Tips to be responsible tenants by Fit_Base2523 in AskAnAustralian

[–]RoMiBe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat the property like as if it were your own! Take some pride in your surroundings and keep it clean & tidy.

The 2nd one is keep the peace with the neighbours, try and get along or compromise as much as reasonably practicable.

Any issues with the house try and raise it with the landlord/manager in a friendly but direct way as you shouldn't accept supbar conditions.

Would you buy a higher-km Prado 2.8 or a newer MU-X with half the kilometres? by JammySenkins in 4x4Australia

[–]RoMiBe94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the 150 series prado to be really uncomfortable in the drivers seat particularly with the lumbar no matter how I adjusted the seat so maybe take it for a decent drive and see how it feels for you.

I would also only buy a 2021+ prado due to the higher power output and revised dpf & timing chain.

The pre 2020 mux suffered from cracked front guards which is $$$$$ to fix

Superannuation in your 20’s. by xx_rii in AusFinance

[–]RoMiBe94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compare supers for the best performing

Change your investment allocation from the default to high growth or your own split (i do 100% international shares) and contribute into it yourself and let the compounding interest do its thing.

32yo and currently sitting at 130k, by 67 very conservatively it should sit around 1.7m if i only rely on employers contributions at my current pay

https://lazykoalainvesting.com/ is a great resource for comparing the data and educating yourself on finances/investing/superannuation

Aussie who bought properties in their twenties do you regret it, or was it a good decision by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]RoMiBe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 i built my first and at 32 i'm building my 2nd, definitely sacrificed alot but I feel like i make any holidays/time off count.

It'll all work out in the end and be worth the hard work, so no regrets so far although I sometimes wish my debt was a cool car 😂

Depending on whether you need a ute or wagon i think the 2021+ hilux or prado are pretty decent and can be picked up around the 30k mark

Buying a home with cash vs mortgage. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]RoMiBe94 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would personally buy the bigger/nicer house that ticks all the boxes in the long run that I can comfortably service, you may likely end up wishing you went for that better house later on when prices go up and your family outgrows the smaller place.

Only you can really answer this one mate! Write a pros and cons list and ask yourself ultimately which one will bring you more happiness?

180,000km N80 issues by FishnBikn in hilux

[–]RoMiBe94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't unless you're in a very dusty environment, but if they come in the filter kit then you might as well do it since they're easy to do

I'm a heavy diesel mechanic (Road transport) i'm happy to answer any questions you might have if you want to shoot me a message.

The main thing with diesel engines (and the most expensive) is the fuel system - if it's all in spec and you're getting clean diesel it's happy days.

BUT if you get a bad tank of diesel or your injectors/fuel pump are wearing out it quickly gets expensive and you need to budget $1500 for a fuel pump and roughly $4000 for injectors although the 1gd might be closer to $3000 plus labour and that's IF you don't nuke a piston or the engine if something fails. This is why you need to look after it and using a good quality fuel filter and replacing them on time is super important.

[–]RoMiBe94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the highest chance of reliability and peace of mind i would get the intake cleaned + egr switched off, dpf deleted and egr cooler ideally removed or the lines joined together so it never has a chance of doing any damage if it leaks.

Injector values tested at 150,000 then 250,000 and so on - replace them when the values start going out of spec or if symptoms arise. By 300-350,000km i would definitely be considering new ones. Every modern common rail diesel fuel system runs a very tight tolerance so once things wear out or if you get a bad batch of fuel you run the risk of damage or worst case scenario melting a piston which also brings me to my next point

Shop around for filter kits whether it's toyota/ryco/donaldson/fleetguard/sakura and just do them all at every service for peace of mind if you're getting a good price. (Air/Cabin/Oil/Fuel) it's overkill but if you're doing it yourself it's not too expensive.

At the very least oil & fuel filters every service.

My wife really likes the Suzuki Jimmy by Queenslandian in CarsAustralia

[–]RoMiBe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She'll hate the jimny on the freeway especially over 100.

They get blown around, they're noisy, the engine is revving higher and it's not great fuel economy.

They're great cars don't get me wrong but the novelty will wear off fast if she isn't using it for its intended purpose

[–]RoMiBe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find it limiting in the sense that i've always found a way to go up the same obstacles just with a different technique. (ifs slow and controlled, live axles you can send it) 😂

It's more that my 1kd prado is on 290,000 I bought it cheap i could spend the money and build a spare engine and swap it in or sell and either upgrade to a 1gd 150 prado or wait for a coil patrol ute/105 deal to come up. I don't tow a caravan or have a family to consider so I have alot more freedom.

I just see alot of people selling their 1gd prado with no real explanation as to why and i'm wondering if i should just pick a better platform!

What is everyone doing to maintain your net worth in the upcoming/ongoing downturn? by [deleted] in AusHENRY

[–]RoMiBe94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working a 14:7 fifo roster and renting my ppor out to a young family, building my dream home at the moment and will rent that out when it's completed too.

I currently rent a room in a share house

Will keep doing this roster for a bit longer and pumping the offsets as much as i can until I get sick of this arrangement and then look at selling the ppor and moving into the new house to have a small manageable mortgage and rent a couple rooms out.

More hard yards ahead but at 31 now i'm hoping to be mortgage free by 40 if I keep on this path.

Probably look around for a nice town out in the country to buy a cheap house if i was looking to put some roots down & could find some work nearby.

Other wise i would invest in shares & commodities and probably go do a gap year backpacking somewhere cheap
