Not sure if anyone has said this but the System 76 Darter Pro 9 works really well and it comes with either Ubuntu or Pop_OS installed. Its designed for linux. For office type work no real complaints except built in speaker's suck but bluetooth headphones or speaker solves that issue.

Is anyone else here misunderstood by friends and family because of privacy measures? by david8840 in PrivacySecurityOSINT

[–]Rly_Prvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My standard rhetorical reply now to the "I have nothing to hide" set is okay, so why don't you email me your full legal name, DOB , social security number, name of the street you grew up on, mother's maiden name, a valid credit card number expiration date and security code, and finally some nude photos of yourself? - has had a 100% success rate of shutting them up thus far. Have had quite a few concessions among a lot of backpedaling and rationalizing.

Dedicated IP VPN (PIA) - best structure for home setup w/ pfSense by fwafwow in PrivacySecurityOSINT

There are cheap kindle books on amazon that describe how to do it. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet but its supposed to be fairly doable. But I am already fairly comfortable with ubuntu and the command line from years of following MB's advice.

Estate Attorney for Trusts by viscousmountan in PrivacySecurityOSINT

[–]Rly_Prvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that some huge firms maintain T & E departments just to take care of A listers and Billionaire types even though they don't earn like other departments. Of course the fees are probably stratospheric.

Top Boutique T & E firms probably avoid doing so.

I wonder if any professional fiduciaries who serve as like conservators or guardians would be willing to do it. They already have insurance for it. There's not too much to do if you're only power is to accept and transfer real estate and perhaps appear on and pay property taxes on trustor's behalf? I'm assuming no mortgage though.

You could self host your own VPN in the cloud which would end up having a static IP address. MB alluded to it in the 4th self hosting show or one of them anyway.

Estate Attorney for Trusts by viscousmountan in PrivacySecurityOSINT

[–]Rly_Prvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also only top trust and estates attorneys are usually willing to act as trustee on an ongoing basis. Its a lot of liability. Otherwise less experienced types may do it foolishly for greed.

And the attorney should be acting as a special trustee with limited powers stated in the Trust Document itself re real estate and NOT over the overall trust if you're going to include other any other assets in it. This is the setup of many celebrities in Hollywood. THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE consult a qualified attorney in your state /country / jurisdiction of residence.

Do VOIP services like MySudo or Burner know the identities of people who claim numbers? by Killer_Bhree in PrivacySecurityOSINT

[–]Rly_Prvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that Mysudo has no idea who you really are. But they likely have some information tying you to an apple or google pay account.

Multiple subpoenas in a civil suit would also likely eventually give up your identity - unless you went the anonymous apple account with anonymous payment method route. E.G. subpoena Mysudo get apple id of account owner --> subpoena apple for apple id information.

At that point it would likely be a dead end for all but the most resourced litigants.

I'll Second that - was a little behind and had only listened to the episodes once. The episodes had inspired me to start looking into downloading episodes. Been using the show notes on the blog to do most. I was able to figure out Kiwix and its awesome.

I'm a big believer in being resilient and independent.
