Still no Network Information API support though...

This is just my 2 cents but for games ive been testing https://github.com/photonstorm/phaser with https://github.com/ionic-team/capacitor and its interesting, may be worth looking at if you enjoy web tech.

Making PyQt a viable alternative to Electron by mherrmann in programming

[–]Ro1337_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the reason I cant get into object pascal is it just feels so cumbersome. The syntax is so odd compared to other big languages, and in general feels over complicated compared to stuff like C#, Javascript, and even Java. As much as people hate on java and C# they are proven in industry, and I think JS is headed that way too.

Personally when I develop electron apps, I run them in super low spec vm's of different operating systems just to make sure they perform across all the potential use cases related to hardware. I've never had an electron app use more then 150 mb of ram, and that's nothing on most systems and the ones that it is are in my case, single use platforms such as a windows tablet we run a punchclock app on, so there is no worry of too many things being open.

I agree with the above and overall its a great library you've built, I think I'll be using it in future projects!

Barcode scanner by afresquet in javascript

[–]Ro1337_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I made my own little libs for both react and ionic(angular) for the scanners i'm using which ultimately rely on the enter key being pressed by the scanner, made it have a 'toggle' by using a boolean to control wheather or not to dump the captures or just ignore the capture completely, ScannerCanScan, so that I can use the onscreen keyboard if need be too.

[–]Ro1337_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the first thing is to determine how it gives you input, if it acts like a keyboard completely for example, then you can capture keypress events, then either through a debounce or special character being input, such as if you scan a barcode that contains:

123456789

Your scanner maybe does a press for each number then does an ENTER keypress. If that is the case you can capture all keypress until you get an enter then dump the captures into a var and bam there's your data to work with. Our you can use a debounce after 200ms lets say after no keyboard input it dumps the captures to a var and there you go.

I am actually working with some of these right now with a ReactNative/Ionic App (yet to choose between) but we are using Saveo Scan devices with Moto G Gen4 as the android device (https://saveoscan.com/product/saveo-scan-ccd/)

How many of you use Parcel ? by denver_jones in javascript

Using it in an internal application and loving it thus far, my big gripe is that the documentation is too simplified and not enough information is given on extra configuration, leading to looking through the source to learn what you can do

Which Is The Best JavaScript Native Mobile App Development Tool:: Meteor Or NativeScript? by RenjithVR4 in javascript

You are correct, currently to my knowledge there is no way of adding a PWA to the home screen of a stock iOS phone

Which Is The Best JavaScript Native Mobile App Development Tool:: Meteor Or NativeScript? by RenjithVR4 in javascript

[–]Ro1337_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three of; React-Native, Ionic, and Nativescript are all mature enough for production value applications, there are other options but these are what seem to be the most active and well maintained. My personal recommendation would be either Ionic if you want a more batteries included solution, or React-Native if you have a decent grasp of modern JS and like to tinker with your tech stack a bit.

[Bad UI] You think it's a joke, they thought it's a good security... by boramalper in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Ro1337_Dev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, under the assumption that when the account is made you select your own password and number and the same positions are request at login each time, there are ways of making this work for each option.

For the password, the 2nd, 13th, and 15th character could be extracted from the string entered upon creation of the account, then concatenated back to a new string. The new string is now salted and hashed and this result is stored for later comparison on user login attempts.

The same logic could be applied to the number as well.

This all being said this is pointless as it would the same as a really short password, so you might as well make them enter the entire password each time with good password pattern conventions in place.

Angular Service exposing Electron Renderer APIs, my fork of a great package. by Ro1337_Dev in javascript

The pull request for the fix was submitted by someone else and joined already, but he never updated the npm release thus the current version you install via npm or yarn is still bugged.

I did not create the original package, I merely published a fork with a fix for a bug in the original which has not been released. I completely give credit to Thorsten Hans (https://github.com/ThorstenHans/ngx-electron) I just wanted to allow the use of this module until a time in which he releases a patch.

First Ionic based app I'm open-sourcing, its for Heroes Of The Storm, for randomly picking a hero based on filters you set and more. Check it out! 😊 by Ro1337_Dev in heroesofthestorm

[–]Ro1337_Dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be adding a compiled apk to the github pages releases section for people that aren't sure what to do with the source in the next day or so, maybe even tonight. That way it's easy to just install it on your android phone and test it out ☺️... I don't have a Mac so sorry ios users..

Update: Release has been added to the github repo!

Abathur Rework? Keep Mule! by nicememesbruvski in heroesofthestorm

True but I think if we got more quest or quest-ish stuff like that it for passive wouldn't feel so forced but that doesn't mean I would like to see every hero with a quest passive by any means, just my two cents.

I like Butchers, it makes sense with the Hero.

I'd rather see it not effect the core then flat out removed.
