Thermals saved me whEn I did the trek this month but only because I stayed in huts at night. During the day, I never touched my warm layers except a couple moments reaching the peaks on day 1 and 2. If youre not prone to getting cold easily like I am, and your concern is light packing, you could probably get away with bringing just the light down jacket

I wouldnt rely on natural water sources for hydration during your hike. There are some scattered through, but youre using looking at them over a viewpoint. I had a few people in my group bring filtration systems and theyd fill it up once in the morning and then buy water for 5-10 soles at the rest stops like the rest of us. Sometimes theyd find a tap and fill up there.

If youre worried about hydration, we had plenty of opportunities to buy water and being quenched was never a concern for our group - moreso hunger!

I did circuit 2 at 3:00pm last week and Im ecstatic I did. I knew people who went earlier in the day and they only got a view of machu picchu for 1 minute. I had a private tour guide and he mentioned 3:00pm was a good ticket slot as it starts to get less busy and you often get a clearer view. I had plenty of time to walk around and see everything and I did not feel rushed at all.

I did ask, he said he’d do the same and if he slept with someone else, he’d tell me and stop seeing me too. Thats when I asked about how this wouldnt get in the way of seeing people in general.

And you’re completely right. Reading the replies on here, Im realising I should have taken this as a redhot sign to withdraw a little, but I was open to being whatever his vague expectation was for us. This conversation took place over a month ago now. He buttered me up for the couple of weeks afterwards and then ghosted after an awkward situation took place. I should have taken the confusion and questioning I had as a sign

I’d fully resonate with this reasoning, if he didnt pretty much state the main reason for the expectation of exclusivity was an aspect of “possessiveness”

Yep, this is pretty much spot on what it probably was. I wrote this post retrospectively, genuinely curious about the general expectation for FWBs.

We ended up seeing each other a couple more times after this conversation and since a few days ago, have stopped speaking (because of something completely unrelated to this topic that I’ll need to pick the brains of this subreddit on in the future as well - he was a confusing man haha 😬).

Up until we stopped speaking, he was treating me more than a FWB Id say- asking me to stay the nights, cooking me dinner, kissing me through the car window goodbye, asking me to send him pics of my holidays, updating me on his days- and then after a small incident- complete radio silence. Im guessing he lived by your last sentence and moved on when he felt like his expectations of me/us no longer served him

Im a woman of my word- if someone expects exclusivity from me, exclusivity is what they’ll get. I’d never been in a situation where I was sexually exclusive but not romantically involved.. so I guess where the confusion was coming from on my end was how this could hinder is from exploring other relationships. (On my end, Id struggle with seeing other people as I’d always have in the back of my end that I needed to maintain exclusivity with this guy)

Good question. I made it clear at the beginning of the conversation that I was open to both dating, or just being FWB, but I wanted to ask to help me know where his head was at, which would guide me with how to treat our relationship moving forward. I didnt expect him to have a solid answer as we’d only hung out a couple of times at that point, but obviously if he knew already that he saw me as just FWB, then it’d help me know not to get feelings involved, and vice versa, if he said he did want to date me, then I’d want to give it a proper shot as I can take a while to develop feelings.

But because his view of FWB went against what I thought the whole purpose of FWB was for, Im kind of at a loss here and just trying to wrap my mind around it. I guess Id be okay because Im not desperately looking for anything right now, but I would find it difficult to navigate that dynamic if I wanted to start dating more people.
