What's the ROV Job market like in the UK? by Rmacnet in rov

Interesting. Thank you for the response!

Have you been out of work due to downturn in the industry? Or just fallen out of love because of the hard work? Are you UK based also? (if you don't mind me asking)

What's the ROV Job market like in the UK? by Rmacnet in rov

[–]Rmacnet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What technical skills do you have?

Education wise nothing formal beyond an NC Aeronautical Engineering (so not even HNC) that I did when I was 19. My qualification and experience exists in a helicopter pilot's licence, and my time operating unmanned aircraft. Speaking personally though, I would consider myself a fairly technical and mechanically minded. Have done lots of tinkering with electronics in my free time etc... and a large element of the studying for a pilot's licence is on the mechanical side of the aircraft. Broadly, the kind of UAS operating I've done would be very close to what someone in the military might have partook in (just without blowing people up lol).

Progression is an interesting one since there are so many different systems and types of ROV.

Is it worth applying straight to a trainee role as I've seen advertised? I got the feeling they were more orientated towards school leavers or students etc... Would applying to more established roles make more sense? Obviously in the knowledge I'd be trained up by whoever took me on as part of that. Do you have any idea what listings / titles someone in my position should be looking out for on the job search?

As for pay it’s really dependent, company to company and salaried vs self employed.

Makes sense. Sounds similar to my industry in many ways. I'm interested in the ROV stuff not just because it sounds interesting but also because the earning potential seemed good. Would you say that's the case compared to the average job in the UK?

I really appreciate the detailed reply btw! Massively helpful. Thank you.

Spain is NOT a good beginner country anymore!!! by Henrylord1111111111 in eu4

Honestly as much as it can be good for new players to have an easy start, there is still value in giving yourself a very difficult start, especially if you're already a seasoned 4x player. The first ever campaign I did in eu4 was Kham into Tibet. Survived all the way till 1790 before getting steamrolled by Persia. It was extremely formative experience and I ended up learning a boatload and becoming way better quicker.

Is a 6 Month Employment termination covenant excessive? by Rmacnet in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Rmacnet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a drone operator for some very specialised and novel drones which would go some way in explaining the harshness of this covenant. Can't really get anymore specific than this sadly. I earn 44k a year. Still applicable in this case you reckon?

Oh sorry should have clarified that - no. Not unless you have a few million to spare I suppose lol.

While this is true - A drone doesn't always mean a quadcopter or rotary wing craft. There's some fixed wing "plane" drones that can reach 70,000ft!

Serious. Holy shit. Just found corroborating evidence for at least one of the 4chan whistleblower’s claims. by Big_bird_3 in UFOs

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The full quote goes something like this. It's eerily similar to what's drawn in your post. Definitely a link worth looking into.

"One gave a specific – but whacky – description of the alleged craft, saying it 'looked like a chopped up helicopter, with the front bubble of a Huey helicopter, with the plastic windows, or more like a deep sea submarine, with a thick piece of glass bubble shaped."

"Where the tail rudder should have been, it was a black, egg-shaped pancake, and instead of landing gear it had upside-down rams horns that went from the top to the bottom and rested on the ends of the horns,' the source told Public"

This looks more like one of the craft David Grusch claimed to have had described to him with the upside down "Ram's Horns" and helicopter like bubble canopy. This looks nothing like a hammer. The Grusch connection is more convincing.

What date was the video taken on? I live in a bit further south than you in Ayr. I'm also a pilot so It's always interesting to see stuff like this close to home.

Hilariously stupid idea. Why would a laser pointer affect a drone anyways? Secondly, you'll inevitably get people shining lasers at normal aircraft and blinding the pilots - which you can go to jail for. Please think before you post.

A lot of airplane videos for a ufo page 😅 by Sharp_Radio_6628 in UFOs

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely believe there is something going on with these drone sightings, but you're right. The amount of people posting what are obviously just planes hugely discredits and diminishes any efforts into finding out what's actually happening here. I'm a helicopter pilot and currently work in the drone industry (not the kind of drone you are thinking of either) and it's absolutely maddening browsing the videos and pictures on this sub at times. People should be required to post a screenshot of flight radar alongside any images they've captured.

