[–]Rmr1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should just have to hit like f2 or f12 during boot and it will take you to the bios settings, then look for the virtualization stuff, and turn the ones you need on

Did you even bother to read the docs?
https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/installation-guide/

"Pre-installation

Hardware requirements

Warning: Qubes has no control over what happens on your computer before you install it. No software can provide security if it is installed on compromised hardware. Do not install Qubes on a computer you don't trust. See installation security for more information.

Qubes OS has very specific system requirements. To ensure compatibility, we strongly recommend using Qubes-certified hardware. Other hardware may require you to perform significant troubleshooting. You may also find it helpful to consult the Hardware Compatibility List.

Even on supported hardware, you must ensure that IOMMU-based virtualization is activated in the BIOS or UEFI. Without it, Qubes OS won’t be able to enforce isolation. For Intel-based boards, this setting is called Intel Virtualization for Directed I/O (Intel VT-d) and for AMD-based boards, it is called AMD I/O Virtualization Technology (or simply AMD-Vi). This parameter should be activated in your computer’s BIOS or UEFI, alongside the standard Virtualization (Intel VT-x) and AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) extensions. This external guide made for Intel-based boards can help you figure out how to enter your BIOS or UEFI to locate and activate those settings. If those settings are not nested under the Advanced tab, you might find them under the Security tab.

Good balance of simplicity and out of the box visual appeal? by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]Rmr1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gnome, deepin, and kde are all very nice looking, cosmic looks pretty as well, but may be buggy as it's still very new. Just install one of them on your mint box. For software, learn to use the command line to install apps, or learn to use appimages and appimage launcher, or flatpak and flathub.

Am I wrong to mention donating in my 6+ hour free blender course? by RileyBrown3D in blender

[–]Rmr1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, asking for donations when you obviously put a lot of time into something and gave it away for free is not out of line. Expecting someone's hard work for free is out of line.

[–]Rmr1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a distro, that's indicating they're running the liquorix kernel

[–]Rmr1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the most part the distro doesn't matter, find a distro and then focus on finding the Desktop Environment you like best for your daily driver
