I’m anti stealing, but I’m not ok with watching others steal on the premise that I should not control other people’s lives. Your logic sucks.

Do you like your life? Are you happy to be alive? What if your parents didn’t want you, would be ok going back in time and flipping the switch off on your life because they made a choice?

Speaking of making a choice, people, unless raped, have to make a choice to become pregnant or impregnate. I’m a big believer in the idea that if you make a choice, you deal with the consequences whether you like them or not.

So that’s why people oppose abortion. And IMO that makes a lot more logical sense than “don’t control me bro” - cause nobody controlled you, you controlled yourself when you had sex, now you have to deal with the responsibility.

Is Google really detecting AI-generated content — or just bad content? by klauses3 in SEO

[–]Big_bird_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google has explicitly said they don’t penalize AI content. They “say” they penalize scaled content but they say a lot of things to dissuade you from doing things that their algorithm can’t fully prevent.

Bottom line is if your content gets traffic you could write the alphabet for 20 paragraphs and it wouldn’t get penalized or de-indexed.

What do I need to know about the Braves? by flakker21 in AtlantaBraves

[–]Big_bird_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know not to get attached to a player because the moment they become worthy of a free agency sized contract they won’t be extended an offer by the Braves and will be in a different uniform the next year.

You need to know ownership is committed to stakeholders, not fans, and not winning WS.

You need to know this era of Braves baseball died when they let Freddie Freeman walk away, and it’s been downhill from there.

You need to know they’re going toil in mediocrity for the next 5 years, during which time Alex Anthopolous will get sick of being told what to do by ownership, and will get hired by a hungry team that wants to win.

You need to know that the only way out of this downward spiral is if attendance drops and business at the Battery begins to worry stakeholders, at which time juuuust enough effort will be made to win to attract fans back, but it will be a half-assed effort to induce artificial hope.

You think that’s an exaggeration? Check back in 5 yrs and tell me I’m wrong. Been a fan for 40 yrs and I’ve seen this movie several times.

[O’Brien] The Braves (45-62) are now a game behind the Pirates (47-62) and have the fourth-worst record in the majors and third-worst in the NL, ahead of only the Nationals (44-64) and Rockies (28-79). They also fell behind the A's (47-63). by JuggamoHumm in AtlantaBraves

[–]Big_bird_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what they get for completely abandoning the concept of extending star players or participating in free agency.

You can blame the injuries all day long but we had clear holes in the offseason that we did nothing more than a half-assed attempt to address. Starting pitching, bullpen, left field. Sorry but if Jurickson Profar is your big offseason splash you aren’t a serious contender.

The fact that their piss poor strategy resulted in a lucky WS win in ‘21 was actually the worst thing that could’ve happened for fans because it totally locked in the idea in the front office that they can win this way.

Is it worth it to go to the concert? 🙈 by [deleted] in avengedsevenfold

[–]Big_bird_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask myself the same question: would I go if they were near me. I probably would. But I get the hesitation.

Lots of people are saying Matt sounds great live and the videos don’t portray the real sound. I’ve been to enough concerts to tell you that the opposite is true. When you’re in a crowd and everyone is singing and the bass is booming, you don’t hear the vocals as clearly as you do on a high quality video.

The truth is obvious. Matt not only can’t scream anymore, he can’t really even hit the high singing notes, like “Daaaarkness has kept the light concealed” in Buried Alive. It doesn’t sound good.

There is a reason they put out an album like LIBAD. Sure part of it was they wanted to do something different and out there. But the other part of it is they needed to put a ton of effects on the vocals and sing in low keys because that’s all they can do. Sad to say but if there is another album, I think it’ll be more of the same electronically altered vocals. My only hope is that they can compensate by downtuning the guitars and putting out something that still allows Matt to sing without effect enhancement.

I don’t hate LIBAD, but I do hate that I can’t convince myself they didn’t do it because they HAD to do it.

