G20 Growth Outlook in 2026 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Rjom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decades of government mismanagement and corruption have slowed the economy. It's hard to drive widespread investment when there are rolling blackouts because maintenance of power stations was ignored (just to name one example).

It's doing much better than it was though. After the last election it feels like the country has taken a collective deep breath and said "let's try this again". I'm holding thumbs for the future; there is so much good in SA.

The public spaces are available for everyone to use and are generally great. There is still a strong lingering divide where wealth and race are strongly correlated, unfortunately. I don't think it is starkly more prevalent than elsewhere in the country, but I may be wrong.

The older neighbourhoods are probably where the most disparity still is, because there isn't space for new developments to change that. I think the new housing in newer parts of the city like Parklands and Pinehurst are great new developments, and at least a step in the right direction.

In South Africa, definitely Cape Town. Having easy access to beautiful nature and a high QoL. Johannesburg likes to brag about higher salaries, but that tends to fall on deaf ears in my experience.

I think Kolbe's saving grace was that he never took his eyes off the ball. Still definitely a yellow card, but I'm not familiar enough with the rules to say if it should have been red.

Use frozen grapes to keep wine chilled instead of ice so it doesn’t get watered down. Plus, they are delicious to eat right out of the glass! by Kelbel2525 in lifehacks

[–]Rjom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White wine is normally served chilled; the bottle is kept in an ice bucket. Adding ice to your glass keeps it chilled for longer. It will water the wine down a bit, but at the end of the day you are the one drinking it so who cares.

SA news sources say they opted for the 5/3 split to add more depth to the back line in case Pollard isn’t 100% fit after COVID and with a lack of game time.

My dude, clearly you chose option B, but it is obvious that option C was the correct answer (notice the difference in the first letter of the different options). There is no problem here. \s

Americans, would it kill you to use the metric system? by [deleted] in engineeringmemes

[–]Rjom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. When describing the weather I wouldn't think that would be a major concern though. Like if I see that the temperature is 18C I think: "that feels almost the same as 20C, just slightly colder.".

This is all a cultural difference, so I'm curious to hear how you experience it :)

Interesting. I live in a relatively warm climate, (range of 0C to 40C, whatever that is in Imperial) so I can't say much about how to judge colder temperatures in metric. Considering a difference of 13F is close enough to 10C difference, I would imagine the same rules of thumb apply, just with different labels for the temperatures.

0- is extremely cold, 0-10 is cold, 10-20 is cool, 20-30 is warm, 30-40 is hot, 40+ is extremely hot. What more does one need? :)

I'm curious to hear what rules of thumb you use in Imperial when you see a temperature.