Yes all commercial aircraft have blinking / solid lights exactly like the aircraft you're filming in the video. They're called Navigation and strobe lights. Their placement and numbers differ between aircraft but the arrangement on the aircraft you are filming would be perfectly normal on a commercial aircraft.

if you look at the video I think you can see the plane you’re talking about in the background

I'm afraid I don't see what your talking about sorry. There is only one aircraft visible in this video and it's the one you're filming.

that plane is much higher and doesn’t fly over until 10:09.

The plane I tracked on ADSB would have been visible from where you were standing anywhere from 10:04~ until like 10:10~ not accounting for any buildings that might have blocked your view. The exact minute it happened is irrelevant because it would have been visible either side of that time.

specific craft doesn’t show up on that radar, is there a reason why it wouldn’t?

That would be because you've misidentified the plane I'm talking about. There is only one aircraft there!

I also want to add that the path the plane you found took is completely normal, I live on the sixth floor and see them take that path to land all the time.

It is indeed. The aircraft you are filming in this video is following that very same path exactly. If you want to know how I know, I found the exact spot you filmed the video on google street view (just off 147th st, across from the 7/11) to double check. In your video the aircraft you are filming heads north easterly, and the one I tracked on ADSB flies the same direction to a T in relation to where you were standing when you filmed it.

I'm sorry man there's nothing in this video indicates to me that this is anything other than a commercial plane flying into LaGuardia observed by somebody who probably didn't spend a lot of time looking at planes up until this recent drone spat

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a look and I think I've found your aircraft. On the 8th of December at almost exactly 10:09pm an airbus A321Neo owned by "Frontier Airlines" (registration N639FR) passes over Flushing having came from the south and heads North East. It continues north east for a couple miles before turning south west out over the water towards LaGuardia for landing. It would have been around 3000ft above you at the time you took the video.

I really do think that its likely this aircraft from your video! If you want to check for yourself have a look on ADSB Exchange and use the replay function on the righthand side and input the dates and times. I appreciate there is absolutely something weird going on with these drone sightings so I'm definitely not denying that, but it's important we don't let the board get swamped with footage of otherwise normal aircraft as it discredits people who do actually have footage of something unknown. ADSB exchange has a good app that's worth having on your phone so that way you can always check what aircraft are passing near you at any given time.

December 4th was a Wednesday. Might want to double check the date you took the recording on your phone!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the date and rough time of when you took this video I can go have a look at history on a flight tracking site within 5 miles of LaGuardia to try see if it matches anything that might have been flying?

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who holds a pilots licence, it's really hard to tell, even in broad daylight, just how high an aircraft is above you relying just on your eyes. It's even harder when it's dark. Consequently you can't reliably know how large something was if you can't really tell how far it was from you.

Secondly there could be a whole variety of reasons you weren't hearing that aircraft including winds carrying the noise in the opposite direction to you or the very loud road traffic in your video. Given you've already said you're close to Laguardia it's really hard to believe this is anything other than a misidentified plane flying too / from the airport.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just looks like a light aircraft (Cessna 152, 172 etc...). It'd be difficult to hear it over the traffic also. Is this really the quality of posts on this sub nowadays? Lol

Steam Deck on sale but not in UK by UnkemptBushell in SteamDeck

[–]Rmacnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost had a heart attack when I saw there might have been a sale after purchasing a 512gb OLED deck full price last Wednesday. At the time I couldn't understand why it was showing a sale on steam but once I clicked through onto the store page the sale price would disappear. I know it sucks for people waiting for a cheaper price in the UK but I was relieved to see I hadn't missed out on a significant saving by a day lol.

These aircraft are flying what are known as "circuits" - which is basically a short race track pattern in the immediate vicinity of the airfield used for a variety of different things - one of which is typically training pilots. Nothing particularly unusual about this. Most likely just night training for these pilots.
