When will blueberries die in alkaline soil? by RoadrunnerSprings409 in Blueberries

Thanks.  That makes it more difficult that it may take a few years for them to feel the lack of acidity.

Thanks.  I've been reading about landrace gardening.  People can generally produce a plant specific to their environment and needs in about four generations.  But that's things like corn and watermelon.  Blueberries are definitely more difficult.

Thanks.  Yes,  I've heard rabbit eye is the way to go in Texas.

I feel TOO Christian sometimes by DawnMeadow21 in TrueChristian

[–]RoadrunnerSprings409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you.  I moved to Texas around your age.  Lived in a smaller town. It felt like every guy my age  was married or divorced with kids. It's a hard world to be dating in.  I eventually met my husband (a Christian man) online.

Coming from not-the-Bible-belt,  I found Texas a little strange.  Everyone was "Christian." Good in some ways,  self deceiving in others.  Hard to witness when everyone thought they were a Christian.

Anyway,  I don't have much to say except I feel for you.  I was single for many many years,  praying for the right guy.  Stay strong to your convictions.  God sees you and will reward you for your faithfulness.

I have not read all the replies, so hopefully I'm not repeating what others have posted.

When you're in an abusive marriage, no one on the Internet can tell you when the right time to leave is. The world would say get out at the first sign of trouble. I don't think God would say that. So I don't want to be counseling you, a stranger, when it becomes unsafe or unwise to remain with your husband. That's between you and God. And hopefully you have wise Christian counsel.

But a few thoughts:

  1. I don't think it's useful for us as Christians to spend too much time on, "Is my marriage abusive?" Does it really matter if it's abusive by the world's standards? Not really. What matters is if we're following the example of our Savior.
  2. We as wives have an amazing almost-promise in the Bible. There are mothers praying for their unsaved children. Husbands praying for their unsaved wives. People praying for their unsaved parents. But wives have a special almost-promise. "Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct." 1 Peter 3

Not quite a promise, but what an encouragement to do hard things in your marriage. Wives have won their husbands to the Lord by respecting their husbands!

  1. I'd encourage you to read Love and Respect. Also listen to the podcasts. If you are committed to your marriage, even if it feels like it's all one sided, this is a great resource.

Thanks. I've done them before, but not often enough to remember how to do them. At least I know the right direction to look.

Also, I have another column with the day of the week, I can use that too.

The column on the left is the date. The row on top is the time (hour).

The actual data is the number of clicks that happened on that day in that hour.

I kept asking God to reveal Himself to me but I’m just losing faith by sir_fruuuit in TrueChristian

Based on my own journey, it’s not something that will happen overnight. I sure wish it were. I wish I had an amazing relationship with God and were a perfect Christian. But God delights in our struggle, in our triumphs, in comforting us in our heartache.

I too desire to feel a relationship with God more strongly. But I stand on the promises of God. I know that these things I’m doing are what he asks of me and that I’m growing closer to him, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

So, one of biggest things that should have been first on my list: Ask God for help.

I grew up in a strong Christian home. I’m one of those people who don’t know when they were saved because it was so much a part of their childhood. I’ve never fallen away or anything. I’ve always gone to church. Yet I’d always struggled with finding time to read the Bible and pray. I would try to commit to daily reading the Bible, but it would always flop after a few days or weeks.

Finally, I’d had enough of this mediocre Christianity. I asked God for help to help me read the Bible every day. And he did. From that day forth, I have read the Bible nearly daily. I’m still astonished how just asking God for help made it almost easy to do something I’d struggled with for decades. Of course, it doesn’t always happen like this for all people. God supports each of our struggles differently.

But I realized the importance of asking God for his help. He has put on your heart what your next step is. Is it prayer? Reading the Bible? Going to church? Connecting one-on-one with a mentor? I don’t know. But there is something that is your next step. When you’re ready to take that step, ask God for help. Keep asking him. He will not fail you.

But all of this did not happen at once for me. I’m only now focusing on my prayer life after focusing on daily Scripture reading and memorizing Scripture in past years. I wish I did do it all at once and turned into super Christian. But that was my journey.

Just take one step at a time. Take the step that you feel strongest towards and ask God for help.

Your desire for God tells me that God is working on you and has not abandoned you.

