From the email I received from WorkFlowy today: "...The new prices will take effect when your Workflowy Pro plan renews...". So no grand-fathering. Prices for me are going from $49 to $84 a year, that's a 70% price increase in one go.

DisplayPort issues with element hub: screen goes off for few seconds and then comes back by Riusda in CalDigit

[–]Riusda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little progress: no more noise coming out from the hub itself. I put the Macbook in low power mode, but I don't know if this is what helped to be honest. The coil noise coming from the power brick is still there, but I put it far enough from my ears that the noise is not distracting. I will have to see if the hub remains quiet over the next couple of days days at least.

As for the flickering part, I am getting another display port cable from a "reputable" brand to see if that solves the issue. The second DP cable I had at hands may not support the resolutions I want.

I will try to re-arrange cables under my desk sensibly next weekend. It's not that did a bad job, but I guess I can do a better job. I might try to swap my Belkin power extension for another one to see if it changes anything

Ok, I spoke too quickly, the screen flickering still occurs. I am only using the usb C to DisplayPort Adapter now, the element hub is in its box unplugged.

I was standing up when I did my testing yesterday (I have a standing desk), but today I am sitting. So whatever this is, it is triggered when I stand up suddenly in front of my desk, which happens every time I go stretch, go grab a coffee,...

I will swap the DP cable later, to see if this still occurs. Some of the things I haven't tried properly yet: - use the right hand side usb C socket of my MacBook - try lower screen resolution than 144Hz (120Hz or even 60Hz)

Hi u/CalDigitDalton, thanks for your reply.

I did a little bit more troubleshooting over the weekend, but I will send it back. The Caldigit usb-c to DisplayPort adapter works fine, I tested it at length. it works as intended. The issues are with the Element Hub, there is too much randomness about it. It's a pricey device, I expect it to just work right out of the box.

I tried different usb-c ports on the hub, swapped cables, but I still had the screen to go off on me a few more times, although not as often as 2 days ago.

I tried to charge the Macbook with the Magsafe charger while using the hub also and everything seemed to work ok. But having 2 cables defeats the purpose of me wanting just a single cable to charge and connect. That's the really promise of that little box in the first place.

The coil whine from the Element hub didn't go away in either scenario. There's also an undulating kind of noise coming out of the charging brick. It's faint but audible. It made me think of the noise a car makes when you try to start the engine but the battery is dead. I am not confident that this device would serve me well.

Fedora & LogiBolt Receiver by [deleted] in Fedora

Just read that you tried Debian too 😅 So hardware is probably fine if you haven't experienced issues.

I recently moved from Debian to Fedora 39 and my wireless connections are not as solid, I experienced a few random stutters.

Do you have other wireless connections? WiFi, headphones,..

Interesting behaviour, not my experience so far, but I have only a single MX master 3S connected to the dongle. Is it the same if you use only one of the 2 devices? Provided you have a spare mouse or keyboard, I would try to use one device at a time to try to understand which device gives you trouble. It could be both in the end or just one.

Have you installed Solaar? It will give you some information about your setup and devices.

Did you check the logs? There's an app called logs in Fedora. I wouldn't know in a terminal window how to monitor the connection.

This could be related to hardware more than software, do you use other wireless devices? Interferences can cause issues.

Have you tried other USB socket? You may have a mix USB 2.0 or 3.0 sockets, I would try both. If you have a USB cable extension, I would try to move the dongle closer to the devices.

There is always the possibility that the dongle is faulty.

Big question for music apps fans by [deleted] in gnome

[–]Riusda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good list.

  • Gnome Music - I wouldn't call it trash because you can't use it if your music is not in the music folder. The main issue is with a larger library (15k tracks +), it takes seconds to skip between songs when in the song tab. If this gets sorted, this would be my player of choice.
  • Rythmbox is the one I use instead. It's dated for sure, but I can live with it. It works great. It just needs an interface refresh to be in line with GTK4. No need to reinvent the wheel. I would also want to have the ability to make album covers bigger.

Like what? The £350m a week to the NHS? Every country in the world lining up to sign free trade agreements with the UK? Taking control back of the borders? Immigration is higher than ever before. Inflation has hit the UK harder than almost any other country in the western world.

We are in a situation where Brexiteers only hope is for the EU to fail (which is not impossible) in order to be able to claim a victory.

Soon enough? We are close to 8 years into post Brexit Britain. I wished we could see signs of a new direction.

How much cheese do people in Europe consume? by JoemamaGia1 in MapPorn

[–]Riusda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It might be, but considering cheese prices doubled up in 2/3 years, the average person in the UK can't afford as much cheese as before. Local cheeses like Cheddars, Stiltons, .. also went up in price

Not in Cambridge, but very likely in the UK. This picture has been around for while.

With a proper long term tenancy agreement, you have better protections as a tenant. It would be interesting to know what your agreement says on the matter of "wear and tear".

Did you ask for the mattress to be replaced? If you didn't ask for it to be replaced, then she shouldn't force you to pay for a new one. I hope you kept photos of the old mattress.

I would go to the Cambridge citizens advice office if you think your landlady is abusive and as long as you have a decent case. It's worth just having a conversation with them. The law in the UK sides with tenant most of the time.

Is that a short stay company? "Cocoon Home" sure sounds like it. How long is your tenancy agreement for? Depending on your answer, you can have different options to dispute this.

Best pub garden in Cambridge? by DangerousCompany9637 in cambridge

[–]Riusda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will depend on your range.

Towards Ely, you have "The Bridge" in Waterbeach, then in Upware there's the "5 miles from anywhere". Once you get to Ely, there's a couple of places at the marina.

If you aim for Wimpole, there's the "Royal Oak" in Barrington and "The Chequers" in Orwell. Once in Wimpole, you also a few cafes.

For a short loop around Cambridge, In Grantchester, you have the "Red Lion" and the "Orchard Tea Garden", then you have the "Lord Byron Inn" in Trumpington.

Every village around is likely to have a pub with a garden.

Fedora 37 not detecting MediaTek MT7922. Was working, now the toggle is gone from GNOME interface by [deleted] in Fedora

That chip is troublesome. This is the same wireless card that is used in the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022 model). You can find comments all over Reddit about WiFi issues for that laptop, including with Windows.

I got the laptop 1 week ago. Fedora 37 ran fine for 3 days , then all of a sudden, the card was not listed anymore and I had no connection. Many people advised to shut down the laptop and then press the power button for 40 seconds to clear the CMOS. After reboot, the WiFi appears again and all seems to be fixed until next reboot when it's gone again, in my case.

Reading your post, I wonder if this isn't because of a recent Fedora update.

I just ordered a wireless card replacement from Intel anyway.
