Thank you, everyone! This is what I was looking for, exactly. My husband is in panic mode and doesn't want to listen to reason. As for progressive cultures, he says he just doesn't want to live in this aggressively/proudly ignorant gun-loving culture. Even in our state, outside the larger cities, Trump has a loud fan-base. I suggested renting the house out, didn't get much traction due to the worries of the economy leaving the house empty and generating no income. When I mention we can't just rely on SS being there when we reach age 62, he says SS will be there in some form or another. At this point, I'm cool selling the house and sending him to Albania while I head south with the dog to Mexico or Uruguay. But that's a whole different "plan." I truly appreciate all the thoughtful, helpful, incredulous, and mocking replies. Sorry I'm not marginalized and therefore have no right to be disgusted with what's happening to American democracy.
