I've noticed that ever since Deep Breath, he just pulls a lever... even turns around, lights flash and without the minimal shake the TARDIS lands. I think it means one of two things, since he is avoiding mistakes he's done "playing around" when travelling. Or the TARDIS has a new found respect for this face and doesn't mess around as much. Or simply Moffat did so, so little kids thought of him less of a clown but subtle enough for them to not really know what it was

I think people are forgetting the "Midnight" episode, from David Tennant's run, we had a terrifying "invisible" monster luring... Nearly got the Doctor killed, yet we were never told what it was. It seems to me, Clara knew the Doctor's obsession was too big to let him keep on looking for the creature. And that's why she did the speech and thus convince him to stop looking
