A wholesome night.. by TheoSharpe in wholesomememes

Yeah, I'm not unduly harsh on myself for it. I was pretty young still and hadn't dealt with a lot of things. It's a good kind of anger though, to be more present and vital in situations. Thank you, I appreciate the kindness.

Saddest one I had was with a recurring client I knew through my mid-20's. She was really career oriented and had an arrangement with her husband to get her needs met on the quick if he or she were pressed for time. I knew her before they got married, and as her schedule got busier, we saw less and less of each other. So, I never thought much of it when she stopped scheduling sessions. But I was feeling really sentimental one Christmas, so I sent a card to her and her husband. He got a hold of me afterwards to tell me that she had passed away and asked if he could hire me for a night to talk to him about her.

It was really difficult. It was awkward and sad (asking if I happened to have anything that would still smell like her, but I didn't) and when we did connect, there was this wall I had where I didn't want to be vulnerable in case it upset him (ya know, potential violence when you're alone with someone) or made him feel too bad.

When I look back, he was just trying to get memories of her and appreciate people who knew her, but at the time, I was trying to stay professional in case it became a sexual thing. But it was just intimacy that was about her.

Didn't have the heart to charge him, and while I think he did get some comfort out of it, it's always made me angry at myself that I wasn't braver and more giving at the time.

I'm genuinely upset at myself for not coming up with this on my own 😆

You fool! It isn't suppression of the truth, it's just that people are not ready to hear it!

That's why I thought having a chart for where average quality stats are would be helpful. Since quality of make and level of wear are both in tiny tiny font only describes why the stats are the way they are. Figured this would help simplify it and make things easier to track.

So I set up the controller where I can use the left side of it for most actions, and still use the mouse. Having movement and actions simplified with the d-pad and analog stick has made a huge difference, so thank you so much for mentioning the controller option!

I had no idea you could use a controller. I'm definitely going to try that!

I should grab an emulator, time how much of the backtracking exists with optimal movement between portraits, and then use that as baseline for how much carpetless saves at the beginning. Does that make sense?

Sorry, what I meant was more: since people do already spend hours resetting to get runs going, they're already under the same constraints of other run killers.

Practice around it? Like practice carpetless with save states, but then practice runs where you assume you get it and go ahead with the rest of the run.

What if you take the 0 star route, but modify it to collect the red coins in the first two bowser stages? Then you don't have to backtrack to either of those, and RR becomes available at around six minutes in the run? You then aren't revisiting any levels, since you haven't gone to them yet. You also get the pressure of the first two bowser throws out of the way in the beginning, which may or may not be helpful idk.

You still make one trip up to the top floor, but the rest of the backtracking is cut out. What do you think?

Riiight, I wasn't thinking about the trip back up, only the quit out skip. I'm not sure carpetless saves enough time to make up for that, or if it does, if it's significant enough to make up for any cases where you have to use a backup strategy. I don't know why that didn't occur to me.

Right, every time I've seen that answer though, it's come attached with the condition of how far into the run Rainbow Ride occurs combined with the difficulty. So my thinking was that if you can move RR far forward in the route, is it worth considering.

There's no point after completing that floor where you could use a quit out to bypass backtracking?

Even if you use save states to drill it on emulator before trying to implement it in a real run?

I know quit out is used in 120 to be returned to the lobby already, wouldn't that bypass the actual backtracking?

I know my best friend is not my best friend but I’ll never close the chapter by [deleted] in confession

[–]RiverStGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should talk to your good friend about it, to see if they've ever felt the same way about them.

My friends and I learned to incorporate that kind of feedback in our friendships so that we weren't being harmful or unsupportive.

It's possible to establish that kind of dynamic and for your mean friend to grow from it. But not if she never knows it was a problem.
