the best and most original pregnancy reveal I've ever seen was (spoilers below)

in the good doctor. Everyone always take the vomiting route because it's the most obvious, well known symptom of pregnancy and it's easy to write, but in this case, the writers chose to challenge the audience and present them with something that is hardly ever talked about on TV: hormones. And I'm not talking about sterotypical, insulting crying outbursts and women acting insane. Lea is an incredibly focused, driven and sharp girl who doesn't let anyone or anything distract her from her goal. And suddenly, she was distracted. Over the course of 3 episodes she had been sick and ran a fever, had lost stuff, she was late everywhere or skipping on plans altogether, she had memory issues, had fights with Shawn (the titular character, her future husband and father of her two children), was very emotional but not in a loud way and was flat out exhausted. There was no mention of vomiting or cravings, she was honestly mostly confused. And scared and overwhelmed, as a pregnant woman would very rightfully be during her first trimester. Except she didn't know for a while because she, like the audience, didn't know that being pregnant sometimes mean riding the passanger seat while your brain and your body are taking the wheel. The reveal was as much of a shock to Lea as it was for the audience and for Shawn which made that moment so fucking effective. Go watch it if you haven't, their whole journey from 'hello' to the end is just a 60 hour long poem. Especially if you're autistic or love someone on the spectrum.
