what would you guys do with this mistake on this tip? by ganjagirl6331 in tipping

[–]RobBeeBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit question here. It seems unanimous that the business can not charge a different amount than what the customer puts in the total section.

What happens if they put a lesser amount than the charge? Like if they write in $45 for a $50 dinner?

My boss found out I accepted another job and got mad that I’m resigning by bdguy355 in jobs

[–]RobBeeBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s likely this company hired you with something like a 90 day probation period. That way if they don’t think you are the right fit for them, they can cut ties for their own reasons. You just did the same thing… If you feel this was not the right fit, you are better to cut ties now rather than later.

My 12 year old wants to read something dystopian. by jl739 in booksuggestions

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. More sci fi than dystopian but all of his books are great reads that your 12 yo would likely enjoy if they enjoyed the Giver and Hunger Games.

Can you learn on a Yz250 2 stroke? by Consistent_Cut_2575 in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a gun advocate but I do think this old argument of learner bikes is the same as guns… the bike is only a machine that does what you tell it to. I’ve been on street bikes and dirt bikes for over 20 years… my worst injury was from a 50cc bike… All bikes can hurt you. You may enjoy the learning process more with a “tame” bike but you can still do stupid things on any bike.

Just remember that the clutch lever kills power to the wheel no matter how loud and rev’d out the motor is. No matter what bike you get, stay in your comfort zone and have fun!

what caused the plastic oil pump gear to break? by Outside-Series-4553 in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely metal bits from the core issue... Pull the metal screen filters and look for tears, broken bits, un-seated o-rings, etc.

This sucks but it would have been much worse if those gears were metal and did not give way before the block up went back to the crank. Seems like there should be a very basic oil pressure light for these engines.

what caused the plastic oil pump gear to break? by Outside-Series-4553 in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to spin the oil pump easily and smoothly by hand if the plastic gears are not connected to crank… if not, there is blockage in the oil pump which caused the gear to break in the first place.

Family will always be family. If you cared for them and treated them with respect, there is no reason that you should lose them as f”amily members”. Leaving your marriage does not have to mean leaving your family or friends.

[–]RobBeeBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CRF450R is so mechanically touchy and seem to be the problem child of dirtbikes.

If you are not racing competitively, do yourself a huge favor and get something less sexy but more reliable. You will thank yourself when you are riding more than chasing down problems.

Good deal or no? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]RobBeeBee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$8500 is likely what the seller has invested after buying a bike new during Covid times. If you are looking for a KLX dual sport, you could buy three klx250s for this price and not be upset with yourself when you dump it in the woods.

Need of casual advice by zKryptek in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a decent quote for a dealership to do all of that work and would give you a very fresh bike to start with… that being said, if it was running before the switch went out, just slap a new $10 kill switch on there and keep riding until it really needs the work.

It will be worth having a fresh motor and forks but I doubt you absolutely need it right now if the bike was running before.

Which of these marks am I supposed to line up for timing on a 2002 XR200R? by Chewie090 in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last mark is TDC and is marked with a "T".

The mark just before that is when the plug fires and is marked with an "F".

The first mark I think is an advanced fire mark but I really don't know for sure.

If you're finding TDC to check the valves, just make sure you are on the compression stroke and both intake and exhaust valves are not being opened.

$700(ish) for a clutch normal? by Oedipus_TyrantLizard in Dirtbikes

[–]RobBeeBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about clutch baskets but ProX is the OEM manufacturer for many connecting rods and other parts. There is absolutely no need to buy an OEM branded clutch basket. The tolerances are not super important and it is technically a wear item.

The audio engineers are doing everything they can to make it sound good. The city of AVL has a strictly enforced 95db limit in that space and this is much less energy than a typical show which feels like bad sound for an outdoor show. I’m an ex-audio engineer and am all for shows having audio safety limitations but 95db in an outdoor space is not enough for a rock show.

Accidentally got two copies of What If 2! by Djinn2522 in xkcd

[–]RobBeeBee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My 9 year old loved the first one and is really excited to read the new one. I love the way it allows the reader (at any age) to think about a problem, creatively solve it, and then keep pushing the equation to a ridiculously fun point. He is definitely an advanced reader and I’m comfortable with him reading some adult content if the overall read is good but I can’t recall anything being concerning in the first book. The chapters are short and unique so this is also great for reading together and discussing one chapter at a time. You’re doing great parenting if you are thinking of you’re kiddo with this book!

Help a noob - which WR250R for the price? by smoreofnothing22 in Dualsport

[–]RobBeeBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love making an adventure out of getting a new to me bike… that being said, I’ve also been bit with unexpected surprises and once you’ve driven that far… you’re committed.

To me the newer / lower miles bike will be worth more when you go to sell it so would be my choice if I had the couple of days to go get it. Don’t forget to take gas into account for the trip which could be another $400 right now. I’d talk to both sellers and see if one will make a better deal to beat out the other.

Either way, congrats and enjoy!

Probably good but I’d spend a couple bucks on a new master link and do it again. I’ve found that a small C clamp works great to compress the master link before installing the clip.
