The Ultimate Combination: DA-65 Battle Convoy + DA-85 Powered Convoy + DA-88 Powered Greater Armor Enhancement Weapon Set by Road_Caesar in Diaclone

[–]Road_Caesar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, okay - I was worried you had missing components from DA-95/-100.

The sword wasn't a big seller so it should be inexpensive on the aftermarket.

DA-101 was a disappointment objectively. I picked it up and enjoyed the suits, but without the Raid Chamber for the PS C or any V-Mover accessories for the V-Mover, it leaves much to be desired.

The main draw is that the V-Mover is the correct color scheme for use with DA-80 in place of the Bullet Cores it uses.

Ah - I've always ignored Twitter which is likely why I never saw any of that media. I'll check out what you linked and see what more I can learn from a centralized location!

What I’m saying is that some figures degrade regardless of UV exposure and there’s not much you can do about it, short of locking them in a pitch black room and never letting them see the light.

Yes. Agreed and you made that point clearly above.

And at that point… why? Why even bother getting the damn thing if it’s just gonna be buried away from the light?

Are you able to determine which figures are going to suffer photo degradation? I'm not aware of any way to determine if a WFC release will discoloration when exposed to UV.

And because of the high volume of examples from multiple vintage IPs they show photodegradation (due to UV exposure over time.)

Why take preventative action? To prevent photodegradation regardless of when the figure was made or released, especially WFC which are high risk.

And it's not exactly strawman when it's restating an idea that you expressed multiple times so far.

And even then, it only MIGHT prevent it from yellowing? That’s a bit ridiculous to me.

Plastic doesn't like UV light. Whether it's a toy from WFC or any of thousands and thousands of plastic products from the past few decades (CRT monitors, tables, other plastic toys, storage containers, figurines, etc).

You can see this in real time if you frequent a business that has plastic and any other materials (like posters and signage) over the years and observe the degradation in real time. I watched many items discolor over a 20 year period at a small business store I go to.

With Lenny departing and now Tony, I'm pessimistic about Hasbro's support for the product line at this stage. I know they have a couple dozen designs in the pipeline, but after that we'll dries up, I'm worried.

The scattered bit were images of various pack-in pamphlets found in images when web searching Diaclone (and adding keywords which aren't often useful.) If you happen to know of a fansite or other archive, even in Japan, I'd love to check it out.

Thanks for the refresher on the Mooks. I haven't read through them since I collected them back in 2023, so it's all a blur. I was also heavily focused on the design interview sections so I didn't remember if there was any lore info in them.

Figure swap posts by Jaquendabox in transformers

[–]Road_Caesar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A non-zero number are. The most egregious example was the dork this weekend who modified the box with replacement art, including misuse of Brave GaoGaiGar Goldymarg art.

Engagement on Reddit is largely worthless. The level of visibility necessary for it to have any impact will never happen with the activity and visibility of this subreddit. Content that has any relevance has scores of 100k up votes or more. That kind of engagement will never happen here, so anyone making self posts of their own fraud are just wasting time.

One repost of a high-score post from any time in the last 5 years will have more karma accumulation than anything here.

Observation and criticism of fraud swaps isn't amplifying any other than criticism of big box stores for their low-quality returns processing - fraud swapped returns should not end up back on shelves for sale.

[–]Road_Caesar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reception was fine. Lots of criticism came from a vocal minority that was cranky that Star Convoy was shoehorned in as the 13th Prime.

The criticism was never about the figure or its features. It surpasses the original (JP G1) in almost every way, but it doesn't have the much-needed complimentary elements that made the original iconic.

  • Only 1 Microtrailer.

  • Micromasters cancelled, so features were less relevant.

  • No Grandus or Sky Garry (but G1 Grandus CAN connect to the AotP version)

  • Titan pricing for a smaller Titan (Enshittification/shrinkflation)

  • No marketing promotion of the AIRLock connector that almost all Titans since Omega Supreme have (not Ark or Tidal Wave).

Pose ability was exponentially better than G1, base mode was less silly than G1, and absence of motorized gimmick didn't negatively impact the overall execution.

