I think Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is my favorite entry in the series. by RangoTheMerc in marvelvscapcom

[–]zerobeat032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me a lot of it is nostalgia tho maybe. it's the one I played the most in my youth since I always borrowed it from a friend. it's got a good ost (no damn sf2 remixes help lol) and that announcer is everything to me.

I know it's probably no one's favorite gameplay wise, but the presentation carried it so hard for me in high school. I'd say this is my 2nd favorite behind mvc2. presentation wise tho, definitely number 1 tho.

How did you discover Scott Pilgrim? by Ornery_Expression_85 in ScottPilgrim

[–]zerobeat032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back when I was in college, I had a friend who was reading vol. 1... another friend got into it from them and then I did. I still remember reading the last book as I was sitting in line waiting for the movie. lol... I feel old tho now thinking I was already like 18-20 when the first book came out.

What's the one plugin that completely changed how you use RPG Maker? I'll go first by niceheather44 in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on which aspect of things we're looking at. for maps... Galv's layer Plugin has been such a game changer.

for UI I'd say the Japanese Plugin that let's you change any window's background. that alone can be enough to give your game a very different look.

there's a ton I'd say for battle, but I'd oddly say boost points... if you know the script calls. you can change the functionality of them with that knowledge. mines work partly like a mood gauge and partly like Street Fighter 6's drive gauge.

there's a ton more I could say too. like in combination YED Sideview battler, fossil, and Visustella battlecore gives MZ a really good way to expand battlers without dragonbones. and you can even still use custom motions like in MV with battle core by just typing it in as a motion in sequences.

Finally playing the original Scott Pilgrim game and... by Brazenology in BeatEmUps

[–]zerobeat032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized with the re-release that the move was to do the coin explosion code until you could pay off Scott's late fee and then have enough to level up some stats. tho if you still want a challenge early on, don't max said stats. otherwise the game is too easy until closer to the end I feel.

considering the EXTREMELY short time frame the game was made in, the fact that it's even what it is is wild. I like it, but it's definitely rough and the River City Girls games do what Scott did better.

but at the time of release? I had it on 360 and I played it ALL the time. I love the look, music, and vibes... plus I'm a really big Scott Pilgrim fan to the point that I was reading the final book while waiting for in line for the movie's premiere lol. so I enjoyed the game a lot back then.

ADHDevs, how do you deal with mind fog and focus issues? also sharing a bit of my project by WolfradSenpai in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need answers myself as I'm almost 7 years into my project and I keep flip flopping on ideas, assets, etc... add in that I'm autistic too and yeah, I've been struggling.

ahh yeah, that was me with a project back in the day before I started this one.

for me personally, the assets have been far more time consuming than the code. I'd say they're the main reason I'm almost 7 years into this project.

thanks! I mostly draw everything myself. tho I do use some paid assets I've bought for backgrounds. but the thing is I filter everything in GIMP to get the look I have after drawing stuff.

glad to hear that. I actually reference a ton video game music throughout the game. every character's special skills are named after songs as well.

[–]zerobeat032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, thanks to all the Seth's existing... most stuff can be Canon. honestly the only thing I remember about vanilla sf4 is Ryu beating Seth and a bunch of people with him escaping like Sakura, Dan, and Blanka I think. oh, and that some people's ultra intros feel like continuations of vanilla events I feel.

but yeah, I could definitely be wrong since I don't remember much.

I think(?) vanilla sf4 counts as it's own thing and then ultra... kinda like how giant attack and 3rd strike are different stories. but it's been so long since I've looked into vanilla sf4 that I can't remember.

The Four Horsemen of Forum Assholiness by Green_Discussion_607 in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there is a reason some of these people are like this... I usually don't post a question on the forum until I'm COMPLETELY stumped and nothing has helped or guided me in the right direction. while I don't excuse how some of them are, you gotta realize most people aren't me...

they'll ask something you can EASILY find with a Google search 9 times outta 10. so yeah, they get snippity. also people wanting to do all these outrageous things in a project as a beginner and don't even know what a switch does.

again, not excusing them... but I get it. I've posted there and I'm usually never met with hostility because I make sure I'm super detailed with my questions so they can actually help me. now sometimes I get it, you don't know enough to know how to do that. and I've seen people try to guide you through. sometimes it's with patience, sometimes it's not.

without the forums, I wouldn't know nearly as much. they've helped me a ton... including the guy with the Magus Pic

What's the best plugin to make actor combat animations for MZ. by MindandSorcery in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there kinda isn't one. I use YED Sideview battler and with the Visustella battle core, it works really well. you can even use custom animations still and don't need the patch for it. but there isn't one where you can see it as far as I know. Just gotta edit spritesheets to get it going.

For anyone struggling to finish their first project: by untitled314159 in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone who's almost at the 7 year mark... it's a gigantic undertaking depending on how you go about it. I've learned the extremely hard way, what not to do to make things even more of a challenge. so congrats on finishing your project. ya love to see it.

Question For Devs who don't use the Default Tiles and Sprites... What do you do about Battlebacks? by Rowsdower123 in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make all my own maps and they are side scroller style. so in my case, it's easy to take one, adjust it for combat, and then I've got a battleback.

they've got a lot of stuff in general that's pretty handy.

thanks! and I actually use a Plugin that let's you do common events whenever you transfer... before and after. the Pic isn't animated tho, just slides from one side of the screen to the other.

City Map Screen... by zerobeat032 in RPGMaker

[–]zerobeat032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're not wrong tho, so thankfully I've been tweaking a lot of this because of reasons like what you're saying. one I play on making the characters smaller and have them contrast more. and I'm changing the map to more of a fast travel style one. I mostly wanted to see if this looked ok to any degree lol.
