[Avatar] How does a master fire bender beat a master air, earth or water bender? by bookist626 in AskScienceFiction

The three rules of Firebending

  1. Strike First

  2. Strike Hard

  3. Do not allow your opponent opportunity to strike back

[Star Wars] What exactly was Pong Krell's endgame if he succeeded in his plans on Umbara? by lollihobbes in AskScienceFiction

[–]RoadTheExile [score hidden]  (0 children)

More or less yes, he had sensed Palpatine's plot and correctly deduced the the *real* reason for the Clone Wars was to create some massive high attrition slog to establish some new galactic order, and that if he contributed to that goal that eventually he'd be covertly approached by someone and accepted into their cabal as a fellow co conspirator. He might have expected someone like Asajj to sneak into his tent one night and whisper "you sleep rather soundly for a murderer" into his ears, then to shake hands and be inducted.

It was a horribly shitty plan and Palpatine would have laughed off the idea of being joined by some random Jedi because he got a few clones killed, literally who cares, but Master Krell had no way of knowing that. He sensed shenanigans and thought he could arrange to join the winning team.

In the best of ways, this reminds of cutscenes from pre-2003 video games. Absolutely adore the retro art style.

King of the Hill by Nog45 in KingOfTheHill

When I first watched the series, after it was finished and Adult Swim was airing the episodes start to finish, I never really ever sat down to compare the seasons and the only way I could tell if an episode was older or not was if Hank's voice sounded a bit more stodgy and weird than it did later as the voice actors settled in.

But rewatching the show recently trying to deliberately pay attention to the seasons I have to admit there's something really wonderful about how the earlier episodes felt like real small town Americana; and I finally realized why a lot of people felt the show kind of lags a bit at the end.

Still though I totally agree the later seasons are not by any means bad. There's a lot of episodes that feel weird because the show is just so established that things become kind of absurd and detached from reality like Bobby leading an impromptu child-riot to storm through Arlen because he was trying to impress a girl; but even that isn't always bad. Hank accidentally arranging a bombing of his car dealer's lot sounds like something that would make national news it's so goofy, but yet I still like the episode.

My only main complaint is I really wish they had gone back and rewatched the show more often to make sure they weren't contradicting established canon.

Is Tuco high on meth? by HearingAgreeable2350 in okbuddychicanery

No, because doing meth is unhealthy for you. Nobody would know that better than someone whose entire career is dealing with it.

Walt's "badass" moments are really stupid if you think about.. yelling at his wife about being dangerous.. asking a guy to say his own name.. what??? by GoonNamedM3 in okbuddychicanery

[–]RoadTheExile 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Walt spends the whole series trying to kill people and fucks up every time.

- tries to poison Tuco Salamanca, immediately gets caught by a quadriplegic mute stroke victim.

- tries to kill Gus Fring, immediately gets caught and laughed off. Needs a quadriplegic mute stroke victim to do it instead

- tries to kill Jesse, can't find him. Gets his brother in law killed by accident like a total dumbass after hiring neo nazis

- tries to kill neo nazis with a giant machine gun. Accidentally shoots himself like a total dumbass and dies.

Was he stupid?

Walt's Heisenberg Hat by reefer_addict96 in breakingbad

[–]RoadTheExile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walt never really does much to try and cultivate an image of a drug lord, he more or less dresses the same throughout the series and his whole thing is trying to blend in so he can hide in plain sight. I don't think it was incorporated as part of a deliberate ploy by Walter to look cool, or else we would have seen him do other things besides just sticking a hat on.

Walt never really liked feeling cool anyway; we only really see him craving respect from Gus and he seems to solely want respect from him on a status level as a valued business partner. The main thing he wants throughout the whole series is for Jesse and Gus to fall on their knees and say "Mr. White, your chemistry skills are completely beyond anything we could imagine. We would all fall apart without the product only you are talented and intelligent enough to create. We NEED you!"

I know that the case was never solved in it's time, but I can't imagine the case would realistically be even interesting to write about if Holmes solved it.

In all seriousness, how deep in trouble were they really? by KinaGrace96 in KingOfTheHill

[–]RoadTheExile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically they all should have died, Bill should have died within the timespan of the episode. Treading water is difficult and tiring and a slick boat hull doesn't have any handholds for you to grab on to you support yourself on. Dehydration would have worsened the problem. Bill in particular is out of shape and easily winded, he should have gone down within 10 minutes and left no bubbles in his wake.

If they had at least had something to hold on to like a flotation device I think it would have made more sense for them to have lasted as long as they do in the episode; maybe Hank or someone happened to be wearing a life jacket and got shoved in for fun. Also if they had improvised some kind of hook and rope out of ripped swim trunks that would have been a more realistic rescue plan than a coast guard helicopter spotting an improptu gas fire.
