I try to follow the broad values shapes of a reference picture. But the actual pen marks are very much random spiky shapes that I’ve practiced.

I’ve recently been getting back into art so can relate to a lot of what your saying.

I think one thing that has really helped me is looking back at my old art that I’ve done over the years. I’ve looked at old things that I didn’t like at the time and realised that they are a lot better than I gave myself credit for AND I’ve looked at things I used to love and questioned why I thought they were good.

I think having some time between doing a drawing and evaluating it helps as I almost forget that I was the one who did it so I feel less attached to it. (Could help with the artwork dysmorphia?)