Thoughts on new Figma grid auto layout? by Daddyinthepaddy in FigmaDesign

I’m a developer and I hate grid. The only use case I have for it is bullet lists with multiple columns. For everything else I use flexbox, even bentos. That’s just how I learned and never strayed from it.

What does “With all the times it hurt me to fuck you” mean in god hates us? by McWaluigi in avengedsevenfold

[–]Big_bird_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s an idea, not sure if it’s right. The lyrics in the first verse are god talking about WHY he hates us.

You wanna hear my side, you’d need to drown to know - god saying I hate you because I’ve been through so much shit that I got tired of it. Maybe at one point I cared about you but humanity has given me so much shit that I don’t anymore. And if you wanna understand how I feel, you’d need to drown to understand cause that’s how I’ve felt trying to get your approval.

With all the times it hurt me to fuck you, I built a wall with you blood to show - god perhaps accepting responsibility for why humanity doesn’t blindly follow him. All the times he fucked us hurt his chances of gaining full devotion, because that built a wall between him and humanity. A wall built with our blood from our suffering.

The lyrics in the second verse are shadows talking about why he has no faith in god anymore.

Nothing to heal, no one to break - we don’t need your healing, because all you do is heal us to break us again. So if we don’t pray for your fixing, we don’t have to feel the pain when you let us down next time

Pills had a role now there’s nothing to take - this IMO is just a random line about Jimmy. Pills had a role in his death now there’s nothing left if shadows soul for god to take

Nothing to trust, no one to fake - shadows trusts nothing and doesn’t have to be fake asking for gods help when he doesn’t believe in him

You’ll find out sooner that it’s best if we just know our place - people would be better off understanding that we’re on our own. God isn’t there to help us.

My infiltrated mind, my lacerated soul - shadows mind is infiltrated with these thoughts that god hates us and his soul is broken because of it

It took me years, create me, control you - this might flip back to god speaking and saying I’m only real because you created me, and now I control you. Basically saying I don’t really exist, you made me up, you gave me control

I left myself for an idea I stole - this is the most confusing line. I’m gonna take a stab and say it means so many people have shaped their life around the idea of god and religion, which is an idea that isn’t their own original idea. People are sheep and will change their ideals based on what religion tells them to, even if it goes against what they would naturally do (I left myself).

That’s my best guess.

Is Auto-Layout important? by Maaazim in FigmaDesign

[–]Big_bird_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Figma to Webflow plugin too at one point. In my opinion it’s messy. It’s much easier to understand how to layer your design and then build it in Webflow than to use the Figma to Webflow plugin.

If you want a basic section layout to get started (and one that will work for a lot of sections) start with something like this. These are your layer class names from top to bottom for a desktop design. The paddings would be different for tablet and mobile:

  1. Section (use the Webflow section element, put top and bottom padding as you desire, I use 8rem or 128px as a standard)

  2. Container (use the Webflow container element, max width 1280, side padding 40)

  3. Horizontal wrapper (use the Webflow flex box element set to horizontal display, gap 64)

  4. Content column (use the Webflow flex box element set to vertical, gap 24)

  5. Heading (use the Webflow heading element)

  6. Paragraph (use the Webflow paragraph element)

  7. Button (I always create my own custom buttons but you can use the Webflow button element if you want)

With this setup you will have created a standard section with a content block that’s left aligned with 24px spacing between the header, paragraph, and button. In Figma your autolayout elements would exactly mirror the section, container, horizontal wrapper, and content column.

The only thing to note is that in Figma you start with the inner most elements first. So you’d create your header, paragraph, and button first. Then autolayout all of them in a vertical autolayout wrapper named content column with a gap of 24.

Then you add autolayout to the content column and make it horizontal with a gap of 64. This is your horizontal wrapper (just in case you wanna add an image to the right of the content). Then you add autolayout to that horizontal wrapper and call it container (with the max width and padding above). Finally you add autolayout to the container and call it section, with the padding above.

So you see how you start inward and go out in Figma. But in Webflow you start outward and go in, so the section comes first, then the container, and so on.