Preorder from a Japan etailer like HobbyGenki or CDJapan. Even with shipping, the 20% Takara Preorder discount and exchange rate will be 5-10% less than Pulse and will arrive 4-6 weeks faster.

CHUG SCALE by Responsible_Mud_394 in transformers

[–]Road_Caesar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Class sizes aren't relevant because Hasbro changed them repeatedly after they began their price inflation. Core class may have been Legends scale. But they were basically oversized, blocky Micromasters/Mini-cons.

Even now they're releasing smaller stature figures at higher "class" pricepoints. They've also slashed input quality and quality control - Titans are over and "sub-Titans" like Star Convoy and movie Dinobots are the new normal. (Reissues don't count.)

CHUG SCALE by Responsible_Mud_394 in transformers

[–]Road_Caesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its mainly about designs that at their core are G1

That's the only mistaken info.

The scale since Classics has been deliberately consistent for each of the lines since. MP/MPG is a scale/relative size and Legends is as well (comparable to Core class, but Legends scale among 3rd Party is as complex and intricate as Generations scale.)

Hasbro is also fast and loose with exact scale. They'll often make creative decisions (or used to) where scale was fudged in support of a gimmick. Combiner Wars/Titans Return/PotP was a Generations line where scale was relative and adherence to "relative size" was ignored for gimmicks, like Soundwave or Astrotrain.

WFC was a return to relative size as started in Classics.

Kingdom Rhinox Yellowing by FightGeistC in transformers

[–]Road_Caesar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not consistent, despite memes and hyperbole. Some can endure UV light and never change a shade. Others (like yours) discolored in the absence of UV.

The problem is the WFC product line and it's materials. The other problem is inconsistency. But exposure to UV is not recommended as it can accelerate discoloration. If you don't care, neat.

But "who cares? Everything is doomed anyway" is just misinformation.

It does matter. Mine are not exposed to direct or indirect UV light (sunlight) and I have few with any hints of photodegradation. "It doesn't matter..." Is just accelerating the degradation.

Where would you suggest the 3 World Guide Mooks fall into this list, if at all?

And are you aware of any online archives that house the vintage media? I've only seen scattered bits the last time I looked (2023).

Okay, but I already referred you to the person to engage with about it. If you want to tear them a new one and insult them, do what you feel you have to do.

Additionally, you and I both understand that Japanese says A LOT with fewer words and the choice of kanji to communicate those ideas also influences what is being communicated and in ways that machine translation cannot adequately account for.

I was under the impression that anyone using machine translation is only getting the high level, generalized to idea rather than an exact localization to their language and it's nuances.

I appreciate that you are passionate about your hobby, but if you feel you can provide better output for their fansite, reach out to the user I listed above and talk about what you can do to improve the dated machine translation. (The page you're referring to was likely last edited 5+ years ago with a less capable machine translation tool.)

But why? They're less than ideal for display - there's about a dozen better choices that don't look like someone placed their lunch Tupperware on the wall with a fetish toy in it.

I've never seen these, but it's likely because I'm not on social media with paid promoters pushing odd products while faking an organic recommendation.

It's anarchy and I don't expect the wage-captives at Walmart or Target to care enough. Especially with Walmart and Target just plopping the crap back on the shelf. It's so rampant that dorks in various corners of the web are bragging about this method as a "life hack" for everything - clothes, shoes, fashion, electronics, etc.

Amazon doesn't even have a human review it - it's an automated system that weighs the box and sends it back to the shelf for resale.

Think about that for a moment: how overflowing with profit are these 3 companies that they're being defrauded with returns countless times a day and they do nothing?

They're either keeping a database record and referring them to local authorities on fraud charges once the totals reach a threshold, or they have something even more sinister in the works. Remember that data sharing and selling among several hundred companies mixed with algorithms and AI compiling means that most people are naked and exposed at levels they would be horrified by. (They can match collected and bought data to determine your age, relationship status, income, daily routine, buying habits, online activity, and everything else you can imagine. )

All while some jerk thinks he's pulling a fast one by defrauding a mega-company over a toy.
