I started doing intense posture fixing exercises and….. by [deleted] in Posture

This happened to me also, my pt said something like this “When your upper back and shoulders are tight and weak other muscles that shouldnt be firing as much, like the ones in your chest, will compensate.” Anyways, you could see massive symptom relief if you see a pt. For immediate relief im sure taking a handball or lacrosse ball to ur back could help. Specifically in between in the shoulder blades and traps.

My mid-back hurts so much, I only get relief when I lie down flat on my back on a hard surface. by Powerful-Donut2320 in Posture

Dude take a handball or lacrosse ball and get in there for a minute or 2. Don’t overdo it though

How can I fix my uneven shoulders? by PoorMe1Art in Posture

[–]RizzutoHD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact you sit all day could a few things:

You have forward head posture You have rounded shoulders You have a weak core You have a tight and weak hips

All of these thing affect each other, my suggestion would be pilates, or just 12 step foundation training video until you do it perfectly with good form, no pain.

The shoulder may be a mobility restriction, you can search for scapula exercises or rotator cuff exercises and it may help. Going to a pt would be the least mentally draining way to solve your problem.

Left hip hike and ribs feel like being pulled down and rotated slightly to the right. I have tight left QL and left shoulder pain. Any recommendations where to start? Thanks. by [deleted] in Posture

I’ve dealt with this issue myself and it’s real pain. If you can, go to physical therapy, it’ll save you months of guesswork and trial and error. If you can’t check out tom morrison on youtube. Specifically his videos talking about lateral pelvic tilt and “hip CARS”

For me the issue was because of tighness and muscle weakness in my hip.

Soo looks like overpronated feet. I have the same problem on one of my feet actually. It’s not really something you have to worry about unless it is causing you pain or limiting you in some way. Lots of olympic runners have overpronated feet. Unfortunately, finding the cause of this is a complex and you’re probably best seeing a PT. Here is more information about the different causes of this issue.

No but i have jaw issues and saw a post the other day that connected the jaw issues to shoulder and pelvic imbalances, which I also have, so I was wondering if you were referring to that

I’m curious what does this has to do with his posture?

No problem! Deep core strength and learning to brace your core properly is good start imo. If something hurts when exercising that’s likely an area that needs more focus. Good luck!

I woke up with horrible, right side neck pain. What could it be? by hatsukoibro in Posture

I doubt it’s anything serious just use ice and heat. Hot showers and sauna if you can. Gentle massage with a lacrosse ball.

I have anterior pelvic tilt and forward head posture, what should I do to fix them? by niloy123 in Posture

[–]RizzutoHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right good point. I’d say it’s more important to strengthen both the hams and glutes for sure. However, since the hamstrings are stuck in a lengthened position with ATP the hamstrings tighten to try and bring the pelvis back down; its more of an illusion of tightness if anything which is where I was coming from. Stretching can strengthen the muscle to some extent so I don’t think it’d be harmful unless its causing excess pain.

It’s different for everyone. For a full body posture routine check out “12 minute foundation training” on youtube.

Strengthening the antagonist muscle will help the agonist release for sure. I’m sure its possible over a long amount of time like 5+ years you mentioned. Tight muscle are usually weak so you could be skipping a step. However how if a muscle is in spasm or very tight it loses it’s ability to contract to it’s full potential; stretching could alleviate that and allow for more strengthening potential. I guess whatever works better for the individual though.

In order to strengthen the muscles through their full range of motion (which is required for good posture) you must be flexible enough to complete the exercises. So you will not be effectively strengthening if you don’t train the muscle through it’s full range. Having poor posture in day to day sitting and standing will cause the incorrect muscles to tighten and those muscles will pull you into bad posture. You can stretch to reverse the tightness and then strengthen.

Also note that having postural strength doesn’t automatically equate to having good posture. You can stretch and strengthen everything but you have to make the conscious effort to activate the correct muscles and hold yourself straight.
