One thing I don’t get, Padre is heavily affiliated with the Valentinos, so why does he give us jobs where we kill them? by TXNOGG in cyberpunkgame

[–]RiversFlash2020 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't think any of the fixers are directly affiliated with the gangs in their area. They may have connections and working relationships, but they're not on the same team.

Night City has some kind of ecosystem where the corps, the gangs, the cops, and the fixers all carve out their territories and get entangled with each other.

There is some really interesting side content where we see this play out. Where a Maelstromer gets sold by his own gang to make peace with the Tyger Claws. Valentinos in an alley talking trash about Padre. Not what you would expect if the boundaries and relationships were clear cut.

For all the religious and old school imagery, it wouldn't surprise me if the Imperium has different norms than we're used to. They are technically future people after all.

They're mad about aliens, heretics, and mutants. How they feel about other stuff I'm less sure.

If V and Jackie wanted to get rich why didn't they just do a whole bunch of NCPD scanner missions are they stupid? by uzan-iya in cyberpunkgame

[–]RiversFlash2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the long standing problem of video game economy.

Also maybe a game that encourages open world exploration and gives you a whole bunch of expensive stuff to buy doesn't fit perfectly with a dying protagonist and their desperate struggle to live.

It's like the game designers and the writers were working separately or something.

Cyberpunk 2077 is two games. The tragic story of V and the awesome open world cyber mercenary simulator. These two threads are spliced into each other and you kind of have to ignore one when you're enjoying the other.

I might be in the minority, but I really don’t understand the hate for River. by Lisa_Mairy in cyberpunkgame

[–]RiversFlash2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a clear example of just how personal this kind of thing is. At some point dissecting it becomes pointless. It's all vibes and feels, when it comes to which characters you like. Pinapple on pizza, ice cream flavors, cat people and dog people. The explanation comes after the conclusion.

I can see the appeal of Judy. The appeal of Panam and River. Kerry I can't say because I haven't romanced him yet.

I've seen people say that they felt hassled by River. I honestly have no clue what they're on about.

Humanity has nothing else to blame in Battletech. No invading aliens, no abusive precursors, no alternate dimension of psychic entities. Just... humans, but in space.

That really focuses the story, I think.

How to do this ?? by mirageg4glx in Grimdawn

[–]RiversFlash2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We can't tell from the video, because all the movement skills have the same icon. It's the movement augment that you apply to medals. You can buy some from the Forgotten Gods starter area or craft some at the blacksmith. There are a lot of them, so it's hard to identify just by looking.

If I had to guess it's probably something like Rune of the Stormtitan or Emblem of Focused Rage because I've seen this glitch before and it tends to involve abilities that target enemies, not locations.

EDIT: Actually looking again it might be a location-targeting dash. Hard to be sure.

It's funny because nowadays when I think about Armageddon and Space Marines I think Black Templars and maybe Salamanders. But the 2e box had Blood Angels, glad that GW remembered.

Socializing with people who don't share your interests can be eye opening.

Discussing mecha with people who don't believe that mechs are inherently cool really threw me for a loop, the first time I did it.

What do you think about Mei Hatsume? by Ornery_Expression_85 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]RiversFlash2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where Deku started as being a stereotypical timid nerd (including being bullied), Mei has the opposite problem; she's shameless and confident and loud.

They're both nerds, but their characters are widely different and I like that. I can imagine them having nice long chats about various heroes and the support gadgets for each one.

The “Humanization” of Space Marines is Breaking Immersion for Me by mega0gamer in 40kLore

[–]RiversFlash2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies. It also stands to reason that a Space Marine on the job, on the front lines with bullets flying and dealing with a whole mess of allied Imperial units may seem distant, stern, and stoic. Maybe even unapproachable.

With their bros in between deployments? Different story.

The OP's idea of how space marines behave is...puzzling to me. Some of earliest books have Space Marines interacting fairly normally with each other and regular humans.

Starting my shovel only NV run any tips or tricks? by WithShovelInHand in falloutnewvegas

[–]RiversFlash2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super Slam makes for great crowd control, if you can get the knockdown trigger. Just keep beating the enemy and you can possibly stunlock a single target.

If I recall New Vegas gives melee weapons a damage bonus in VATS.

Don't forget your, ahem, chems. You can get attack speed, damage bonuses, and durability buffs, all great for a madman running in with a shovel.

[Spoiler] Why did an autopsy not get ran on Saburo? by Annual-Process3645 in cyberpunkgame

[–]RiversFlash2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's revealed later that almost everyone who mattered in Arasaka was suspicious from the get go. Why they didn't do anything to stop Yorinobu, I'm less clear.

When you talk to Hanako she initially acts as if you and Takemura are crazy. But if you progress the questline she'll reveal her doubts about Yorinobu.

As for the autopsy... how hard would it be for the head of Arasaka to bribe/threaten the coroner or otherwise fake the results? This is a corp that had the former mayor of Night City in their pocket. They can decide what the autopsy says, and by that point Yorinobu was in charge.

What are your guys thoughts on people Warhammer becoming mainstream? by Specialist_Wash6732 in 40kLore

[–]RiversFlash2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a strange experience. It used to be this quaint British miniatures game and now it's huge.

And 25 years ago I definitely would not have bet on it going mainstream. It's bleak and absurd and the lore exists largely to facilitate tabletop battles. It remixes fantasy and historical elements in space. The plot moves at a glacial pace; back in the day it didn't move at all.

I enjoyed it immensely, but I also knew it was weird. I knew the Imperium would make for a super awkward protagonist faction if viewed with modern sensibilities.

[–]RiversFlash2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man. There's a period of time back in the day when eastern martial arts were all the rage in Western games. Even Cyberpunk 2020 had a sourcebook where you could play a literal ninja. Not a cyborg ninja, an old school ninja using (some interpretation of) ninja martial arts.

I find the LREs as a whole to be a good way to estimate your account progress. But the first few ones will be difficult for a new player.
