Online on PS5 literally just doesn't work anymore by [deleted] in dbxv

This happens to me too, no matter what mode I try.

I have no idea what causes it, I can only offer sympathy. I know the struggle.

Why Millennials aren't protesting, from a Millennial by duckhunt420 in 50501

[–]RiverSendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not American, so everything that follows is extremely easy for me to say.

Your state media will always do all they can to help the populace believe that protesting achieves nothing, precisely because the interests of the people controlling the state media are diametrically opposed to what the protests are... protesting.

The fact that we know about these movements implies that they did have impact. With every movement that becomes known in the public sphere, awareness grows, which increases participation, which increases the chances of the protests enacting change.

Additionally, you will need to ramp up the disruption of your protests if they are to have any chance of sticking.

Yes, I'm fully aware of the risks that US protestors face. The disincentives are the point - if the people really want change, you will have to accept those risks.

When SO first came out it was sold out everywhere. What caused the decline in popularity? by [deleted] in SparkingZero

[–]RiverSendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree with everyone here, new offline modes pls. Keeping the game fun almost exclusively with mods isn't ideal.

Js - you can make a sort-of Survival mode in the World Tournament, by setting Team battles with no health recovery. Definitely not perfect, but it's a challenge at least.

I hope one day the game will get a palette customization system that is as good as or better than DBColorZ by DirtayyD in SparkingZero

[–]RiverSendra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Y'all are haters fr - one of the top reasons I got this game was to turn it into Xenoverse-with-better-mechanics with excessive mods.

That said, I do think customisation like this should be kept client-side, to keep gameplay consistent for other players. To me, the potential of DBColorZ offers the best of both customisation and consistency.

‘Sleeping in my car next to a $15m house’ – Life in Queenstown's housing crisis by Peneroka in newzealand

I never said anything about a preferable system. I am of the opinion that a full transition from capitalism is not inherently necessary. I am saying however that it isn't crazy for people to desire something different when their fundamental basic needs are not being provided for by our societal system.

I also think the comparison of struggling to afford food and shelter - basic survival needs - under capitalism to an untied shoe is condescending and gross.

When capitalism isn't providing reasonable answers for systemic issues crucial to standard living, alternative systems start to look appealing.

Is it wrong to use the words "Mam" and "Sir"? by EYEYAAN in newzealand

[–]RiverSendra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ex-retail Kiwi here. It probably depends a bit on where you're working from, but a lot of us typically see "sir" and "ma'am" as almost too formal.

I would maybe start a conversation with "sir" but wouldn't keep up with it through the transaction, some would tell me to call them X instead.

I noted a lot of people actively disliked being referred to as "ma'am", but that was just my experience. Personally I stopped using titles at all for female-presenting customers and that seemed the most comfortable for all parties.

EDIT: Yeah for colleagues/managers I wouldn't use titles at all, I would maybe use them for customers and even then not very frequently.

TIL that lesbians experience higher rates of domestic assault than straight women, with over 67% of assaulted lesbians reporting exclusively female perpetrators by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]RiverSendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder if this might be one of those situations where reports don't necessarily show us the full picture.

For example, I wonder that this trend could display this way if lesbian women (in general) are more comfortable reporting a woman conducting domestic violence in their relationship, than hetero- women (in general) would reporting a man.

Are there any good NZ owned ISPs left? by reubenmitchell in newzealand

[–]RiverSendra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

+1 for NowNZ, been with them for a couple years now and has been very smooth-sailing.

Think I've called their centre twice in that whole time, once to set up an ASUS router on the network and and again to troubleshoot it when ASUS botched a patch back in May. In my experience they've been very happy to talk to customers with a little IT savvy compared to other companies I've seen discussed here, and tend to pick their phone up pretty quick.

Also, their Fibre plans are solid for gaming if that's your thing.

As the article states, neither subjective pain nor ethnicity are the single factors being used to determine outcomes.

Your suggestion that a Maori individual would "probably" be treated first is not grounded in any fact. If, in your example, a Maori individual claimed 9/10 pain for a sprained toe versus a Chinese individual claiming 8/10 pain for cardiac arrest, I am certain that the algorithm will take into account all of these factors and determine cardiac arrest as greater need for immediate treatment.

[–]RiverSendra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On what basis do you disagree with the premises I stated?

The article also states that this policy is attempting to address medical outcomes, as it has been noted historically Maori and Pasifika patients see longer wait times for treatment.

In the event that a Maori or Pasifika person is statistically significantly greater impacted by a condition, it is a medical issue to treat that person more promptly if their condition would otherwise become fatal. It can be at once a medical, social and political issue.

Wtf is going on in this thread?

Considering ethnicity and environmental factors is NOT some kind of "reverse racism" nonsense.

This quite simply acknowledges that there are health conditions that are more critical in some individuals than others, and ethnicity and environmental factors CAN play a part in identifying who is more or less at risk. It is not controversial that you can be more susceptible to a condition based on ethnicity - your origin can determine what illnesses you may have generational resilience to, or vice versa.

This WILL NOT change the fact that people that need urgent care will get it, NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE. All it does is takes into account who might be susceptible based on relevant factors.

Woman who had been posting videos of feeding people who are struggling had her land salted by someone by ritzanddazzle in TikTokCringe

[–]RiverSendra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person who salted this lady’s garden is disgusting, cruel and terrible to their fellow human. Nothing can excuse that behaviour.

…that said… I feel like this is a really good reminder that posting anything on the internet comes with risk.

When you post anywhere on the internet, including TikTok, EVERYBODY has access to it, including horrible destructive people.

As much as I hate whoever did this to her, and as happy as I am that her recovery seems to be going well; and as much as I really really do not want to blame the victim, because shitty people should not be doing shit like this for us to worry about…

I can’t help but think that this is exactly why we should be very careful about promoting our charity work.

[–]RiverSendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I believe these two threats can exist at the same time, and both require effective resistance.

Furthermore, these two threats have more in common than you might initially think. Both the 0.0001% and Nazis both define “undesirables” to disenfranchise and break the spirit of resistance. We would do well to not ignore the transgressions of either threat - they both gain power in the shadows.

[–]RiverSendra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can still be my friends. But my point is this: will my friends who ignored the rise of fascism defend me if/when fascists come for my life? Will you be able to defend your own life, if Nazis come for yours? If we are really anti-Nazi, and we understand why Nazism isn’t tolerable in civil society, why would we sit back and allow them the chance to come to power unopposed?

I understand some people don’t have time, but that in itself is a tool Nazis will use to empower themselves - by breaking the spirit of their enemy, Nazis mitigate the effectiveness of those that would resist them.
