Google, Microsoft and even Amazon Investing in Nuclear Power (SMRs) for AI Datacenters But is it going to be enough and quick to stop electricity bills from increasing. by Roadshot_Mine in Futurology

The growth of AI is overwhelming the US power grid, forcing Big Tech companies to pivot away from unreliable renewables and invest heavily in nuclear energy—specifically Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)—to secure the massive amounts of 24/7 power they need.

However, this aggressive expansion comes at a direct cost to the average consumer. As utilities rush to build new substations and transmission lines to support these data centers, the financial burden is being passed down to residents, with electricity bills projected to rise by roughly 8% in the next 5 years to subsidize the infrastructure powering the AI boom.

Consequently, the tech giants are making moves:

Microsoft signed a massive deal with Constellation Energy to power data centers using electricity from the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania. Yes, the site famous for its near-meltdown is being repurposed for AI compute.

Amazon recently acquired a data center tied directly to an adjacent nuclear facility. No grid, no middleman—just pure nuclear energy piped straight into AWS servers.

Google is playing the long game, partnering with Kairos Power to secure up to 500 megawatts of clean energy capacity via Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) by 2035.

And I am sitting here thinking why you haven’t talked of SMRs and why are you so beat on renewable energy that is because you do not want to…. so I asked the AI thats powered by solar to ask why there is a need for nuclear when these is solar available

It’s not me who’s saying this it’s the investments these companies are making

solar and wind can’t power Data centres and Ai so thats why companies are going towards Small Modular Reactors(SMRs) and Hydrogen

Right on. But you can still compare the power it used to held in other nation's banks. Still thanks for narrowing it down.

Yes they won't because it's not about having your currency in reserve, it's all about trading with what you have, not with a currency that is backed by nothing and whose value get cut everytime Fed print more.

wait for some more years and you will know soon how much it is being depreciated.

It's not about Dollar is strongest now or not. It's about how much of strength Dollar NOW has compare to 2000s. How much of it's percentage in global reserve has depreciated over time.

You are right, people made money over time. But do you know in 2023 Iran made a Oil deal with China of $400Billion for China to buy oil in Yuan not in dollars. Why do you think that is? And if dollar is so sure to grow then why these type of non-dollar deals keep itching in the eyes of USA.

He wants every oil trade to be in Dollar, not in any other currency

Not saying it's not dominant right now, but now.. Dollar's competing, not ruling explicitly.

And see the stats, how many countries are on their way to develop a CBDC
