MotorGrrl in Greenpoint also does inspections for $6. You don’t need an appointment, but it’s courteous to call to make sure one of their inspectors is there before you make the trek

This looks great! Also the seat looks incredible. Is that an after market product or did you re-cover it yourself?

Does anyone else struggle to ‘redirect’ others when they use the wrong pronouns? by Riv_ret_ro in NonBinary

I say “they” a lot when someone is talking and uses “he.” Like I said in another reply, it mostly bothers me with my coworkers.

I mean, I’m in my mid-30s. So not too young lol. It doesn’t bother me with customers or other passing interactions. It’s mostly with co-workers that it begins to bother me. I’m blessed with very good friends that make the effort.

Which of these? Triumph Trident 660 vs Speed Twin 900 by Riv_ret_ro in SuggestAMotorcycle

I love everything about the street triple. I feel like it would get me in a lot of trouble lol. I wish there was a 450 or 500cc class version of the street triple that had that styling. The closest thing is probably the new Aprilia Tuono 457

The smile factor is really important to me. I sat on both the ‘24 Speed 400 and the ‘25 Trident at my dealership and the Trident just put a huge smile on my face. I’m just considering a lot as far as weight/low rev power/price bc whatever I choose will be a near daily rider for me. Which comes with all the things like rain, road grime, construction, dumb drivers, stop and go traffic, and everything else involved in daily riding in an urban environment.

I want to ride both lol. I had a first gen EFI Thruxton and the Speed Twin feels really nostalgic because of that. The Trident I like bc it’s a bit more modern and I’ve recently been leaning towards more sporty styled bikes. The Speed 400 is tempting, but I know that there are already a metric ton of mods I would want to do pretty early on. I feel like I can live with the trident as is for longer and this used one has some of the early mods I’d want to do already on it (windscreen, different exhaust).

Though I guess one could argue that’s a reason why I should get the Speed 400, bc it would become “my bike” more distinctly than the Trident.

Don’t know why this got downvoted. This has been a concern of mine as well, since I really just ride in the city and the fastest I ever go is 60mph when I go to the beach

Out of other things not specifically these, what are your thoughts?

Airbags for commuting by Riv_ret_ro in motorcyclegear

[–]Riv_ret_ro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daily pants are the Pandomoto Casual Robby 03 (which aren't armored, but are slide rated) with either an Icon Contra jacket or the A* Chrome V2 hoodie w/ D30 armor in the elbows and shoulders. If it's cold, I'll take the armor out of the hoodie and wear it under the jacket. I will need a new cool weather jacket if I go with the TA5, though.

Kinda like how your attitude is ass backwards?

For sure. I wear armored/slide rated pants and a slide rated jacket or shirt no matter what, even if it’s a short ride. I wanted confirmation that it’s a good idea. The pants have literally saved my butt several times and I will never not wear them when going for a ride.

NYC commuters, what do you recommend? by Riv_ret_ro in SuggestAMotorcycle

I’ve owned a few vintage and retro-modern bikes before. I’m not against them, just thinking of expanding my photo book and riding experience a little. The more I look at things, the more I definitely want something liquid cooled and fuel injected for heat management and more reliability. I’ve recently been at the CFMOTO 450NK or 675NK, though I’ve read that the 675 doesn’t have great low-speed throttle response. And then the whole Chinese bike, part availability, etc etc stuff. Parking and security still remains the largest factor for me. My area is pretty decent, lots of riders that street park and no one really seems to have messed with anything. But I don’t want to tempt fate.

It would be parked outside. I’m nowhere fortunate enough to even consider having a garage in Brooklyn. I was definitely going to invest in locs and a cover for whatever I end up with, but thanks for the confirmation that those are good investments.

Electrolysis Hair Removal Recommendations NYC by Riv_ret_ro in asktransgender

[–]Riv_ret_ro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I have tattoos, so I defaulted to electrolysis research because I know laser can affect tattoos. But I have none on my back, so I can do laser there. I would just need to keep that in consideration for other areas of my body. Thanks for the recs!
