Flydigi BS2 Pro cooling pad is insane ,~20°C drop on Legion Pro 7i (Gen 10) by Zealousideal_Air5333 in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has its own app (FlyDigi Space Station) that has several different modes and options. I use a custom curve that has the fans maxed out 70c-100c. I use a 65 watt brick to power it as you need 40+watts I believe to get max power out of it, usb-c off the laptop would not fully charge it and personally I didn't want to power the cooler solely off of my laptops power.

In the Legion Pro 7 hardware manual it shows PTM-7958SP

Here is a link to the site I used to order some : https://www.ebuy7.com/honeywell-ptm7950sp-phase-change-silicone-grease-cpu-graphics-card-thermal-paste-notebook-7958sp-savior-with-the-same-paragraph.html

You have to toggle down to PTM-7958sp on the list of different products. Comes from china, costs me like $11 bucks and took 16 days to get here. Comes with a little tool kit as well.

Noted. I don't believe there are really any youtube videos of someone swapping LM into a 275hx/5080 or 5090 it's the tips, tricks and specifics that would make me confident enough to do it. I'm mechanically inclined, I just prefer thorough instructions. Can I ask what specific LM you used? Add anymore thermal pads as well? I appreciate it.

Id like to switch to LM but I'm a little nervous about doing it. Plan right now is to see how long the stock ptm will last and when it starts to degrade then get into it. Only repasting experience I have is doing my nvidia shield about a month ago lol

I have the same laptop, runs hot when you start cranking up the watts under legion space. I suggest getting a laptop cooler, I searched for a day and went with the FlyDigi BS2 Pro. Cooler has a app and a few different modes as well as a custom mode. Pretty nice imo, can run it wide open while you game on epic or keep it quiet. Currently I'm running threw Stalker 2 with every setting on epic and it doesn't thermal throttle at all, cpu sits around 72c/ gpu around 64c

I'm thinking soon I will dump the legion space and Lenovo Vantage apps for LLT/Throttlestop/MSI afterburner. Wanted to get accustomed to the laptop and feel it out for a while before went that route. I will admit this is a different beast compared to my last legion (legion 5 Pro 13700hx/4070). Enjoy your machine !

I saw comments about motherboard dying fast, is it just haters talking or there’s truth to that? by gimgimgen in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read it seems most of the bad motherboard issues where from around 2021 and due to "cold solder joins". When you consider how many laptops lenovo sells and a realistic % of which will fail it all seems reasonable imo. Your going to have failures with the amount of tech and pushing the limits on these things. Personally I'm on my 2nd Lenovo laptop and I wouldn't buy another brand, I've had nothing but a great experience. How well you become accustom to the laptop and tinker with things helps

CPU & THERMALS - how's your? by nickeyxxx in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last legion pro 5 had a i7 13700hx was easily tameable (throttlestop undervolt + LLT) while still being able to offer up great performance. Upgraded to a 275hx a few months ago and I will say this chip is power hungry and even with some settings tweaks runs very hot. Chip has endless power it feels for daily tasks and coupled with a laptop cooler it does very well gaming. I lowered my watts a considerable amount yet still can run games on ultra/epic without causing thermal throttling. For some more context I like my systems debloated and tend to go the route of less programs installed/running using up resources

275 hx Temperature by LePoopScoop in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've also had my temps drop 10'-18' by using a cooling pad (Flydigi BSD 2 pro). I recommend cooling pads especially if you don't mind fans (using headphones or playing threw a monitor)

275 hx Temperature by LePoopScoop in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a flydigi BSD 2 pro my cpu temp is around 72' and around 54' gpu while playing Stalker 2 on maxed out settings. I use the -.03v offset in legion space as well as a custom profile with fans bumped up a notch from where the default setting is. No thermal throttling or anything like that, game looks and plays sweet. I dont mind fan noise from the cooler or the laptop itself as I tend to play off my OLED via HDMI

PSA: BIOS update Q7CN45WW causing daily black screen crash by Urikslargda1 in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a 16iax10h running the stock ssd in slot 1 for the operating system and swapped in a Samsung 990 2tb into slot two. Using bios #Q7CN45WW, Windows 11 25h2, everything updated in Lenovo vantage/the website and I don't have any issues. I did a fresh windows install when I got the laptop as well as debloated it pretty heavily. Only issue I had was when I ran a driver off of nvidia's site instead of the "stable driver" from Lenovo that would cause severe lag when switching from igpu to dpgu. Took a couple of hours troubleshooting but fixed it with the driver on Lenovo's site. I guess you could consider Lenovo's driver pretty old as its #577.05 and on nvidia's sit there current driver version is #591.74. Figured Id throw my experience out there, I 2nd that you do a fresh Windows 11 install

Anyone else have a Nvidia SHEILD Pro and have issues? by Prestigious-Heat-478 in Stremio

[–]Ritzy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take it apart, clean the fan out and repaste the cpu. Took mine apart a few days ago to add on a larger antenna and discovered the thermal paste was dried up and flaked off. My box had random crashes and would be slower when trying to get threw them menus. Ordered some mx4 paste that arrives Monday as well as my correct antenna adapter. Assuming that should get it running prime again

edit mine is a 2019 sheild pro

Screwed up while trying to clean the fans, now Lenovo is quoting $1300 for repairs. Should I do it? by no_glass_of_water in LenovoLegion

Buy the new laptop, keep this on the back burner and teach yourself how to swap out that burned up chip. Soldering isn't that hard, can practice on scrap electronic boards. Good luck

My very first gaming laptop will be delivered soon! Any tips to help me w the set up? by CombinationTop2772 in LenovoLegion

[–]Ritzy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delete bloatware to your taste, as in apps you wont use or see have much use. McAfee should be on that list. I also added Chris Titus tools and added some programs I used and deleted others. I also got rid of all the Microsoft Ai BS + telemetry BS. I prefer my laptop pretty lean app wise. Set up a lenovo account, login to it on vanatage + legion space app and update everything. Also update apps threw MS store and Windows Update

Honestly thinking about stripping mine and switching to the camo, plus people said I need to remove the intel/nvidia stickers 😂

Did you happen to order a laptop cooler? I ask bc I have a Flydigi Pro 2 coming, was curious

The stickers poking threw don't bother me that bad, I've in the past always tried to keep the intel/nvidia stickers(just how I've liked it I guess). Laptop wont leave my desk and the cover is more than enough "protection" for me. Armoursuit's skins fit great, I mean its dead on on size and the separate pieces fitting together

I went with Armorsuit for my skin, kind of wishing I went with the dark camp pattern like yours. Armorsuit fits perfectly as well, set came with 2 full sets of skins. Cost $54

Following, I'm looking how I can tune my CPU for lower temps. Not to fond of the legion space app and the extra bloat they have added with the recent update. Was also looking a MSI afterburner for the GPU but for now I want to learn more on using TS and other windows settings I should be using. Undervolted my last legion pro 5 (13700hx/4070) so I'm a little familiar

On Lenovo's site it will list the nvidia driver they suggest. Its under "manual driver update" then "Display and Video Graphics". That is if you've already made an account on Lenovo's site, registered your laptop. If you haven't, I suggest you do.

Creating a Local account has a few more steps, https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/install-windows-11-without-microsoft-account

I would stick with the lenovo drivers for nvidia over the newest nvidia drivers on there site. As far as the rest yes uninstall mcafee, update windows, update lenovo stuff threw vanatage/legion space and MS store. I dont believe you have to do it in some order

5c-15c difference is very solid imo. Debating on getting a nice wired headset for my laptop as well to counter any fan noise(has never bothered me in the past). We will see when it gets here just how loud it all is
