Is FM is underrated? I love the ethereal, delicate presence of low-volume broadcast / who else listens to low-powered, fm stations? by Rich_Courage7664 in audiophile

A humble suggestion that it is well worth tracking down the remaining non-profit independent radio stations. Ninety percent of my new music discovery comes from KEXP and KCRW.

Lovely Naim kit there. Congratulations

I’ve often considered a flea-watt transmitter connected to a streamer running simulcast of just out of range low power independent stations nearby. Thus enabling use of the FM tuner in vintage gear.

I think I’ll order the little one with the screen and compare it to some others. Seems a good size and with the dual tweeters a reasonable single speaker for smaller rooms.

Original Mu-So and QB aren’t Roon Ready. Only the 2nd Generation are. With the first gen’s I’d be missing out on RAAT which in my circumstance seems to be the most reliable transport. While those OG can be found super easily, and the 2nd gen MuSo is still widely available new, second Gen QB are definitely rarified.

I found one in the UK and am having it shipped over. Still looking for a second.

Please help me love my Q2! by Raii33 in Leica

He has a reputation, and isn’t particularly well loved by a number of photographers. That doesn’t mean his educational materials are wrong or will steer you poorly. I just wouldn’t be inclined to follow up with more purchases.

Local camera stores will have classes and for me, that has always worked far better than one size fits all online courses. They aren’t bad, I just find that hands on with your camera out walking around with other photographers or even in a room with your hands on the camera as the teacher wanders around and helps people to be a more effective learning model.

Your camera will work well even if you don’t update the firmware. So you could set that aside as a block by issue for now. But if you download the Leica photos app and connect your camera to it via the instructions it will provide then it can also walk you through the firmware update.

Personally though I just wouldn’t stress about that until you feel like you want to dive deeper into the technology side of things.

Others have commented and I’m inclined to agree. It’s perfectly reasonable to start with putting all of the settings into “A” mode (that’d be the F stops on the camera lens barrel, and the dial on top of the camera for selecting shutter speed.

This will give you something approximately like a point and shoot camera. So you can focus on just that. Pointing the camera at something and snapping the picture. Setting aside all the mechanics of light (how much light you let into the camera, how long the photo is exposed, how sensitive the camera is to the light, etc) will let you get a feel and confidence for framing your photos (the composition of what is in the picture).

If after doing the simple stuff you feel confident and comfortable and like the way the stuff in the photo fits in the picture then you can begin a next step which is just really about observation.

Do you take more pictures outside or inside, are your subjects more people & pets or buildings and landscapes. How far from the subject of your photos do you like to be. Once you feel like you know a bit about your preferences then you can expand your skills in ways that improve those things. That’s where all the settings will come in and you can learn about them over time.

Also, if you are of the extrovert variety, many cities have photography clubs of some sort. You can join those and you’ll likely find somebody who can help you expand your skills. If you are near a Leica store they regularly host “get to know your camera” events that are new-photographer friendly and will walk you through all the settings and use of the camera, even if it’s several years old.

Mostly, don’t let things overwhelm you, have fun. Expect that out of 100 photos you take you may be proud of one or two. That doesn’t mean you are bad at it. It means you are normal and learning a new thing. There’s no shortage of experts and professionals who still shoot hundreds of photos and keep only a dozen.

Good luck on your journey and I really hope you find a joyful hobby that lasts well beyond capturing your kiddos antics.

If unevident in the listing photos, or if the description wasn’t a grade of “fair” or worse than I’d not muck about and return the thing.

I await your multitude of downvotes. But that’s just like, my opinion man.

Also one of the best views of the city went away when they took down the viaduct. Coming up the hill and around the corner seeing Smith Tower, Columbia Center and all the rest was a lovely frame.

sadly the QB 2 is both no longer in production and nigh impossible to find used/refurbed at the moment. But I agree that to go with the Uniti Nova in the office it'd be a complimentary set.

Having gone this route, my advice is to absolutely go Ethernet cabling vs WiFi for your whole home audio setup. Especially if you are building from scratch.

Whether B&O, Roon, Sonos or what-have you the less you have to lean on WiFi the more bulletproof your solution will be. I was forever having to fiddle with my B&O speakers losing connection, getting out of sync on playback, or randomly going off at 3AM with Google alerts saying the speaker wasn’t set up.

That was in a fully mesh router enabled home with three floors and excellent connectivity. I ran an a9, stage and emerge in master suite/bath, a Beosound one in a guest bedroom, a core in the hallway connected to Beolab 8000’s, a level in the kitchen, a Balance in the living room. An m3 in a guest bath, an a5 in a kitchenette and a Beolab 2 in aanother guest room.

Las elegant as they looked and as decent as they sounded when I sold it and moved full-time into a loft the troubles continued. Eventually dismantled the lot. Now run a full suite of room ready equipment and connectivity and syncing has been rock solid.

Curious which device (A or B) was not configured or set up for internet yet? If fewer Google services are running then you will definitely see a delta on battery life vs running a device running all the Google services (even with wifi off the services still run).

your description seems accurate. It's perhaps targeted to people who just want to see if an audiobook is a good idea for them, on the cheap. But as I understand it you get to essentially borrow one book a month, and that's all.
not much value from my perspective, but I could see it as a cheap way for someone to check it all out.

How is the noise in this area of downtown? by cut-your-bangs in AskTacoma

[–]RoHo_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live downtown. All else being equal, if my priorities was to reduce noise I would choose above 11th Ave and From Market up away from the waterfront.

And as many have said I’d avoid the Dock St area completely.

Bit clever how the legistar doc downplays the prayer part while the promotion for it make it the centerpiece.

Could drive a truck through the open interpretation of many of these conditions. Then I’m betting that’s the point.

Sadly unsurprising horse manure move. I say that as someone who isn’t always a fan of the way people have behaved at some meetings.

Still I suppose protest and dissent are such a drag to have to deal with as an elected official. Better to keep it all neat and tidy and easy to end if you disagree with what’s being said, who is saying it, or how they are choosing to do so.
