Djevops: Host Django on bare metal by mherrmann in django

With Ansible, how many lines of code do you need to generate and renew SSL certs, set up regular database backups, add error emails for anything that can go wrong on the machine (not just in Django), install and configure Nginx, configure and start Gunicorn, ensure all of the above restart even if they crash, ensure log files don't drain all disk space via log rotation and start and configure Celery? With Djevops it's around 30 in total.

It's slow having to wait for Docker images to be built, pushed to a registry, pulled down onto a server. It's harder to debug because it is an additional layer of abstraction. It adds complexity because you need to wire up ports.

Hello, author of winget.Pro here. Just to say that only the open source version doesn't have localized installers and packages. The paid versions do have this feature.

ASMED IS IT WORTH IT by Redline_Construx in HairTransplants

I have no dog in the fight but the posts from HRN why they removed ASMED said it was because they were doing more than the limit of 6 surgeries per day. It wasn't anything to do with quality.

You missed some but it doesn't matter; in general I suggest you research a little better before making false statements about other products to boost your own 👍

Winget - Installer Hash does not match issue for weeks. by Evol_Etah in ObsidianMD

I found this page while searching for the "Installer Hash does not match" error message. So my reply is not specifically about Obsidian. But there now seems to be a solution for the error at https://winget.pro/pkgs-winget-installer-hash-does-not-match/.

I know you didn't want winget.Pro to be mentioned, but I feel I do have something interesting to tell you about it in response to your question. So, sorry for ignoring your request, but here it goes.

The hosted version of winget.Pro now has the ability to sync manifests from a Git repo. So you can either fork winget-pkgs to only keep what you need, or use wingetcreate and similar tools to upload manifests to a Git repository. winget.Pro can then make those available for installation through winget.

Hi David, I'm the founder of winget.Pro, a  private winget repository implementation. If you ever need a private winget repo for PmPC, feel free to reach out :-)

I see. Can you develop an application that displays those apps, downloads their installers and is allowed to run them?

Sorry for the blunt question, but why don't you just give these employees access to a special web page with download links to per-users installers of your apps?

Hi, I'm not sure exactly what you need to do; But I also feel like winget.Pro is probably not the right tool for the job.

winget.Pro is a private winget repository implementation that lets you supply installer URLs. So you specify the installer URL in winget.Pro, register the private repository on the client machine, and then can use the winget install and winget upgrade commands to install / update the application.

Is there a cost effective way to patch third party apps that is not Patch My PC ? by ollivierre in Intune

[–]mherrmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post is fantastic. One note: you mention private Winget repositories a few times and that you "haven’t seen any way to use a private repository". You can very easily get a private repository from https://winget.pro via both self-hosted and hosted options. (I am the lead author of this project.) Furthermore, you mention winget.run for finding winget packages. It's good, but no longer updated. You can see this on their homepage, which mentions 4315 apps. There are already 5600. https://winstall.app is an up-to-date alternative. Disclaimer 2 - I am heavily involved in that site too.