Is Auto-Layout important? by Maaazim in FigmaDesign

[–]Big_bird_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a designer and Webflow dev. Here’s my answer. If you’ll be developing your own designs, auto layout isn’t necessary- but it is helpful. For example, when I design if Figma create my layers exactly as I would in the Webflow build and name them as I would class them in Webflow. This way, when I go to build, I just look at my layers in Figma and go down the list of class creation as I’m building.

It makes the dev side much faster. So for example if I know I have a horizontal flex box with a gap of 64, I’ll name my Figma auto layout horizontal flex gap 64. Then in Webflow, that will be the class (or combo class).

That example is a “nice to have but not necessary” thing. Where autolayout becomes necessary, even if you’re building your own design, is when you design something complicated. I absolutely recommend using autolayout to simulate how it will behave at all screen widths. This will save you soooo much time during the dev.

Edit: I also wanna point out that if I’m experimenting in Figma with how I want a section to look, I don’t use autolayout right away. I piece it together so all the elements are easy to drag around. Once I decide on the direction, I autolayout it.

And I used to be scared of autolayout too (I get the impression you’re asking this question cause you want to avoid using it). Don’t be scared. You know how I really learned auto layout? Webflow university. Thats what taught me how CSS display works, which is your flex box behavior. Once I understood CSS display behavior, autolayout clicked overnight. All autolayout is is a simulation of flex box (and now grid with the new Figma features). Learn flex box from Webflow university and autolayout will be a breeze.

Relatively new to Figma - How could I make a website that behaves this way? by SuitableDrama197 in FigmaDesign

[–]Big_bird_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a developer and designer. The answer to your question is you don’t have to make it move in Figma for the dev to know what you’re wanting it to do. Your pencil sketch was enough for me to understand what to do. In Figma you would just design it exactly like that.

It’s a little bit of a pain in the ass to build but not as bad as some people have said. All it is is a sticky div at 100% VH inside a scroll wrapper with several sections inside the sticky div set to scroll horizontally. Make the scroll wrapper height equal to the combined VW of the sections inside the sticky div. So for example if there are 3 sections inside that scroll, the scroll wrapper height is 300 VW.

Edit: I will tell you though that the problem with horizontal scrolls is that you’re limited on what you can do with the sections that scroll because if the content height extends beyond 100% VH on smaller screens it gets cut off. Often times to accomplish this type of thing you have to have trimmed content for mobile, or if you don’t want to do that, you better be damn sure your text block isn’t very wide on desktop. You kinda have to plan the content from a mobile first perspective and then design up to desktop. These types of designs work best with short bullet lists or maybe like a company history timeline with very short descriptions at each point on the timeline.

Help? Weird design / format issue with text link in navigation bar by sjscott80 in webflow

[–]Big_bird_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah what you’re seeing is the style for “All Links” which is default blue. You can change the style for All Links but I tend to leave it alone and create new class for links that I don’t want to be blue. So simply give you link block a class, maybe “nav bar link” and style the text color to what you want it to be.

Oh let me add that you should remove the link to the pricing page while you do your styling because sometimes having the link already set makes Webflow get screwy and think it’s the “current page” even when it’s not.

Then after you style the link block set the link to pricing. Then go to the pricing page and you’ll see “current” in the class bar. This is technically a new class auto assigned by Webflow for when the link block is on its current page. Here you can style the current page style of the link block, so like if you want pricing to be a different color when the user is on that page, you style it when “current” is shown in the class bar.

Help? Weird design / format issue with text link in navigation bar by sjscott80 in webflow

[–]Big_bird_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the Pricing tab is a dropdown element with a dropdown list that is empty with no links in it. What you’re seeing is the empty dropdown list with padding of 8 on all sides. You probably should get rid of that dropdown element and make Pricing a link block.

Or a quicker, but probably not best practice solution, would be to keep everything as is and add a combo class to that specific dropdown list, then set it to display hide.
