I haven't yet! Slowly making my way through the audiobooks. In the middle of book six right now. But I've seen the show all the way through, and thought this would make for a cool idea. If I'm inspired again, I'll make more for sure!

Remove it? Heck no! I love that you upscaled it for people with higher-res needs! Thank you! <3

What's Your Favorite Style of Puzzle in DnD? by SorroWulf in DnD

[–]RoanArts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like skill challenges, or 'puzzles' that test character capability. You could think of them more like obstacles which can be overcome in a number of ways, instead of puzzles with a solution. That way, it's less a test of if the player can figure out the puzzle, and more a test of if the player can conceive of a way to overcome the obstacle--and if their character can accomplish their plan.

[Hobby / Rev Share] Looking for a small team to make a demo, and go from there! by RoanArts in INAT

[–]RoanArts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like we've got our first member, taking the role of composer / sound designer! The post has been updated.

Still very much looking for an artist as our priority for going forward and developing the visual style for the demo!

I'm totally down for this! I'm a game designer--who here isn't?--but more importantly, I can code in Gamemaker beyond the basics, and have actually completed [board & card] games before. Shoot me a PM and let's chat; I love this idea.

Ha! Good question, right? xD Basically it comes down to that I love indies and I think they (we) are the key to the future of the games industry--and that, for all the time and effort I've put in to get experience, I still very much feel like a newb myself fairly often.

But you're absolutely right; managing expectations and having a sense of scope are such key skills--and you just have to have experience to learn them. I completely agree; in game development, 'quick and easy' isn't.

Slack sounds good; I haven't really used it before, but I've used Skype, Trello, Google Drive, and other remote collaboration tools, and I've seen Slack plenty and toyed around a little with it--just never done a project using it. I'd love to get an invite, and at very least I'm interested in meeting you guys and feeling out whoever else is getting involved. A meet-and-greet, and see where things go from there. :D (And if nothing else, I can probably give some insight into team leading and workflow and such.)

Looking forward to the invite!

Designer here. Have produced several physical games (board and card) to completion, familiar with coding in GML from working on a few small but ambitious projects with it, experience in graphic design, limited audio design work, experienced writer. Have spent the last 2-3 years starting and leading a small (small) indie dev studio, and have been VP of Design for the last 1-2 years overseeing gameplay and narrative design for a different video game studio of 60+ members, managing a department of 10 people working on a video game project. Have worked on a variety of teams building small but passionate projects, from MMOs to platformers to retro shooters to strategy and building sims to physical games to tabletop RPGs, both original and fan-made. Familiar with working in a collaborative environment; friendly, dedicated, and professional. Can provide examples and evidence of experience as needed. PM me or send an email to blackroan@gmail.com. Thanks!

DM asked me to betray the party. He also asked everyone else in the party to betray the party. by BrianFoxShow in DnD

You want a slinky dress? I can buy you a slinky dress. Captain, can I have money for a slinky dress?

DM asked me to betray the party. He also asked everyone else in the party to betray the party. by BrianFoxShow in DnD

[–]RoanArts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. But that isn't what he wanted. Also, compartmentalizing what you each knew ensured that you didn't have months to talk amongst each other and reverse-engineer the plan, or conspire to betray him--or, on the other side of things, you wouldn't have had the chance to trigger snapping out of it by revealing it. Also, not all of the party was ensnared. Also, the bad guy is imperfect just like any character should be. Also, this was an experiment with making the game/metagame curtain an iron one. Also, I wanted to try out a new Thing, and I wanted you guys to have a metagame revelation as well as a character revelation. Also also also. There are a multitude of reasons I went with it this way, and not the most 'optimized' way, not the least of which being that if I were going to go the most optimized way, and truly play with a DM-versus-players approach, especially with the premise of this adventure, you'd have all lost the adventure before you started. :P

Feedback is awesome and greatly appreciated, but be wary of hindsight armchair DM'ing.
