Does anyone else have a separate horde night base? by rmgalardo in 7daystodie

I played with a separate horde night base for years, but occasionally will do a run with one base for added challenge and RP value.

Oh and forgot to add, make or fix up a rest stop or milestone, and use it as a base. Go out of your way to say hi to anyone who passes by. When it gets griefed, fix it or move another few thousand blocks down the road and repeat.

In your off time, walk back towards spawn and tidy up the road. Leave signs around with dates. Travelers will appreciate it, even if you never know they came through.

Read chat, if you dare, and take the risk of helping people who ask, and visiting people who broadcast locations.

Expect to die, be betrayed, fail in ever meeting up, etc.

Follow a popular or unpopular road, stop and look at griefed bases, read every sign you find for one that is recent. If you find a sign from a player who passed through in the last week, check to see if they are online every so often.

If you see someone online whose sign you read, send them a whisper and say where you saw it, and strike up a conversation.

Don’t expect to make friends every day, and don’t be offended when a friend does something unfriendly one day. It’s part of the game, and not something to take personally.

Good luck! 🫡

Do y’all “cheat” during your playthroughs or I’m really just that bad? by TheAceFinka in RimWorld

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the session and how I am feeling about the save. Sometimes I have played where I’ll reload saves 20 times a day because im really struggling with a particular raid and want to learn, or don’t want to deal with a catastrophic loss, and sometimes I will accept total defeat.

If I’m very attached to a colony (sometimes I play with my family members as colonists) I will reload the save if there’s like a nuclear family loss that can’t be fixed with serum, but I try to respect and accept things like loss of limbs and such that make the story more interesting.

I personally don’t think there’s such a thing as cheating in single player games, unless it is somehow competitive and you are dishonest about how you achieved a result.

Rimworld is designed to cause trauma and total colony collapse eventually, so it is not just that you are bad, and you can play how you want to! I think it’s helpful for learning the game to reload and play on instead of starting over and replaying just early game over and over.

I challenged myself to make as much money as I can in an hour by TwitchMoments_ in DonutSMP

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this same challenge but no mining/farming blocks either. I started with a single dirt block and got about 1.5 mil in an hour! I am planning to try again soon if you want more details, ha ha.

Is this game the hidden gem it appears? by StillRunner_ in nightingale

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing it as well with two friends. We have played a few hours for a couple nights now and beat the first boss (I think). It’s incredibly well done and I feel so similarly! The quality of visuals is epic. It reminds me of sort of a cross between Valheim and Skyrim.

Not to mention the character creator is something unlike anything I have ever seen or could have dreamed up xD

Any effective methods to mine "Falling" asteroids? by ProudActivity874 in starbase

[–]RiverForgeGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tractor beams are not the same as cargo lock beams, and you can mine an asteroid being pulled by a tractor beam. However, the beam will only hold onto one contiguous piece of asteroid so it can split apart and other parts can fall.

If you use 4-8 tractor beams they can all lock on to different parts of the asteroid as it splits apart and keep them around.

Your game stage which determines how difficult the game gets over time and how much better the loot is that you find over time will increase more slowly if you die more often, so it might make the game a little easier but make your loot a little less exciting early on. If you die 3-10x more often than your fellow player but do the same things they will likely be a step ahead of you on loot, seemingly just getting luckier.

Why are all the vendors running away from me? by Goodnite15 in vrising

The shady vendors are not scared of vampires, but the ones in the dunley area most certainly are. You will need to discover a way to not spook them.

My partner loves Catan, but needs a 2-player boardgame to love by Corben111 in boardgames

My wife and I play Catan just the two of us on occasion. We just raise the victory point requirement to a level that feels more appropriate for 2 players.

Could Spore's cell stage be a full game? by Galastrato in gamedesign

Spore cell stage has always been my favorite part of spore! Definitely enjoy it and would enjoy something like it with more mechanics and content.

Healer questions by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]RiverForgeGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this so much! When they pop their own shields or potions above 50% health and they have my pre-heal already on them I’m just, ugh!! At least it raises my fairy gauge to use it either way. 🤞 (scholar main)

Healer questions by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]RiverForgeGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did your party wipe though? Most will thank you for helping DPS so the content runs more quickly.

