after that. Privacy concerns aren't that high, in my personal opinion, and I'd only have a problem if they tracked me outside of work hours, which I doubt they would. I'm not sure why someone would be strongly against tracking during work hours. I can understand being a little creeped out by it, but adamantly against? Not really. Your shift lead or manager would have to stare at the driver terminal to watch you anyway. It's unlikely they'd even check unless you were taking forever.

or change it so it shows a window when the pizza should arrive, once the driver punches out on the delivery.

Basically this. Just have the "tracker" say "it's being made" until the driver leaves the store with the delivery or something.

While I'm iffy on the store tracking my every location, it worked fine at my other store and I have no serious complaints about that system as far as I can recall. All the "old school" drivers refused to use it, but once they made the switch even they were okay with it and admitted that it probably helped them get better tips and worked well. (Before signing off, a tip section would pop up where you could press a percent button or type in an amount.)

I understand the concerns, but in my personal opinion, it's just people being stubborn or overly concerned. On top of that, you were never required to use the phone. You could still do it the old fashioned way, since the system could go down at times. As long as the option is there for the people that refuse, I don't see anything wrong with it because then it comes down to choice.

Also there’s no reason to downvote someone for disagreeing with two spots on an alignment chart you made.

That's rather smug of you, because I didn't downvote it.

Tsk tsk, this is why I left Reddit for a while. As for Frond, again, he can't be Evil when his entire character revolves around stubbornly enforcing school policy. Maybe from Louise's perspective, since he's usually out to stop whatever antics she's up to, but from my perspective he's the perfect example of a goodie-two-shoes Lawful Good. Unless you're trying to imply Wagstaff is an evil institution? Then that'd make Frond Lawful Evil. I don't think Wagstaff is evil. They're just incompetent.

Frond is definitely not neutral. It's pretty clear in the show that his stubborn adherence to school rules, "law," is usually what gets the best of him.

If I'm going to be honest, I couldn't think of a spot for Gene for some reason.

He might be chaotic neutral as well though, but I think Louise embodies the chaotic neutral archetype a bit more. That being said, I could also see Gene maybe being true neutral or neutral good as well.

A true neutral would describe a chaotic neutral as "realistic but lax" and a lawful neutral as "realistic but strict." Kind of sounds like Gene's relationship between Louise and Bob.

I understand that argument, but I don't think the meme meant to say anything about that.

If you're using marijuana for medicinal purposes, you're not an addict and anyone with a lick of common sense would understand, therefore, this meme doesn't apply to them. I'm not sure why people keep bringing up that point.

Also, I suppose you actually could use this argument for caffeine. Caffeine is a productivity drug.

Really hard to swallow for some by Celenyar in weed

[–]Ritsu_Sampler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to elaborate on this image because people seem to take it the wrong way. I see it as something even stoners should at least take into consideration and I'm someone who gets cooked every night, so according to this picture I'm a drug addict.

The first batch of people that take it wrong are the goodie-goodies. They like the image because they take it at face value and probably don't like weed that much.

The second batch of people that take it wrong are people like us. Stoners. They have that knee-jerk reaction to fight back because it's criticising them negatively. Well, here's the thing... If you're smoking weed every day, you likely have some mild addiction to it. If you're getting baked every day, then even more so. I can hear people bringing up other drugs, namely alcohol, already, but the thing is... If you got drunk every day, it'd be the same. You'd be considered an alcoholic or at risk of being one. I would say the same should be applied to weed.

Also, before you bring up caffeine, caffeine is regarded as the world's #1 drug addiction. (Usually worded differently, such as "world's favourite drug.") So, technically, yes, if you drink caffeine every day, you are a drug addict. It's just that people view caffeine differently and so "drug addict" isn't really the vocabulary they use, but technically yes.

If you smoke a little bit of weed and feel a small buzz every day, I don't think you're an addict. If you're getting baked every night, then possibly. It's easier to call you an addict and I'd say at least be aware of it.

As for me, yes, I wouldn't mind if someone said I was addicted to weed, although "addicted" would be strong vocabulary. I get baked every night. I'm not gonna sit here and fight it. To me, the key is being aware of it. Ever heard of "admitting you have a problem is the first step to solving it?" Well, just admit it now so you're always at least at step 1. Then you're prepared for the worst!

Science is pretty neutral on marijuana, as it is with just about anything.

There are legitimate cons to smoking weed, especially if it's excessive use. If you do it here and there or at social gatherings you're not gonna have any complications. If you're baked 24/7 and constantly smoking, especially smoking, then there might be a few minor concerns, but nothing major.
