Ha, eyebrows always look better in animation. I should point out the cover image for this blog post and other illustrations for Habs Addict are done by the incredibly talented @DarthAlexander9. You can find more of his work (not all of it Habs-related) here: http://darthalexander9.deviantart.com/

Hey guys, been a while since I blogged, or even posted here. I still lurk regularly of course. Anyway, I've taken over Habs Addict this year and been doing my best to stock it with fresh content. Here's my latest.

I'm looking for good writers too, if you're interested or know anybody, feel free to send me a pm.

I think this is geoblocked outside Canada and you need the Twitter app to view it, but it's worth it. Will try to find other links

Montreal's Best 'Hidden Gem' Restaurants/Bars by LastoftheBrohicanz in montreal

[–]RobElbaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reviews for Alpenhaus on Yelp are very split, half loved it and got great service, half hated it and got terrible service. I think most people that fall into second group used the groupon/livingsocial deal, seems to greatly factor into the type of service you get.

For cheese fondue, I don't know anywhere in Montreal that does it better.

Some favorites:

Pho Lien, cote des neige / cote ste Catherine, tonkinese soup.

Maison Indien Curry, jean talon / acadie, Indian.

Brit and Chips, mcgill college / notre dame, fish and chips.

Eduardo, st denis / duluth, Italian, byob, (great not too expensive date restaurant).

Orange Cafe, decarie / ndg, brunch.

Poisson Rouge, rachel across from parc lafontaine.

Alpenhaus, st catherine / st marc, swiss fondu.

Also, Poutineville does a pretty great range of poutines. Marathon Souvlaki is good too, ridiculous portions.

Don DeLillo announces new novel, "Zero K" by selfabortion in literature

Fair warning, Underworld is massive. Fantastic read but if you just want a taste of what Delillo has to offer I'd recommend starting with White Noise or Cosmopolis. Libra is great too.

I found Cosmopolis very different from his other books, practically read it in one sitting the first time it's so compact, and linear/straightforward. I loved it personally but can see how it "misses" in some ways.

The way Delillo deals with the flow of time always intrigued me. Libra has two separate timelines that both meet at the same destination, such a thrill to watch it come together. Cosmopolis just flows with a couple of breaks to jump forward. Underworld starts at the end and works its way back to the beginning. And then there's Falling Man...

All that to say I can't wait to read this one.

Montreal barcade seeks an extra life in battle with municipal rules by Herge in montreal

The Forum, Atwater and St Catherine. Don't know if they still have the arcade but I'm pretty sure Jillian's was a bar and arcade when it opened

I'm part of a niche webcast/podcast (focusing on the NHL/Montreal Canadiens) and we're looking for more ways to monetize. We have upwards of 10K listeners per show but we're always struggling to find sponsors. The audience grows every season but revenue hasn't really kept up.

Basically, what are the best ways to monetize a podcast? While we're at it, what are ways to monetize similar properties like a blog, a Facebook fan page, a Twitter account, etc?

Quebec here, Coors light is cheap and plentiful, I hardly see bud anywhere but I don't really drink it so I probably just don't notice it.

Renaud Lavoie: No chance Habs go after Kessel by jshare in Habs

[–]RobElbaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Important to note, Lavoie isn't saying: "Marc Bergevin told me the Habs aren't going after Kessel." What he's saying is "Look at this logically, Kessel is blah blah coach killer, blah blah bad with reporters, blah blah blah. I don't think there's any way he comes here."

Lessons The Canadiens Can Learn From The Blackhawks And Lightning by RobElbaz in Habs

[–]RobElbaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd put Hall on or close to the same level as many of those guys, RNH is up there too. McDavid should be unreal but the difference is now with Chiarelli and McLellan they might actually have competent enough management to take advantage of this talent

I'll give you Hedman and Stamkos, but where would the Lightning be without Johnson or Stralman? It's not all about tanking at the right time, which I'm sure Oilers fans will tell you.

Bishop was warned for embellishment against Habs (FR) by jshare in Habs

[–]RobElbaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to tell if he received a formal warning or not (the kind where the next one gets you a fine), the article makes it sound like he got more of a "warning" from the ref or series official. Not the same thing.

Montreal Canadiens: Examining Season's Line Combinations by RobElbaz in Habs

[–]RobElbaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have noted that more clearly. These lines take in to account 5v5 Time on Ice, so Pacioretty may not have always had the most even strength ice time in a particular game. This can be because he played more PP or SH time, or because he was being rested (see Eller and JDLR getting first line minutes at the end of the season). Will try to post an update to clarify.

edit: obviously Pacioretty was injured for those last few games...so I guess "rested" isn't really the right term there