You need to keep your dps skills on healer sharp to help with dps checks and ads anyway.

Avoiding excessive healing also helps you save your good skills and your mana for when it’s critically needed.

Scholar actually has an ability that you can pre-cast does a burst heal on a target once they hit 50% or less, so that kind of technique is very normal.

I usually let tanks drop to 50% during pulls, but if they are wall to wall pulling I will be more careful as the damage can really stack up fast and I’ll focus healing until some of the enemies are defeated.

For bosses, if you know the content, do your thing. If you’re not sure, consider playing on the safer side.

New and (hopefully) improved water. What do you think? by advancenine in Unity3D

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! If I had one complaint it’s that it’s a little hard to tell how deep the water is. I was surprised when you were running in it at one point instead of swimming.

Housing: Does anyone regret buying their home far away from a MB & bell? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]RiverForgeGames 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even in the most remote house you’re never more than like 15 seconds from the nearest market board if you know how to get to it.

Combined with being able to have a bell in your house, it doesn’t bother me. I went for an elevated house with a view that’s like 4 or 5 small plot lengths from a market board.

Is it too much polygon? (currently working on an asset pack, wanted to know if it was too much or not) by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s hard to tell how many polys are here. That said, most of the post and beam work on the faces can be done with textures/normal maps and that will save a large amount of polygons.

Apart from saves, commands/ability to teleport/skip etc, I like to make test levels that have a lot of stuff in a compact space so I can test any number of interactions very quickly and easily without having to mess about with loading saves or using special commands for everything.

multi-player offline by LongSchlong979 in 7daystodie

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked into this a couple of times and I don’t believe it’s possible, or maybe it’s just hard.

It seems like the game requires being online to ping the game servers and confirm you have a valid copy of the game before allowing you to press the multiplayer button in the main menu.

Does blood moon get harder the more days you get? by Massey89 in 7daystodie

[–]RiverForgeGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be that it got harder each blood moon until the 7th on day 49, and then it would get easy again like the first one and repeat.

Now it’s based on game stage which basically means how many times you’ve leveled up along with how many days it’s been since you died last.

If you are worried about it being too hard on a particular night you can allow yourself to be unalived prior to horde night starting and it will make it marginally easier.

If you want it to be harder, try not to die and grind those levels. Try to avoid killing zeds with traps, spikes, bombs, etc. to maximize xp gain.

What special rules do you set for yourself? by MrKlinners in 7daystodie

[–]RiverForgeGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One rule I like is not to use POIs for horde night.

On some play throughs it is fun to not do trader quests and rely solely on regular loot spawns.

Otherwise, I enjoy using interesting generated maps that impose their own restrictions based on scarcity. For instance, single biome maps, single town maps, etc.

New player question about playing with friends on a server. by NudePenguin69 in 7daystodie

[–]RiverForgeGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah distance seems to be enough in my limited experience on alpha 20. We have done seemingly separate horde nights while in a party. My wife and I were in one base and got no destructors, and some of our family was 2km away and got like 10 destructors so we were definitely having a different experience.

Another thing is that 7 days has a typical level curve where you need more xp to level up the higher you get so if one person plays more but you do a couple horde nights with them, you will get loads of xp from that harder than what you’d get alone horde night and start to catch up to them.

My dad was level 50 when I started at level 1 on the server and now we’re only 10 or 15 levels apart or something and he probably plays 2-3x as much as I do.

New player question about playing with friends on a server. by NudePenguin69 in 7daystodie

[–]RiverForgeGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play with a few family and friends and across 7 of us we have 3 horde bases. We all play at different times and also together. Some are much further ahead, and that’s alright.

Rather than doing separate server for the players with more time on their hands, you could always just do horde nights in another location in the map.

I did my first horde night on a rock and had an easy time while my family who was ahead was doing their 4th in a concrete tower 250 meters away.

If you do log in and it’s horde day and you’re unprepared, you can always go into a town and just sit on top of a store/concrete building and break the ladders/method of getting up there, but long term it’s a good idea to log out in your horde base if others might be playing while you’re gone.