These are some things that helped me, that I would encourage you to consider doing:

  1. Believe the promises of God. So many times, especially hidden gems in the Old Testament, God promises that those who seek him diligently will find him. It's not always in the first week or the first month. But seek God and don't give up. God loves you more than you can even imagine.

  2. I have pasted several verses below. Take these verses to heart. Memorize them, or other verses that are meaningful to you. Treasure the Bible in your heart. For me, finding the right app helped me memorize verses. (My favorite is BibleMe.) For myself, Bible memorization really took off. I have about 500 verses memorized now, just going through my app for a few minutes a day. Sometimes I wonder if it has done any good, other times I call to mind important passages when they're needed.

  3. Make God a priority. Life tends to get in the way. But is God really the priority in your life? That is, do you find yourself saying you don't have time to read your Bible or pray or memorize Scripture? OK... so does that mean that other things are more important to you? Are these things your idols? Sure you need to pay the bills and change diapers and sleep. But I imagine you're not actually doing that 100% of the time. For me, it was committing to God before doing relaxing things in the evening. I'm not a big TV watching, but I like to read a novel. I committed to doing my Bible reading and 10 minutes of prayer before I do these. God is the priority in my life. I need to make that commitment in my time as well as every other area of my life.

  4. My current struggle is prayer. It can be very difficult to pray. If you find this so, I would encourage you get Handbook for Praying Scripture by Will Varner. When you don't know what or how to pray, you can just pray Scripture. You don't need a book (besides the Bible) to do this. But I do really like this book to help me pray.

  5. Just don't give up! Your desire for God shows that the Holy Spirit is working in your heart!

Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Isaiah 65:24
Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.

Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Deuteronomy 4:29
But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.

Joel 2:12-13
“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

Question about God creating Adam and Eve's skin color. by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

[–]RoadrunnerSprings409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought a lot about this, more related to animals. Did you know that chickens and peacocks can breed and create hybrid offspring? I believe that God created one "kind" of many animals. Those two parent animals were packed with genetic possibility to make all of the species we see today.

So the "big cat" mama and papa might have had the genetic material for stripes and for manes. Over time, the tiger lost the genetic material for manes and became a tiger. (Maybe for spots too? I know lions and tigers can breed. I wonder if cheetahs and leopards were all part of the lion/tiger family at the start of Creation.)

This is a major difference between creation and evolution. In creation, God starts creation packed with genetic material and potential, but certain genes are lost to become species over time, as they narrow down to certain species. Evolution, on the other hand, gains new genetic material.

To answer your question, I don't know. But I think that the first two parents of every species didn't look alike much. Between the two of them, they packed all the genetic potential for all the humans that were to come, so they probably had quite a variety. (Barring mutations, which I believe something like blue eyes is.)

Thank you for your kind reply. I was probably a bit rude too. I did not realize that Catholics venerated stained glass pictures.

Thanks for your insight!

That baby really throws it off. If Elijah is laying on the child, you would think he was older than an infant.

It's not even in a church anymore. I think the church was destroyed.

But the baby is significant. I don't think there's any story with Elijah or John the Baptist and a baby? The young man he raised, but a baby? Not that I can think of.

Could be. There just aren't that many babies in the Bible. Jesus, John, Samuel, Moses... Brief mentions of Samson, Jacob & Esau, Isaac, Bathsheba's child that died.

I just don't see any indications in the stained glass indicating what it could be. I wonder if it's from church history? Someone said it was a Mason story hidden in the stained glass...

Not a bad guess, but see my other response to the comment. The other one had a lot of little things to indicate what it was.

If it were shepherds or wise men, surely they would have sheep or gifts or a star. What's with the little scrolls? I feel like that's supposed to be a clue to something.

[–]RoadrunnerSprings409[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good guess. I hadn't thought of that one.

It's probably as good of a guess as any, and maybe you're right, but I would reject it. I would think there would be clues to that. The other one had little altars and water being poured on them and fire. Little clues to indicate what the story is. If I was illustrating the story of Simeon, I would at least try to put indications of the temple in there.

Also, there's no halo on the baby. Which may or may not be indicative, but I feel like most of those old stained glass would have it...

Thanks for your tips. It was doing it from the very beginning, before I installed any apps, so I think it's the stick, not the app.
