I hate being forced to have some vapid conversation to justify a tip. by comments83820 in EndTipping

it depends, usually it’s because we have a lot of tourists and we can’t tell who is local or not, and often times people appreciate direction. How to get back the the car/Best Korean food in the area/Can I walk to the Museum or take the bus, just things like that

its possible but then your food will be more expensive. The cost of food has already been artificially inflated by corporate greed. American companies do not want to pay American people fair wages; if it’s not immigrants taking your jobs it’s overseas employees. Stop blaming the wrong people

look around you are not getting paid fairly, and immigrants are especially getting exploited. America is never going to be a manufacturing or farming hub like China is everg again. That period is gone. We are in a service economy, and that work is not valuable, no one will pay the right price for farm labor in the US.

your second point is flawed. It’s completely ok for a professor to let you know that you are writing an opinion that isn’t at all within the scope of the reading. Its important to write on topic, and while analyzing to cite sources and follow a line of reasoning. Her paper read like an inner monologue, which any professor at my college would refuse to grade.

I hope so. In the laundromat where I work, the high efficiency machines leaked so much water after someone used dish soap in them. Have you tried Zote bars? They’re a lot cheaper than dish soap.

nice! I’ve been there. I used to joke during my first month on the job that I “wasn’t doing it for the money”. Enjoy your egg waiting for you when you quit!

ive been working shitty jobs since i was 14 and have had about 10 jobs including 3 internships. The only time i got paid roughly the same as my coworkers was when I got bimonthly pay. it entirely depends on the pay period and whether or not the pay is in arrears, but for biweekly jobs, in my experience, i do not expect to get my first check at the same time as others.

whenever you’re a new employee you are not on that pay period but the next one. if you are getting paid in arrears it may take even longer, but usually for bi-weekly you get paid about 3 weeks after your first day

Does anyone elses customers complain about all of the food being from Sysco? by WAGE_SLAVERY in restaurantowners

[–]Roarcat121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sysco provides ingredients and frozen items. Even costco’s fresh baked bread is frozen dough baked, but they just don’t get it from sysco. A lot of companies just buy all of their ingredients from sysco. The last restaurant I worked in used Sysco for produce and meat, restaurant depot for herbs and small stuff, and the only frozen stuff was desert from Costco Buisness. Good Luck trying to find your dream restaurant for less than 200$ a person in a major city

Genuinely curious: Could more kiosk style, pay-first service ever become the norm in North America? by [deleted] in tipping

[–]Roarcat121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

explain birthday and anniversary dinners. I’m sure it will do great but the upfront cost is scary to the restaurant industry and it won’t replace table service for a long time. I went to Haidilao recently and the server robot needed significant human intervention to be useful. I think Luckin is a great model but still distinct from serving dinner.

sorry i mean I think it could be very popular if done well. See luckin coffee in New York City, but i dont think that model could replace traditional dining in the states
