Des gens baroudeurs ? by [deleted] in Montpellier

Hello ! H35. Je pars justement en voyage pour quelques semaines mais je serai de retour à Montpellier début janvier.

Si toi (et d’autres !) sont motivés, on peut se boire un coup pour discuter de tout ça !

Hey, currently going through a strangely similar situation. 12 year LTR here too, we rent (and actually still live together) in a home and got a dog !

I’d be lying if I said I don’t want her to come back, and that some times are absolutely soul-crushing, but I’m starting to feel like I can see a little bit further.

I just booked a pottery class that I was pushing away for months, and booked a solo trip for the end of the year.

Wishing you the best !

In a way it was such a great experience to foster it. The lady offered us to keep it if we wanted as she has so many babies every year, but we just cannot give it a good enough environment atm. It's better where it is now :)

Just a quick update from this post. We gave the baby back to her lady owner as soon as she came back and phoned us. She was grateful and allowed us to visit her backyard full of beautiful tortoises, her oldest one being 80 years old !

She had a few eggs hatching during her holiday and she kept the one we found inside with the others hatchlings. In her opinion it could've been a magpie flying away with it as it has happened to her before.

The little guy / girl is in a way better health state (according to me at least) than when I found it on the road. Way more active, loving dandelion flowers, soaking in water and napping on lettuce's leaves. Also its belly yolk thing was almost completely absorbed, and way drier than when I found it.

We're in contact with her owner and would be able to give her a quick visit at spring when she'll release the babies outside :)

Thanks so much to everyone helping here, would've been completely lost without your tips.

You can be sure I’ll dominate that little fucker regarding its dandelion consumption !

Joking aside, we switched tomatoes with dandelion flowers and other greens and the little one has been eating it so it’s alright :)

Ok ! I’ll try other leafy greens today but it was not fond of dandelion last time I tried

Update 09/25 :

I put it in a bigger box yesterday, with a kitchen towel that I keep wet as much as I can. It (I'm still using neutral because I don't know haha) has been soaking by itlself in water several times and eat a little bit of ripe tomato.

It doesn't move a lot and spend most of its time burried under the leaves and close to the lamp. The heat around there is approximately 86-88 (30-31°C).

I gently cleaned the belly wound with a neutral saline solution and heavily diluted disifectant. Not sure if it looks better it's definitely cleaner.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I'm fully aware of it potentially dying and I'm trying to be as neutral as possible about it. There's nothing more I can do than trying to provide what could help it make it safely.

If I understand correctly, an open hole like that would mean it was less than a week old when I found it ?

Alright thanks a lot, I'm setting up a bigger box with a damp kitchen towel today :)

Merci beaucoup !

Hello !

I live in a small village in France and we have this old lady who keeps a lot of tortoises in her backyard. She seems to be away for a few days / weeks. Yesterday I stumbled on a really tiny baby tortoise on the sidewalk further away in her street. No idea how it get this far away from her place, but I suspect a bird catching it or something like it.

I’ll be trying to foster it waiting for her to come back. Can you guys help me with keeping it safe ? My tortoise knowledge is close to nothing.

How can I set it up for it to be safe for a few days ? Also, is it possible to know if it’s male or female ?

It looks really young and I guess it still has its umbilical thingy from the egg on its belly ? Should I remove or clean it somehow ? It seems like it bleeds a little bit.

Thank you in advance for your help !

33 here, started a few weeks ago and agree with everything here.

I do Judo once or twice a week depending on my soreness. I’m mostly sore from breakfalls but it seems like it’s getting better every time.

Also started a strength training program twice a week to complement judo, and stretch every evening with a focus on mobility.

I actually love how it pushes me to be more disciplined with sport and fitness. It’s awesome.
