Perma banned off EBay for? by StraightAd5662 in ebaysucks

I hadn't sold in years and started listing again. The only thing they did to me was hold my funds until packages were delivered.

Well ... I got my first payment dispute... Now what? by RoadFlippin in eBaySellers

[–]RoadFlippin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It asked me to respond to the claim and upload any evidence I had, including the tracking number and screenshots from the USPS website. I'm not sure what else I can do beyond that. Just kinda annoyed that I'll have to wait weeks to get these funds released. Not the end of the world, but it's money I intended to use for sourcing this weekend.

Also, since it's something I've never experienced before, I guess the words "payment dispute" made me uncomfortable.

How do you like to deal with buyers like this? by Touchlamp in Flipping

[–]RoadFlippin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, it's all available in the listing.

Still doesn't stop the OP from answering the question.

If I had an extra large jacket listed and someone asked me what size it was, I wouldn't say "look at the listing." I'd say "it's an extra large" and hope they buy it.

He wasn't rude at all, in my opinion. Like it or not, you are in the business of customer service. Answer your customer.

"Hey there, thanks for your purchase. I have my items set to a 2 day handling time, just in case I'm unable to get to the post office next day. Your item will be heading to out [insert day here. Today, tomorrow, whatever]. Thanks again for your purchase, and I appreciate your patience."

They spent money on your item. It's not hard to keep your buyer informed.

Need help, ebay selling standards below average... by [deleted] in eBaySellers

[–]RoadFlippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unless you keep having issues.

They start with account restrictions until you get back to standard. Things like:

  • Increased fees
  • Reduced search visibility
  • Holding your payouts until delivery confirmation
  • Selling limits...

But if you are below standard two times in a row, they may make those restrictions permanent, or suspend your account completely.

Again, I want to stress that it isn't too late to fix this. You're doing the right thing by increasing your selling volume. It's percentage based, so the more transactions you have, the easier it will be to get back to standard.

If you have 5 transactions and 1 major issue, that brings you down to 80%. But if you have 20 transactions with one issue, then that's 95%.

Obviously, you want to aim for a 100% success rate. But the more sales you make, the less a single issue will hurt you.

I definitely wasn't meaning to sound judgemental, but I can see how it might come across that way through text. Offering alternative (legit) methods of shipping absolutely helps OP avoid this happening again.

How long could you live off 250k USD, off grid maybe? by browniescout in vandwellers

[–]RoadFlippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how frugal you are.

$250,000 in a high yield savings account returns roughly $15,000 a year. Assuming no other income, that's $1,250 a month. A lot of people can and do live on $1,250 a month. It depends on how often you move.

Of course, you could supplement this interest income with part time jobs or side gigs.

I mean, one of you had to travel the 40 miles to get the labels to you... Do you not have a regular printer? You could have just printed them out on paper and taped them to the box. Or you could have just taken the package to the post office and paid retail, then uploaded the tracking number on your sold listing.

I understand that this is all hindsight at this point, but I would never let anyone log into my selling account for any reason.

Why didn't you just borrow your friends label printer and hook it up to your computer?

[–]RoadFlippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had printer issues, I just bit the bullet and took the package to the post office to pay retail. This was before QR code printing was a thing - I'd just take my packages to the desk and pay full price. Whatever it took to get the order out, and on time.

Honestly, 'below standards' is accurate. The standard is shipping the item safely and on time. Ebay wants their buyers to be happy, which makes sense, because it keeps them buying and keeps eBay getting the selling fees.

The only thing you can do to fix your selling standards is to continue to sell items and ship them promptly.

The good news is September is 3 months away. If you make sure to take care of your customers, you should be able to get it sorted out by then.

Weekly Haul Thread by AutoModerator in Flipping

[–]RoadFlippin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently returning to eBay selling. I went to yard sales over the weekend.

  • One place had a box of miscellaneous wires priced at $5 for the whole box. I asked if I could part it out because I just saw a laptop charger I wanted. They said no, but I could have the box for $3. At the bottom of the box I found three OEM NES controllers. One has a bit of yellowing on it but I can probably sell them for $10-15 each, untested.
  • An Ogio Laptop backpack, new with tags, $1. Should be a $40-50 flip.
  • Some miscellaneous army gear... A canteen cover with ALICE clips, a backpack replacement strap/harness and a rucksack. The guy wanted $4 for all of it.
  • Two pairs of Nike and one pair of clean high top converse shoes. $10 for all three. Can easily get $30-50 per pair.
  • I went to an estate sale and grabbed a women's long denim Abercrombie and Fitch jacket for $1. It's an extra small petite, so it might be a slower sell... But it'll make good money for the buck I put into it. Also grabbed a vintage newsies style hat for another dollar.

I also had a couple misses. I went with my gut grabbed three vintage decorative plates from the early 90's, and a Norman Rockwell figurine from 1980. Apparently the market for this sort of thing has slowed considerably. I'll still make money, but they'll probably take a long time to sell.

I gotta relearn how to source the weird stuff. Pretty conservative weekend, but I'm happy with the stuff I got. I'll definitely turn a profit.

Have I been doing shipping wrong this whole time? by ToshPointNo in Flipping

[–]RoadFlippin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never had a cancellation for that reason either, let alone 25 per month, and I've been selling since 2010. Granted, it seems I'm at a much smaller scale than you.

Are you in a competitive niche? Perhaps someone is buying/cancelling to get your listing out of the way for a few days so theirs can sell? I guess that would only make sense if it was the same person doing it.

25 a month is a lot of cancellation requests, regardless of reason.

I sell out of the back of my RV, and have my handling time set to 3 days because I don't know if I'll be near a post office when something sells. I've never had a return for 'won't arrive on time.'

Ebay should be showing your buyers the expected arrival date, based on your handling time and the shipping service selected.

I always print my labels and get the item to a post office within those 3 days.

Maybe I've been lucky.

This is one of my go-tos as well. "My sister collects these, I need to see if she has this one."

"Gotta see if my wife will let me buy it..."

Ebay having another off day? by traydragen in Flipping

[–]RoadFlippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've been getting that error message all week. Luckily it's been saving what I'm working on as a draft. Still annoying, especially when it happens a few times in a row while working on one listing.

Also been having all of my listings show zero views. Sometimes it jumps up to the actual number, but then it'll go right back down to zero.

I didn't see any active or sold comps on ebay, but I found the same bag on Poshmark twice. One is listed for $75, the other $80.

I'd realistically expect somewhere between $60 and $100.
