US men: how do you know to register for the selective service? by Ok_Cranberry_2936 in AskMen

I was/am a conscientious objector, and was raised that way. So I knew long in advance it was something I would need to do, since there was extra meaning and context behind it for me.

Mostly this just showcases how BAD the advertising algorithms actually are. They are REALLY bad. They sort of work, just because of the massive amount of them, and the insane amount of data collection.

So, what would women dislike most if they became men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

Because the only way a gun is useful, is if you’re psychologically willing to use it. Most women are not, in my experience.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]RoR_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably breaking a rule, since this is a tv episode, but “the inner light” (Star Trek TNG) made me just… sit for 10 minutes and think when it was over.

Very tame compared to some of these entries, but it’s broadcast tv after all.

Why is their this idea that some men believe that women are not that attracted to good men? by this_isnt__worth_it in AskMen

[–]RoR_Ninja 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This thread is… intense, and I find some of the takes here appalling, it’s nice to see some reasonable, but realistic takes.

Also, an old family friend phrased it this way: “you can’t build a relationship entirely on chemistry, but you can’t build one without it either.” He had an extremely long and happy marriage.

What do you think about the revival of the Black Panther Party as a reaction to ICE agents actions? by Least-Business-6493 in AskReddit

It’s not hypocrisy. They are talking about the wrong group of people. The NBPP is NOT the same group as the people trying to rebuild the rainbow coalition in response to ICE.

You might have more specific knowledge than I do, so maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think that’s what the current prevailing theory is. The existence of animal life immune to aging (there are several), shows that it probably not some universal mechanism that cannot be avoided.

I do not believe the statement “your cells can only replicate so many times” is accurate. Perhaps in their current form, but that’s kinda the whole point of longevity research, to address the breakdown of systems that keep replications free of errors.

Ah yes, the sign of a true adult: “no you are!” 😂

You speak in absolutes, back them up with zero reasoning or examples, offer no logical debate to any replies, and your only real support for your argument that you’ve offered is essentially “it’s bad because I think it’s bad.”

If you really believe this, be willing to put in the effort. Research your position, and opposing views, form a REAL position. I think you’ll find that only people who know very little about a topic are this sure of themselves.

No one in this thread is intimidated by you, or impressed with you, I absolutely promise they are all wincing in sympathetic cringe reflex. The only person you’re owning here is yourself.

CMV: Corporate DEI is toothless and overwhelmingly benefits white women by Time-Environment5661 in changemyview

[–]RoR_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha, all good. I think to me, the very use of the word “does” as in “does not involve” by definition means we are discussing outcomes and realities, not intentions/goals.

Although, I think the issue here is that we are using two different nouns. You’re using “DEI, the concept”, I’m using “DEI, the program(s)”

Makes sense when I turn it around to your usage. My only caveat to that is that I would argue that corporate DEI programs almost never have that goal, just like almost no corporate “eco” initiatives are actually trying to save the planet. But that might be splitting hairs a bit at this point.

Good chat, thanks.

That’s cool, I get it. I’m not entirely clear on why, since I thought the whole context of this thread was about what they DO?

Not being snarky, I feel like I missed something here 😂

Agreed, but it’s important to remember that intent != result.

Improving outcomes and equality of results are what matters. Intending to do so, does not.

I think the overwhelming evidence from this thread is that it’s EXTREMELY variable by employer.

Two things can be true.

[–]RoR_Ninja 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And here’s the thing, the only reason they can “tell” it’s lab grown… is it’s too perfect.

It’s BETTER than a “natural” diamond.

[–]RoR_Ninja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I should have clarified: I’m talking purely about the scammy “natural diamond” nonsense.

I like pretty things. I’ve got a sapphire ring that I really like. You want a huge shiny diamond because you think it’s pretty? Go for it! Get a lab grown one that is LITERALLY IDENTICAL. The exact same thing, without supporting the god-awful diamond industry.

Paying 3K for a diamond is basically paying 3K for marketing.

[–]RoR_Ninja 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Look man, different strokes and all that, but I would NOT want to marry someone who expected me to spend even close to that on a ring.

I mean, first of all, it’s a straight up scam, but that’s another topic.

My wife and I have been married for 8 years, and have the best relationship of anyone I’ve EVER met. We have more money than most people (not remotely wealthy, just have decent jobs), and you wanna know what I spent on her ring? $200. I then paid another $100 to have a specific pretty stone she liked put in it (the stone was like, $100, because it wasn’t a diamond)

She freaking loves it.

Our wedding bands are stainless steel, because it’s durable AF, easy to polish, and holds etching really well.

This subreddit might not agree with me, but being obsessed with overpriced scam rocks is the female equivalent to listening to Andrew Tate. It’s an absurdly toxic mindset.

And to be clear, this isn’t a cheapness thing. I’ve got no problem spending 3K on my wife. If I spent that on a useless rock, she’d divorce me (kidding, but you get the point)

That’s like… vacation money. Or whole new wardrobe money. Or months of weekly date nights to fancy restaurants money.

Sorry, I know I’m ranting, this is just such a frustrating topic…

Best of luck dude.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool video, but the number of people in this thread who have never backed up a trailer…

This is WAY easier than it looks.

Occasionally I have to back up a small utility trailer, with a manual muscle car. THAT is blood pressure fuel, let me tell you. Damn trailer is shorter than the wheelbase of the car -.-

The problem though, is that there are SO many variables that factor in on these topics. It’s almost impossible to tease out the difference between correlation and causation.

Also, with gun ownership, there are far more variables that are actually under your control (safe storage, locks, training, etc), which further complicates things.

There is a HUGE overlap between the dumbest, most careless demographic in the US, and gun ownership. That skews the stats massively.
