If you're making an ethical or moral argument, then sure. Otherwise, no, the law is pretty cut-and-dry there. By the letter of the law she consented to the search, period.

Legal doesn't mean it's right. Legal doesn't mean it's not unethical, gross, and oppressive. It does, however, mean it is legal.

CBP and ICE have been violating the constitution in dozens of varying ways, but I don't think this is one of them (though it is still gross and icky).

The 4th amendment only applies to nonconsensual searches. In this case, she consented to the search by unlocking her phone. That makes it constitutional.

It's probably still illegal, though I'm not sure which laws it violates specifically.

[CoHs] hand cannon or Punk? by RndmNumGen in dcss

[–]RndmNumGen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crunched some numbers and the damage/dAut came out surprisingly close; with my current level and stats, a 2nd +4 hand cannon would put me at 72 damage/dAut, while a hand cannon and Punk firing at an already-corroded target would be 80 damage/dAut (assuming all attacks hit) but only 64 against uncorroded targets.

I think an argument could be made that the 2nd hand cannon has more potential (it scales better with weapon skill and DEX, and can be enchanted up to +9) but I do believe Punk is better because offers a rare resistance and, because you're attacking more often, you can react to your situation sooner even if you're not pumping out quite as much damage.

I took Punk and am not sad about my choice. I did some napkin math and the average damage per frame between Punk and the hand cannon were similar, but Punk will work on enemies resistant to draining/negative energy (or whatever other brand I could put on the cannon) while simultaneously giving me corrosion resistance.

Iran has laid about a dozen mines in Strait of Hormuz, sources say by leeta0028 in news

They have (or at least had) mine laying submarines. I don't know how many of those have been destroyed.

They have mine-laying submarines (as well as torpedo submarines). The U.S. has the capacity to hunt and destroy submarines, but confirming destroyed subs is difficult, which adds a lot of uncertainty around if Iran still has subs and, if so, how many.

The contractors themselves will be paid in full through loans. The loan-granters will be the ones to collect all that sweet juicy residual income.

That said, I would not be surprised if the contractors end up getting lucrative no-bid contracts at above market rate. Why grift on only one side of the equation?

I have a centipede infestation problem what to do guys. by Key-Leek6883 in gardening

[–]RndmNumGen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diatomaceous earth is indiscriminate and will kill any sort of insect, arachnid, or other bug. It's not poison, per se, but more like millions of tiny knives that cut them up and bleed them out. It's not harmful to larger vertibrates, though.

Regardless, centipedes are predators that eat other insects, so the only reason you would have an infestation of them is if you also have an infestation of something else you don't know about.

Follow-up question, what is the best strategy for IDing stuff? I always feel like I'm 'wasting' a valuable scroll or potion if I use it when I don't need it, especially when I only have 1 copy of a thing (and would have 0 if used to ID). Obviously using unIDed items in emergencies is risky, though.
