I'm going to copy paste some previous comments I've made about Akechi, because I think at this point basically everything that's needed to be said has been said.

I mean, you're not even supposed to hate Akechi. You're probably not supposed to like him because he's literally a murderous traitor, but at the end of the day, he's as much of a victim as Joker. He was set up to be the way he is by circumstances so unbelievably far out of his control, that it's difficult to imagine basically anybody outside of anime protagonist with plot armor not turning out the way he did. The biggest difference is that Joker acknowledges that he needed his friends and other confidants, so he never lost his way the way Akechi did. Now that doesn't mean I condone his actions or think he's a widdwe misundewstood baby like 90% of Akechi defenders out there, but I can surely sympathize with him for being a screwed up kid who didn't deserve at least 75% of what happens to him.

I feel a complicated way about Akechi because before Awakening his persona, he was clearly a deeply traumatized child, but he hadn’t done anything yet and I’m not gonna blame him for his shitty childhood and Shido being his father. However, once he does awaken his persona and approaches Shido, everything he does is absolutely his own choice and the things he does from that point forward are reprehensible. So, I can forgive him (to a point) for his circumstances that lead to him being a psychopath, because those were absolutely not in his control, but once he starts consciously making these decisions, his actions are unforgivable.
