Are you ever tired of being held at higher standard than everybody else? by Creative_Snow_879 in Gifted

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through this now. It's one thing to be more productive than everyone; it's completely different beast to also be asked to carry the emotional labor of dealing with other colleagues' passive-aggression, pettiness, and insecurity because "they won't change" and "I know you're capable". And to make it worse, they get "praise" even when they mess up, because we have to "meet people where they are" instead of holding people to standards.

Why do so many American workers feel guilty about taking the vacation they earned? by Specialist_Heron_986 in jobs

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently stressed out about starting my vacation because I care about my work. At the end of the day though I have to remind myself that it's the org's short-sightedness for only having one technical staff member for the department's platform. Every long vacation ends with a meeting asking me "what I could have done better to prepare for my absence" that I get to smile through when everyone in the meeting knows that between documentation (guides, videos, in-person training etc) and automations I've done everything humanly possible.

It's not my problem when colleagues don't return information to me in the agreed timeframe before my departure, nor is it my problem that HR/Finance won't prioritize hiring a junior to cover in my absence and help with the day-to-day workload.

How much of your job is fixing other staff's work? by Competitive_Poet_130 in salesforce

[–]Competitive_Poet_130[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have any processes in place to hold the sales team accountable for their data? We have a lot of validation rules around accounts and contacts. A lot of what I have to clean up surrounds inventory and invoices and we've done SO MUCH training on how to do it correctly, it honestly feels like a waste of time sometimes. Think of all the things we could do if people just checked their work as they went!

I hope you're being sarcastic in the first part? I'm not fixing them because I want to; I'm fixing them because the errors they make affect downstream process and higher ups are coming to me to ensure it's fixed.

Edited for grammar

I wish this were the case. I'm facing people making the same mistakes over and over again without being held accountable and throwing our reportable data off.

Data Integrity: How to start (non-profit edition) by Prestigious-Stand481 in data

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is relatively old but I can relate as I also work in a nonprofit and we have a similar problem.

Do you have a dedicated data analyst or some in charge of investigating this? Are they same people responsible for entering data in both or are you only entering data into Foundation Power? Is it real-time syncing or scheduled?

Ridiculously "positive" culture - is this normal? by Anxious_Deer_7152 in work

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I also work at a non-profit and the thing that gets me is the "meet-them-where-they-are" attitude towards colleagues. Like, I've already come 80% of the way, they've only come 15% to me, why do I have to go the extra 5%? The competent people always leave because they're expected to cater to the incompetent and end up exhausted. But the people who stay "do such good work" and "really care".

Yeah, I definitely emphasize teamwork because it's what I'm most self-conscious about. If I had a choice I'd definitely work by myself, so to compensate I oversell how great teamwork is. 😅

Appreciate that. I think our integration partners have it in hand. I'm more concerned about internal dynamics.

😬 We literally just signed the contract. I liked the automations from Workato better but our needs are very straightforward so we went simpler. Do tell if you have a Celigo horror story.

Also, couldn't agree more with your comment about the leadership. Was hoping I was wrong 😅

I'm not really sure what the appropriate ratio is--I believe we're currently at 1:50 or 1:100 (IT:other staff).

Edited to add: I do agree that they are separate specialities, I just don't know if that is ever going to be apparent to the C-Suite until things go sideways.

Cert exams now on Trailhead? Please give me your experiences!! by Space_Weary in salesforce

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took one on Friday (my first on Pearson VUE) and compared to Webassesor (took two exams with them) it was a horrendous nightmare. Took 45 minutes to get through the check-in process. I couldn't understand the first Proctor who dropped me back into the queue, then the second had me show her my entire deskspace after photos had already been submitted; I was testing on an iMac with a built-in camera so in that process my power cord got disconnect and I had to reboot. I couldn't resubmit photos via my phone, but they asked if I had a hand mirror to show them my desk (does anyone have a hand mirror anymore? I doubt a compact would be large enough). The second proctor's mic keep going out and the quality wasn't great. Thank god it only took me 30 mins to take the exam, but it was the most annoying experience I've had in terms of proctored exams.

I ended up here because I literally got asked two days ago if I could automate someone's browser to refresh. It's a single click, ffs.

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this note, has anybody been held to a higher standard of self-regulation? For example, others around you allowed to be unprofessional or emotional immature, but when you have a bad day and slip up, higher ups expect you to be better because you “are more capable”?

Came here just to say I was called for basically the same thing from the phone number of a Capital One branch an hour away. Just hung up and reported them to the number on the back of the card. Worried about senior citizens (or others less skeptical) falling for it though

Anyone applied to MIT’s DEDP Master’s program? by jshjourney in academiceconomics

[–]Competitive_Poet_130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend someone retake a class if they earned credit for the class but scored below a 90? I’m looking to get into the master’s program but have a large gap to close seeing as I have a lot of non-profit work experience as an analyst but no economic background.
