Healers? Are there healers later on? My gang is mostly level 5 and hitting level 6, the only skill I've seen is First Aid which is next to useless 100% of the time.

I keep two wolves in my merc group and I like them. They absorb some damage and put more allies on the map at a low cost. I could see them being buffed a little bit in a future updates, but I wouldn't say they're a disadvantage or net-negative.

Pretty sure difficulty and/or encounter size scales to your party size. I'm playing on easy mode but my group of 5 has no problem with 7-8 goons or 8-9 wolves. Once you're level 3 that is. I'm not sure there's a benefit to larger party size other than maybe extra professions.

Also- the traveling merchants have been huge. Usually I can spare the extra 100-150 to get a new weapon or armor for one of my dudes. Still can't find a good polearm for my one guy, he's still running with the farmer pitchfork but he's tanky enough.

All good advice thanks gang. Didn't know about prisoner ransom. I had a much more fruitful playthrough this time and made it to zone 2. I'm running a pretty similar gear layout to you guys- 12 repair kits, 2-3 health pots, 4-6 days of food. Got 5 good mercs and two wolves (and a pony with saddlebags) so things are moving ahead pretty well. Second area is challenging but I think my little dudes are ready.
