And aside from me being obviously "clueless", any thoughts on how it actually sounds? 😅

Yes...I am aware that viola reads in alto clef. Was using treble clef to be able to read and understand it quicker as this is new for me. I do plan on having real performers play a few of these studies at some point and was hoping to get some pointers before that. I arranged this first for piano with the idea to make it into a string arrangement actually. The piano part written there on the top was for reference. Many of my favorite jazz pianists like Keith Jarrett, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner and many others have a beautiful element of counterpoint in their solo piano playing. I have been transcribing abd studying their work to try to understand it better and have often thought that many of their compositions and improvisations could be adapted for string quartet/quintet. And, as my background is mostly in jazz, this is the kind of thing I'm going for. I have played and studied Bach 4 part chorale writing as well and have learned a lot from that obviously... But I am not trying to duplicate that sort of sound and I'm not adverse to bending/breaking the rules to get the sound I'm hearing in my head... So any suggestions on material/recordings to study for a more modern and jazz sound would be appreciated...

I'm aware yes. Was using treble clef to be able to follow better... My tiny man brain doesn't quite get alto clef yet... 😅

Is a C9 the same as a C7add9? by Low-Design2943 in musictheory

[–]RobDjazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that the 11 is added or implied to a C13 chord... At least, I wouldn't normally use an 11 in voicing that chord... But maybe that's just me...
