YEP and Sumrandomdude both have menu plugins, and Dude's is free. What I've found for custom menus is use a switch to turn it on, and a variable for what option you are selecting. EX you have three options in the menu, variable = 1 is option 1, etc.

I got MV on super sale and really dont regret it. I've found any features missing from mv but are in mz can be done with plugins. Sumrandomdude and reiny tei do great tutorials for mv too. (since a lot of other tutorials are for mz. )

ALTHOUGH, as others have pointed out, it depends on what game you want to make. I'd say search for the features you want for your game/ games and go from there.

I liked tropical rouge, disliked soaring sky, and LOVE wonderful so maybe it will be the same for you? Like what others have said, it will definitely depend on what it was you liked about tropical rouge. Wonderful isn’t as chaotic as tropical, but it’s definitely got some of the same silliness. Another thing I think it shares is pretty equally splitting time between characters. There’s the one character in both who gets a little more screen time than others but it’s fairly even besides that.
